It has more potential for what? Yes here are a lot of players that like it more than sc2 right now, but you have to realize that TL isn't the best source for stuff like that. TL has more or less only hardcore fans of starcraft, there aren't really THAT many casuals here. Casuals don't care for all this stuff that make starbow "better" than sc2, i played a few games yesterday (used the lobby, not the chat) and got matched against some lower league players and pretty much all of them said they don't like it cause "x imba". And for all the hype starbow has right now, the maps aren't even in the top 10 of arcade most off the time (or didn't hit it at all, not sure), a lot of people just don't care...

I don't care how big or small it gets; it's fun, which is what matters.

To be fair, circa 2000 most people on broodwar weren't joining games on lost temple either.

Yes! This! As long as people play Starbow. I'll play Starbow. We don't need the whole world or the whole Starcraft scene. We just need people who are willing to play because it is sooo much fun!.

That team got eventually disbanded and left because of poor personal choices within the corporation and what's left are people that try to cater with old names to the dwindling fan base with games and IP's that aren't fit to match the glory of the old games. Diablo 3 sucked, because they removed the fun aspects of the Diablo2 and got too greedy, even implementing shit like an real money auction house (wtf seriously). What's going on with SC2 is that Blizz realized BW was huge in South Korea and had potential to be another cash cow like WoW, with potentially the whole NA and EU market waiting to be monopolized with a true "next-gen" RTS. SO SC2 got made and Blizzard while still being stronk in the marketing department couldn't deliver in terms of game mechanics. They thought that leaving the gameplay will suffice and looked at popular shit like the moba-genre games, and made SC2 a bit faster than it's predecessor, and the units a little bit more heavy hitting. Problem is that nobody wanted dat shit. Competetive SC2 nowadays is stale with little room for deviation since every unit has a direct counter. Problems that those mechanics throw up cannot be solved by mere balance changes. There has to be a complete mechanics change to save sc2 by making it also accessible to the oldschool people. And this won't happen with Blizzard seemingly taking the other route of intensifying Kamehame-Ha battles between drama bitch queen Kerrigan and 2deep18u space god entities.
In the wake of that thank you so much for this mod. Now I can at least spend some time on a RTS again that also feels like BW. Everything you say here is opinion and yours is worth just as much as mine. Honestly, I like Diablo 3 and I like Starcraft 2. I think they are both fun to play. If you like Starbow, that's great too.
I am not telling you, your opinion is worse than anyones, just giving you my take on the situation, like you did with your first post.

People just need to start saying:
"I'm having fun with Starbow"
And stop saying
"Starbow is way better than SC2 and has made me love RTS again."
If people just take the mod for what it is and stop using it as a way to take showts at SC2, people will stop nay-saying the mod.

I got around to playing a few games last night with more to be played over the long weekend (Monday is a public holiday here in Wellington). I'll also be playing a fair bit of ladder (one of my goals this season was to log a lot more ladder games).
Early impressions are that this is a cool and fun game. Kudos again to the developers for their work. Overall, though, I think I prefer SC2. Although, that may change as I play more and Starbow develops through the beta process (not to mention the growth of a Starbow specific meta-game). It is certainly a more social and chilled atmosphere to play games in than ladder - but, that is implicit when there are no rankings on the line in winning or losing and inherent also in exploring a new game. IMO, it's a great break from ladder and it is easier to play casually than SC2. At least this has been my impression thus far.
I like that the developers are taking it easy on the design decisions during this phase of the game's development. When and if they do get around to culling, may I suggest taking a look at the number of upgrades and abilities in the game? It feels cluttered. I think removing some of these in the interests of simplicity would better enable greater depth to the game. It's almost as if the developers had cool ideas but no-one was willing to say, NO to some. Stephen King has an interesting way of approaching editing written work which is, "kill your darlings". This may be applicable to some of these upgrades and abilities.
Things I specifically dislike are the clutter, as mentioned above; the slowness of the game in comparison to SC2 (the intensity of SC2 is exhausting yet addictive); the mish-mash feel the game gives me between BW and SC2. It feels like not enough of either. If anything, playing it has helped me appreciate both BW and (especially) SC2 more in terms of the fact that both games have, at a fundamental level, an inner coherence in design. I don't think Starbow is there - at least, not yet.
Things I specifically like about the game are the expanding into multiple bases and the high ground advantage. I am not sure to what extent the former can be adapted into SC2, but the latter is certainly well worth a look from Blizzard. The expanding is tied into the slower cadence of the game where races have certain advantages at certain points in the game. SC2 has this feature too, but over nerfing of abilities/upgrades and the economy boosts means that these moments of ebb and flow are fewer.
As to Protoss, my race, I don't know yet. It was initially good to have Dragoons back. But, as I played, they seemed boring and bland to me. I never thought I'd say this, but I found myself missing my SC2 pew-pew Stalkers! I am also unsure about having WG tech anymore. It seems inapplicable especially if Dragoons cannot be warped. This feels crude: a patchwork solution so that WG Dragoons are not OP. As the beta process goes on, the SB team will have to decide on inconsistencies like this.
Thanks for an enjoyable game, Kabel and Co. I'll certainly be playing more Starbow.

We removed two upgrades in the most recent patch. I think Vipers Consume should probably also be removed. Defiler probably a bit too good atm. to give them Consume for free, but I think we may take a look at the strenght Plague and especially Dark Swarm. If these abilities are a bit weaker, then Consume could income come for free as well.

I enjoy watching the games, watching players try to figure out builds and experiment is really fun. I have no idea if it'll be fun to watch when it's figured out but it doesn't really matter now.
