Hi, I have always watched starcraft since 2010. I don't watch as much anymore until recently when it came to my mind that I should try playing a new game for once. Starcraft popped into my head and I remembered all the youtube channels and livestreams I would watch ALL the time. when I first discovered Starcraft I didn't know what the game was about or how to play, didn't even know what was going on 90% of the time. Over a year passed and I learned the game from just watching replays commentated over by my favourite youtubers back in 2010-2011. My favourite youtubers were HDStarcraft, HuskeyStarcraft and of course the infamous Day9! So long story short, as I came to remember all these great memories of watching the game I decided that I should actually try playing for once now that I do have a computer that can run the game. I looked up "how to start playing starcraft 2" into youtube and came across a Day9's video. It was a Newbie Tuesday that explains exactly what I needed to hear.

(for those of you who are curious)
Link to video:

Day9 actually shows off TeamLiquid.net in the video in a very helpful manner.

I'm currently following Day9's advice from the video on how to enjoy starcraft and learn at the same time. Basically I wanted to make this post to show my appreciation towards Day9's hard work on his youtube for so many years! He explains everything in depth so well, anyone who doesn't know of starcraft can understand what he is explaining. The video is 4 and a half years old. Back then starcraft youtubers, even gaming youtubers in general barely even made money off their videos. To look at how much effort Day9 put into teaching and posting everyday for his fans about starcraft is amazing! I don't think there is any other youtuber I have seen make that much effort into their content. I never did watch Day9's daily post because I just liked watching the replays off of youtube for fun. Now because I came across this video I think I'm gonna devote a lot of time into learning starcraft on my own and from Day9's very old, but very useful daily posts. Ya I know they were posted in wings of liberty era, but I'm pretty sure its still some what useful especially for someone starting to play the game.

Also wanted to ask if someone would care to answer for me please. What happened to the pro player "Idra". Back in Wings of Liberty he was my favourite Zerg player to cheer on against, at the time, the unbeatable Koreans.

I did end going onto Twitch and finding some pro players that still play to this day which I am envious of to see them still grinding starcraft to be a top competitor.

Anyway just kind of wanted to share my new spark of interest of playing starcraft because of Day9's video I came across. It really brought me back to what I thought was the prime of starcraft 2, obviously I could be wrong, but that's just how it felt back then with the huge MLG events for starcraft. I am definitely going to start watching streams and replays again! I think there's some sort of world ladder now for starcraft? Sounds really exciting to watch and I can't wait to see what the future holds for me in Starcraft! :D

Thank you everyone if you took time to actually read the whole post <3 :D:D:D

Whilst Day 9 hasn't really made relevant content for SC2 other than the occasional random casting gig, he certainly did a lot to help the scene in the first three years of its being!

I guess one final thread to thank him for that work is appropriate ^^

I'm guessing by this reply that Day9 hasn't done a Daily post in a very long time. :/

I just looked into Huskey and HD and sadly found out they have retired for a very long time now as well :/ I'm just gonna rewatch all their videos and act as nothing even happened.

the 100th episode of the day9 daily is what got me into wanting to play Starcraft at a higher level. I remember in beta I kept getting placed into silver and I learned more from Day9 and Nonys stream to get me to diamond and eventually master league when it was created.

I too would like to Thank him for all the hard work he put into our community. I don't think he even posts on TL anymore haven't really seen him around.

Day[9] is not doing much nowaday, but well he made over 700 daylies or something, you can't question his commitment.

Nowadays, the guy taking over the role of "youtube starcraft teacher" is jakatak I believe, and I suppose many new (or returning) ones should pop up in the next months if LotV gets popular enough.

aside from this just tune in each time a korean pro is streaming, it can give headaches but it's really a good learning experience.

I remember watching Day9 and Sc2 back when top level play still seemed like magic to me, not that I am hot shit now, just a forever diamond player who can see what he needs to do, but cant seem to put the effort behind it to reach mastery. I don't think I will ever rekindle that level of interest or awe, but Day9 was/IS awesome regardless. And I bet his basic content is still useful for newbs today.

I'd say it's an exaggeration, surely for some, but certainly he wasn't the only one person who made that happen...

To think of it now, over 700 episodes of Starcraft related content was unbelievable amount of work put in. I still check his streams now and then because they can be hilarious!

All good things come to an end eventually, so did the dailies. Some of them still contain useful information about very basics of the game and more advanced stuff that is more obvious nowadays. If nothing else, daily #100 is motivational for sure.

Search up his Newbie Tuesdays for now and work your way going from 0-700 of his daily's. I'm going to be doing the exact same thing, just listening to and following the fun way to learn and play starcraft! :D

Day[9] was definitely one of the guys on the forefront to get as many people as possible into starcraft. It didn't just end there, he even put in the effort of breaking down the game piece by piece so the watchers and those who wanted to learn didn't only learn the how's but also the why's, which is equally important.

Unfortunately, he hasn't done a daily in.. dunno, a year? He's focused on Hearthstone mostly nowadays, one of the reasons being it doesn't take as much time to prepare for his next episode/show/stream. He's also working on "his" own rts game called Artillery ( https://www.artillery.com )

Haven't played sc2 in ages so I didn't know he stopped and focused on something else, so I was a little bit surprised myself, but I can see why he did it though.

The dailies I'd recommend you to watch are #100, #252, #257 and #261.
You look at people and you see puzzles. I see games. You? You're a game I'll win everytime.

He retired at the start of 2013, basically he was not realy good anymore and EG was getting tired of all his raging that were always getting them in trouble so they kick him of the team. He left Starcraft after that, he played a bit of Heroes of the Storm in the beta but that did not work for him so he just went back to school to study math if I remember correctly.

Oh, and the Koreans are way more unbeatable now that they were back when Idra was playing, the Kespa switch in HOTS made the Koreans scene a lot more strong.

haha that made me lol so hard...I remember Felicity all too well <3

OT: Yeah I miss the Day[9], HD/Husky Days, I wasn't that aware of SC2 as an esport until maybe mid 2011ish and I think they all had been around on youtube since the WoL beta days so to me they seemed like "oldschool" authorities on the subject which made it all that much more legit and cool.

What got me into actually watching casted games on youtube was their incredible enthusiasm so yeah....HUUUUGE thank you to all those guys, whatever they may be doing now! In fact, I don't even really care if they left the scene for greener pastures within the following year or two, I'm just very happy they made me aware of something awesome.

Kudos to them and kudos to OP for making me nostalgic!

Huskey just stopped uploading like HD, but it is kind of cool that he still does something youtube related. I bet he loves helping out his girlfriend and has a very happy life together now.

True. I always keep on calling the game itself Artillery for some reason, maybe because the name's a bit nicer than Atlas for a rts game.
