I will only get to make it on Sunday. Will it be worth it?
Will the only games being shown on Sunday be the finals or the semi-finals?
I cannot find a schedule anywhere.

Does it bother anyone else that this event is worth 4k WCS points? That's as much as IEM Sao Paolo and Cologne!

I mean this is a great roster, and I'm definitely going to watch, but the competition here is small enough that I'm bothered that it has real WCS standings implications.

Not really a criticism of this event, just with the WCS point distribution in general. Korea really needs to be weighted a lot heavier.

you can't change the wcs point once you see the players list and you think it looks weak.
and I don't think quality of players is a requirement to have wcs point, its about prizepool, number of players and being offline or online

Why is that? The whole point of even having the point system is so that Blizzcon at the end of the year can crown the World Champion of Starcraft 2014.

If the best players aren't there to compete doesn't that defeat the entire purpose?

At this point I'd think I'd rather just remove all of the extra points awarded by these secondary events and have it rely solely on performance in the actual WCS tournaments. There's still money to be won so it's not like it would kill the event.

As is, the only guys from WCS Korea that actually have a chance of going to Blizzcon are the ones that have actually WON the GSL, (and soO because of his 3 silvers.) That leaves out a LOT of top end players.

I'm more just saying this to keep in mind what should be done about next year.

If Blizzcon happens and there's only like 3 GSL players there total, that is going to be a bad thing and something Blizz needs to address when they lay out the format next year. Either GSL gets weighted a lot more heavily or they stop giving out points to events like this.

The current format favors foreign players and players on foreign teams too much. 750 points for a first place here is worth as much as a top 4 placing in GSL. That's just not right. Polt or Bomber could earn as much as Maru did for the entire Season 2 with a win here.

The system is supposed to get the best players to travel to other regions. It's also supposed to encourage tournament organizers to put on tournaments. Your suggestion for next year is just giving up. In order to stick to the current goals and work on getting a stronger Blizzcon lineup, you need to get top GSL players to actually travel to these events or have some new Asian tournaments with WCS points pop up. I think those things would make for a better scene overall and they're as important to the purpose of the WCS as the actual finals in Blizzcon is.

I get why the incentive exists, honestly I do. I'm at this point just criticizing how much that incentive actually means in the overall standings.

Last year the season finals existed to act as a kind of counter-weight to the foreign tournament point spread, this year no such thing exists.

It costs a lot of money for the Koreans to travel abroad, and it's further compounded by their obligations to Proleague (which doesn't offer any WCS points just btw) so their team has a hard time justifying sending one of their best players abroad when that impacts their performance in proleague either due to lack of preparation or jet lag.

Ideally yes, there should be some more tournaments held in Asia that award WCS points, but while none of those exist we continue to get this huge divide of opportunities for point gain based entirely on whether or not you're on a Korean team.

I think most of this could just be solved by weighing the GSL more heavily. It's by far the most competitive tournament in the world, and I just can't see that changing barring some MASSIVE exodus to the other regions. Having it weigh as much as WCS AM or Europe just doesn't make much sense at this point. It doesn't reflect the true skill gap between the regions enough.

Or we could just start offering WCS points to Proleague. I don't know how you'd spread that out but it's another option.

The main reason why Blizzard created WCS was to increase SC2's popularity all around the globe and encourage more people to play/watch the game. It wasn't designed just to reward the Koreans who are already at the top (that doesn't help the game grow). What your suggesting may temporarily make the tournaments more interesting in the short run, but in the long run, it would actually hurt the game because it eliminates the incentive for amateur/mid-level players to participate.
