WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it. |
As usual, Blizzard giving the whiners what they want.. Holy ***.. I thought that was about "e" sport and about who was the best in what is doing, no matter from where the players are from or the region they are playing in.
I really thought that was an opportunity for everyone to be able to perform against the best there are out there.. What about the Grand Finale in 2015 mhh? Bly vs Rain .. ? Whoah.. quite a thrill!
If some "top" korean players decide to move from korea to get their points that only means they dont have what it takes to win a GSL.. even if they are good.. so I dont think that drag down the korean level at all.
|
qualifying for korean challenger league has to give as many points as winning wcs NA or EU.
|
If Violet's visa allows him to participate in WCS AM next year, I don't see why other teams can't do the same.
|
blizzcon's going to be much excite now on :3 haven't felt this much excitement since bw wcg's.
|
I think it's a bit too late for such region locking system to bring anything but even more harm to SC2. Almost all good NA players already gone and without koreans there will be nothing to watch.

I don't think region-locking is bad to show which people are the best players of each region. I think region-locking is bad due to the nature of the WCS system leading to "Global Finals" - because the hopes for Proleague-team Koreans to participate in the "Global Finals" become dashed because lesser-skilled westerners can pad their WCS points with foreign tournaments while these skilled Koreans can't due to Proleague schedule tying them down.
I'd like to see Bliz compensate the KR region's chances of getting into BlizzCon with WCS points for players excelling in Proleague (like top 16 in win counts in each round receive WCS points comparable to the top 16 in DH or IEM) because a lot of the super-skilled KR players can't be in the "top 16 of the world" due to commitment to Proleague not allowing them to rake in points in foreign tournaments.
I'd also like to see a 4th "free-for-all" online-only region, but who am I kidding, that would end up as a second KR region so it probably won't happen lol
|
So SC2 has become the Little League World Series, where they segregate the regions to ensure foreign players at Blizzcon. They might as well go all the way and rig the Blizzcon brackets so that the grand finals are a foreign vs Korean player.
|
Great news for Polt !!!
I can see the viewership taking a dive in a lot of the group stages of America \EU , due to lackluster game quality.
I guess this is a win for Proleague overall, especially if they can sort out the top heavy Protoss contingent which is killing it at the moment
As to Code S, i fell sorry for the it. Its stacked with the best players in the world and there just isnt enough points/ prize pool to go around.
|
I like that the GSL is getting even stronger but there will be EVEN MORE noobs at Blizzcon this time, instead of top Koreans, which saddens my heart. I think that we either need more Korean national tourneys, more points for the GSL or SOMETHING to react to the vastly different skillranges in the regions.
|
So Blizzcon 2015 will be boring stomps in the first round ? Also it's kind of unfair, that koreans will have to play much better to get the same amount of points.

Never under estimate the power of free money.

Don't like this much at all, unfortunately. I can get behind a reset and requiring all players to re-qualify, but this will screw over Korean players unless Blizzard puts in money to help the GSL expand beyond it's current 3-season, 32-player format.

I see it pretty split right now, I don't know where you're getting that "most people like the moves" from. I think this is terrible.

so basically, at Blizzcon only the Ro4 will be worth watching.
I guess I do like watching foreigners get obliterated, though.

Because there are more Korean players. They have better players, more dedicated players, and unfortunately many of these players have trouble going overseas. What happens when we force most of them (Alright if 4 people manage to secure visas) is that a lot of Korean players will invariably retire. There are much more than 32 players that are good enough to be in Code S, and because a lot of players are teamless they have trouble going overseas. That leaves them getting paid only via Code A (sometimes even that) while Namshar or Adonminus get better shots at making money.
If you think it's fair to screw over thirty-or-more hard-working Korean players (I think we can make a blanket statement saying that they definitely work harder at this point), I don't know what to tell you.

No, it's not fair for everyone. Koreans will either have to move to EU or NA, or they will have to play much better than foreigners to get the same amounts of points. That's the definition of unfair.

Wonder how this will change the Korean scene with players like Jjakji, Hyun, Jaedong and Taeja being forced home for Code S. Personally I feel like this will force retirements among the korean players not making it into Code-S who do not play in Pro League. I dont know if I will ever watch WCS AM again either. Not to interested in a pucK vs Hendralisk final to be honest. Neither am I in Snute vs Bunny final in EU if it is without Korean. Just wont feel like real competition anymore

I read lots of skepticism here, I have to concede that its very unsure how this will turn out.
I will say however that I think a certain degree of lock is good for actually having a fair share of americans in americas WCS. If there is any time when its a good move I think it is now, the foreign scene has exploded the recent months and are getting close to koreas level. If the lock would have come down 1 year ago the european and american scenes would have decayed into a very low level of skill. If they did that then then Polt would keep on winning easy, as it is now Polt can be taken down, any korean can be taken down. You want to argue Polt is still the undisputed god of America just let me remind you of Major, which is just one example.
As it is now the foreign scene can stand on its own and grow from here, the skill and talent are there. Stop saying foreigners are low level or blizzcon will be a joke. An all korean blizzcon is definitely still possible and if foreigners do get there they can hold their own.
