They were also founded by a group of reasonably high-level ex-Facebook and Google devs, which means they're likely to have (a) good access to investors, and (b) a not insignificant amount of personal capital to throw into the project. It's worth keeping in mind that the end-goal of the company isn't to build an RTS. It's to build a proven technology for delivering RTS-like games over HTML5. The browser-based gaming market is beyond huge, and if they can position themselves as the "Source/Unreal Engine" of that area, that's where the big money is going to come from. Whatever actual game they're developing is just the necessary proof that the technology works and can attract people to play it. From the engine developers point of view, the more time they spend during "Atlas" development trying out how the engine can do different crazy things, the more complete and flexible the underlying code will be proven to be, and the more attractive it'll eventually be to license to others. Those are some big names on the investor list. Looks legit but what does Day9 have to do with them?

Again, he DID NOT say he was retiring in the interview. He ended it thanking his mom, his fans and subscribers and a few others. As a summary, he talked about his role at Artillery, his roommates, his fans, casting, and a few odds and ends. No retiring. No accounting firms. Thanks for that, now if only we can get this in the OP.

the idea of power ups on the map (note: I know he's just pulling examples out of his head and this in no way reflects the state of development of Project Atlas) reminds me of 7th Legion sort of, that's an RTS I haven't had a thought about for years. I like when he asked how long the game would take and HotBid references George RR Martin instead of Blizzard. No real reason why I just totally expected a blizzard joke and RR Martin came out

Stuff like paying to get to play works because its a mobile device, you can take that entertainment with you and pay for it when you need it. I don't think that would work in a pc game, I definitelly think the league of legends model is a better fit to try and mimic to some degree.

I don't like watching interview videos, the pace is too slow. its much faster to simply read the transcript. that's why i've always preferred reading the news to passively watching the news. anyway to work at an accounting firm you need a degree in accounting. day9 did not study accounting so i'm guessing this is a terribad troll attempt. as for games being fun or not, of course its impossible to predict how popular something will be. also, fun and challenging are often times at odds with one another. most of today's games have been dumbed down to cater to the lowest common denominator, aka the console kiddies. example. The vetrans of the fighting game community loved street fighter 2: super turbo. it requires precise execution, knowledge of spacing, frame data, and matchups. The OGs hate sf4 because it dumbed everything down. but sf4 has taken off because it has "fun" pretty graphics and flashy supers. Likewise, guys like me who grew up playing the vs series think marvel vs capcom 2 is a masterpiece that suited multiple play styles from precise zoning keepaway games to fast paced mixups into difficult to execute combos. ditto mvc1 and xvsf. mvc3 ruined all that by giving everyone brain dead ez mode 100% combos. but mvc3 is more popular and "fun" fun != high skill ceiling Dude, I know people with math degrees working as software engineers of all things for big tech firms. And you say that number-crunching work like accounting doesn't fit a math guy like Day9? Pretty sure I also have a friend whose an accountant but didn't get an accounting degree. Then again, I doubt he's the common case by any means.

You don't need to be a CPA to work in accounting; in fact a quick google search for job postings at a few larger accounting firms reveals there's a ton of majors/degrees that are sought after (including mathematics/statistics especially). He came across as an ass, but that doesn't invalidate his point, nor is it correct to assume everyone that works for an accounting firm is purely an accountant, oddly enough. I work at an accounting firm, and yes he is right you don't need to be an accountant but all the recruits are accounting degrees or working towards their CPA. You can work there as a secretary ..... what's the point?? Everyone working at one of the big 4 is trying to be a partner... aka accountant. Let's see any mathematicians here do a full audit on a public or private enterprise... answer is you can't. You can work at a lawyers office as an accountant/secretary/janitors... point is, if you're not a lawyer, you're doing nothing with your life except collecting a paycheck. IF YOU WORK AT AN ACCOUNTING FIRM, YOUR END GOAL IS TO BE A PARTNER... google please

Six venture capital organizations is no laughing matter. These organizations have the money and Artillery has shown enough potential for their investment. This isn't some sketchy Azubuesque business.
