At gamescom, we had the chance to talk to David Kim & Tim Morten.
We asked several questions about the new Commander Mode, eSport, the Campaign and the Story:

What was the day this interview took place on? Just curious because he spoke about getting automated tournaments out within a month. Great interview, thanks for sharing!

How so? Because they're working so that the game is better for the 99% of people who never play 1v1 ladder?

You seriously think hacking is the MOST IMPORTANT issue with the game?

It's because all his gold league opponents hack and that's why he can't rank up.
Hacking is a problem though, when the price start to drop on the game in a few years time I can imagine it will be a huge issue I prefer them to focus on the actual game before release but then they do need to implement somethings to stop hackers or at least just rotate the directories for the information so they have to update the hacks weekly.

Ironically I can remember watching Incontrol's stream few months ago and it was "this is a hacker, again another hacker, oh, someone not hacking, a hacker we met yesterday, this guy we meet regularly last 2 weeks.... aw, screw this, let's go to EU". From that I get the feeling that hacking is actually a huge problem the higher you are(and mostly in NA). In my lulz league I have, maybe, thousands of opponents, if 10 % of them is cheating, who care, what are the odds I will meet them?(rhetorical question ) In GM you can have 10 opponents that have your MMR and the match could be good(meaning both of you have equal skill rating). If 3 of them are cheaters and 3 are not online, you have almost 50 % chance that you will meet a cheater. Obviously you will not play only those 7 persons, but then you are playing players better than you or worse than you :-) And even if we are talking about 30 persons and 3 cheaters, the odds are pretty high you will end up with the same cheating scum again and again, because you hit the search game button at the same time and both of you have similar MMR, so the system matches you together :-)

hacking is an unsolvable problem because of the # of fighting units and projectiles on the map combined with the low latency requirements of unit micromanagement in an RTS game. every player must have every unit located in the RAM of their computer for the game to be viable. the more you encrypt this data the more performance issues you have.

no RTS has solved this problem. Victory Games claimed they had solved it, but the input lag was unacceptable for Starcraft level micromanagement. I was in the beta.. and it sucked Jeremy's pure pwnage balls. E was sucking one ball and A was sucking the other ball.

As long as you want low latency micro potential with hundreds of units on screen and thousands of bullets flying then encrypting all this is not viable and hacking is viable.

hacking is never going away

Yes, and the main complain about Blizzard is that their banning waves are too slow and too rare :-)

EA released EALA's C&C4 at about the same time as SC2. How is the hacking rate on the C&C4 server?
and of course Victory games claimed to solve the hacking problem as well. How is Victory Games doing? and EALA for that matter?

If everything was server side like LoL there would be a lot less issue with hackers though.

... what does this have to do with banning waves too slow? If you report a cheater 14 days ago and you keep meeting him on a ladder, is that good for the game or bad? I mean - if I were a new player to the game and watched that Incontrol's stream I wouldn't play anymore, because in 10 games he met 4 times a cheater and 3 times the same one who, as Goeff claimed, was reported few weeks ago.

Edit> I cannot give any more details, I am not watching streams, I just wanted to kill some time before I have to go out and Goeff's stream was on. I was and wasn't entertained at the same time :/

haha..David Kim says SC2 is not just about 1v1...dang i got back into SC2 bc of the 1v1 competition...the story line is ok. Allied Commanders is ok. At the end it is getting better in 1v1 and learning from the pros on how to become better )))

Can't wait for LOTV to come out.

Watch Blizzard pull a Nintendo and design the next Starcraft to be super fantastic just like Super Smash Brothers Brawl. "We don't like fanatical players guys..." "Lets everyone have fun".
