It makes sense for ST players to try to participate in a team league now that GSTL is dead, and them playing in IM uniforms is probably just to get around the restriction that you can't add a new team for R2 that wasn't participating in R1, so an "IM/ST" team was not possible.
I do wish for balance sake that they'd partnered with Prime instead, IM already had a strong (though very P-heavy) team. I'm not even sure how much this improves IM--Life will be great to see, but I don't see Curious, Hack or Panic as an improvement on HerO, YongHwa, ByuL, Trap, Squirtle, etc?
Curious might have the best ZvT in Korea.
That should be useful in proleague

Didn't Jaedong stomp Life conciderably last time?
Life won 3-2 in their only meeting
Life is a nice guy. Stomped him in two games, gave the hyung two games out of respect before owning him again
Life was so afraid to play Jaedong at ASUS NorthCon that he decided to lose 0-3 to Scarlett in the semifinals while Jaedong raped Innovation and later Scarlett when he won the entire thing.
Jaedong is the King Zerg now after breaking his kong title. Life, well, can't say the same anymore

Life was too busy counting his relevant tournament wins
Jaedong was too busy counting the amount of money he made in 2013 to care about winning

Nah. They have a lot of players... but not really a lot of "outstanding players". When you look at a team like SKT, which as Soulkey, Rain, Parting, Classic, etc... that looks like an imbalanced team (despite them finishing 2nd).

On good day they are imbalanced. On bad day they are second.
Some said that the increased roster doesn't really matter as only 4 people get to play. However, a large B-team can improve the results significantly and support more refined practice regiment. It'd be just like the good old KeSPA practice slave tradition!
Hoping they can lure Red Bull as real main sponsor with couple million dollar yearly budget. Red Bull STIM has a nice ring to it. Too bad it sound quite unlikely to have any sponsor investing real money into SC.
Edit: I know they're not officially merged, but all signs points to the dissolution of ST in a not too distant future. The question is: does IM have the money to acquire a bulk of their players?

That's a pretty weak argument when discussing two champions man, GOLDS BEFORE HOES

StarTale doesn't need luck to win a league that has Prime in it
yeah I mean look at all those team league titles they've won the in the past
I'm looking at Prime's championships and all I see are players that aren't on the team anymore
but hey I guess your rookies going 1-14 is a sign of great things to come
I don't see how Prime's players leaving has anything to do with Startale having no titles oh wait they managed to win 1 IGN team league. I guess that's a nice consolation but it's also kind of funny because it was completely won in the finals by PartinG and Squirtle, 2 players that aren't even on their roster anymore as you pointed out with prime
also it's not like ST really adds much to the IM roster. The only players that have a chance at making an impact are Curious and Life through ZvZ. Maybe Curious in all kill to snipe terrans. ST doesn't have the same powerhouse terrans and protoss that they used to have

ST has (had) as many players in Code S as IM. Losing Bomber really sucks but 4 Code S players and Hack is a pretty good all-round lineup in its own right
