Does Starbow has computer AI opponent?
|
1. All bugs and features for Starbow get completed. v1.0 released. 2. Many SC2 pros, including Flash and Fantasy retire in disgust and move back to BW on Afreeca 3. People flood their channels and request Starbow 4. They start having Starbow tournaments 5. ESportsTV picks up on it and has a tournament with crowd favorite pros coming out of retirement 6. Koreans pick up on it and Starbow becomes the official SC2, leaving the abomination released by Blizzard a distant and regrettable memory 7. After the abysmal failure of Heroes of the Storm, Dustin Browder and David Kim are fired, never to grace us again with their forgettable game designs

Yes, it was recently improved as well. It's still very rudimentary. I would suggest to put it on cheater mode with an economic focus to get the thoughts Starbow AI to play vs.

Flash and Fantasy play SC2 at top level very regularly, and Heroes is far from being a failure.....
A bit fanboyish?
I think that Blizz has a ton of ways to improve SC2 so it becomes a very great game, but it needs a different approach with a bit different mindset from Devs, specially on "core" things, specially econ, macro, and movement. Quite funny to see that, in fact, changing that things would not change specially how units play out against each other, but how the game is played in terms of macro, back and forth games, defensive advantage, micro possibiliites, etc. Simply, better design. Damage, DPS, supply inflation, timing potential ... should be reviewed just after stablishing the basics. They always focus on unit balance and nerfing some upgrades to cover for deep design flaws .
Unit balance and unit interaction is another aspect that should be looked only after stablishing how strong the econ is. Some styles and matchups in SC2 are definitely back and forth skill comptetions, not straight strategy wins or one GG mistake. Namely, mirror matchups and TvZ are a proof of what SC2 should be.
David Kim is definitely not a good lead designer.

Patch 1.0
General
- Gas harvest time slightly decreased. Based on comparison tests with BroodWar.
- Smallest ramps on most maps just got smaller.
Terran
- Mercs movement speed reduced to 2.25. Merc stim ability added. Increases movement speed by 50% and attack speed by 100%. Drains 25 life. Damage reduced from 30 explosive to 25 explosive.
- Enhanced Thrustsers Upgrade removed. (Extra range for grapple).
- Optical flare now reduces casting range of spell-casters to 4. Also added some abilities it was not affecting. It also disables "glare" on Sentinel since that is a detection ability.
- Seeker drone range increased by 1.
Protoss
- Void Oscillator now requires Templar Archives to research (the upgrade is still on the twilight counsel). This is the upgrade that grants stalkers high-ground vision.
- Stalker blink now only works in the direction it is looking. If you order a stalker to blink back, it will turn around first.
- Scarab build time reduced from 10 to 9 seconds. The upgrade to have it build faster still sets it to 6 seconds.
- Scarabs now have a longer delay between explosion and damage, allowing any retreating unit with speed 2.25 (marine, medic and siege-tank has 2.25) or greater to only take 50% damage from the scarab.
Zerg
- Queen inject range is now global.
- Ensnare now disables grapple and warp drive on Battle-cruisers. It is also suppose to disable cliff-jump on reapers, but I could not make that work properly yet.
What now?
Developing a game is like painting a picture. Which stroke will be the last? You never know when you are 100% complete, and you may never be. There are still parts of Starbow that can be improved and there will be at least some minor changes in the future. But the base is complete. The structure has a solid foundation. I will not stop working on Starbow and there are many others that will not stop either. We will promote, organize, balance and enhance as long as we feel necessary.
On the other hand, new players at this point should be able to start learning builds and timings without having constant changes messing that up. Strategy guides and videos should not be quickly outdated. Any change that is needed should preferably be done via some simple stat changes and not a re-design of units and abilities.
It's been a blast and there are so many to thank. I will link to the "credits" page and start the work on updating it as well. http://starbowmod.com/about/credits
Happy Bowing!

mad props to everyone involved, starbow continues to be a fun game. I wish you guys could get a space apart from sc2 on twitch though, since i wanna watch starbow not sift though legions of boring sc2.. i know i have already brought it up to you, but i think it's paramount to growth.
edit ~ to growth? for growth? english is hard

Thank god, Starbow feels like WA. Bouguereau and SC2 feels like J. Pollock.

All from passion

So... just in looking at Day9 talking about Starbow... I'm leaning towards this mod is better than LotV will be and it's horribly depressing.
