As a terran:

Vaani: Map's fine. Kinda funny looking but it doesn't feel too favourable for any race. Can't complain too much really.
Secret Spring: kind of imbalanced. Too good for Terran against Zerg and for tvp it's probably the strongest blink stalker map in the pool, but if gets to 3 base vs 3 base then probably too good for terran? It's really poorly designed though, fuck this map.
Infernal pools: Too bloody big. Nasty flashbacks of Alterzim stronghold.
Expedition lost: Seems about equal for TvZ, but too favourable for Terran in tvp. There's no way a Protoss can hold onto a 3rd vs a Terran of roughly equal skill.

While secret spring is the best blink map I still disagree that it makes the map especially good for Protoss. The old blink builds and even modern ones still rely on pulling the terran between the main and the nat, which we really cant do, so it limits the amount of real damage or threat a Protoss can pose. Sure protoss can blink in from a number of places, but all of it requires high ground vision and all of it is only really threatening one mineral line, and Orbital Command - not two

Normally true but Secret Spring gives you enough entry points around that main that it's good enough. Still think the map is fucking stupid though, it's central gimmick of a collapsible path down the middle never comes into play and the top left and right quadrants might as well not exist. Fuck this stupid map.

I agree. In addition to being a gimmicky map in PvT, it has got to be the worst PvP map I have ever seen. Way too many places to hide proxy gates - anywhere in the gigantic main, or in the natural, or outside the main ramp. On top of that, the main to main rush distance is so short it is possible to make the gates even quicker, on 8 supply. Easily my least favorite map of the season (although Inferno Pools is giving it some close competition).

Interested in watching how the stats on these maps will develop. Many of those maps could swing wildly both ways in the matchups, or turn out very balanced.

Hope that Expedition Lost turns out balanced, the map is so much fun.

Seriously? Vaani's probably the worst map in the pool. It might not be the most imbalanced, but it encourages turtly play above all else. Games on that map will be really really generic in all matchups.

As for the other maps, I don't like inferno much though it hasn't been played on a lot. Secret Spring and Expedition Lost look like fun maps, though they might not be very balanced in some match-ups. We'll have to see how they turn out.

so what is the verdict on inferno's placement in size

eh i just gave it a general statement

Size rankings, in descending order:

1)Alterzim Stronghold - 192x192
2)Korhal City/Inferno Pools - 180x180
4)Condemned Ridge - 188x172
5)Tal'Darim Altar - 176x176

Just for general information, not saying it should all be included. To your credit, the original statement that it's only beaten by Alterzim in terms of size was correct.

And today was the day I got beaten by mass speedling into baneling bust into nydus hydra on inferno pools. Not horizontal or vertical spawns, either. Diagonal.

And Secret Springs, re: Zerg trying to defend against 2 base with 3 bases? Nonsense, they can simply all in themselves... died to a baneling bust on that too. Fun all around!

I think Vaani is the only map I've really enjoyed playing so far. I did have some fun games on Inferno Pools, including a 52 minute PvT epic. But in general, bleh.

It doesn't look like a very good map pool for protoss players, but there might be some interesting 2 base all-ins or proxies or other cheeses that work fairly well.

Well if we follow Ret's reasoning it's a very good map pool for P players with all the inbase naturals^^

Well, the inbase naturals helps you get to a 2 base all-in position very safely and easily, which is good for Protoss. However, the difficulty of taking the third means that the opponent should just know you're going to 2 base all-in.

Thirds taken should be late and off the back of a significant army, but I don't know how feasible that is with the way people are currently playing.

We'll just have to see.

In PvZ it isnt
ModeratorProtoss all-ins are like a wok. You can throw whatever you want in there and it will turn out alright.

True, but 2 base all-ins might be a little easier in PvZ on these maps, so hopefully that works out. I'd expect to see protosses lose a lot on these maps.
