Because this is a Popularity Contest, this thread will be used not only as a discussion thread for the groups and brackets, but as a thread for contestants to post propaganda and pimp themselves out. Yes, it's time for you to prove how awesome you are. But keep all your shameless self promotions in this thread.
Who are you cheering for?
Who do you think will win?
Who are the favorites and underdogs?
Who totally sucks and no one should vote for him!?
Discuss it all here.
TOURNAMENT THREAD FOR VOTING IS HERE.

Current Round: Round of 8
**The Round of 64 Groups were determined by lichter Points. Because I didn't wanna do Group Selections for 64 people, that's crazy.
Round Starts: December 18, 2013 0000 HKT
Wow someone who actually has a real picture
Since the opening of Aligulac, I don't think I've used TLPD for stats and match history when writing an article, except when Aligulac is slow to load. Maybe that's a shameful admission, but seriously, it is awesome. TheBB's work on the site and his ratings have become one of the most important tools in all of SC2, and I tried to find out more about it.
lichter: Hi! Congratulations on making it to the bracket stages! How does it feel to be mega super internet popular?
TheBB: Thanks! It feels great, but honestly I think I have a ways to go before I get all those superlatives.
Everyone knows you as Mr. Aligulac. I'm sure that there are people who haven't heard the story behind the name of the site as well as your pseudonym. Mind to explain it to our audience?
Aligulac is an anagram of the Roman emperor Caligula. It's a name I made up as a kid, and in hindsight I could maybe have picked a better origin. At the time I had no clue who he was or why he was famous. When I bought a domain name a few years back to play around with that's the first thing that came to mind (and which wasn't already taken). If I had known I would run a popular website there I'd have picked the name with more care perhaps, but it's stuck now.
As for TheBB, it stands for "Big Bug," for no particular reason. Maybe I was being prescient with regards to the future quality of my software.
If you could make up a new name for Aligulac, what would it be? I'm sure it wouldn't be as fun to say as Aligulac. Ah lee goo lack.
Hey, great pronunciation! I haven't thought about that. What about a boring acronym? SC2PS (Progaming Statistics). I'm afraid I'm lacking creatively.
Yes... I'd definitely stick with Aligulac. What made you decide to embark on such a crazy (crazy awesome) project?
I kind of just started calculating probabilities and "one thing led to another." I wanted certain things from a rating website, and TLPD did some of them, SC2Charts.net some other things, so after some research I was able to put together my own rating system that I had total control of. Then I just made it public and… that's how it happened. Certainly I could not have predicted this scale at the time.
Aligulac has become the reigning rating and match history tool for SC2. How does it feel to receive so much support and recognition?
Wonderful, really. It's a great feeling to put a lot of hours into a voluntary project (which I often do), and then have it recognized and used (which happens very rarely). If the website went down for ever tonight I would still consider it a success.
If your website went down forever, I'd probably have no idea how to write my articles anymore. I'd have so much less info to use! Have you stumbled on any interesting trends or patterns using your rating system?
Not very much. I spend most of my time fixing bugs and writing features, and making sure the site stays up. Not so much actually analyzing the data. Although there is one thing… I've been trying to estimate how long it takes for the rating system to "catch up" to the fact that Koreans are OP. A common complaint is that foreigners are overrated, but they become less overrated over time. So currently I expect rough parity some time in the fall of 2014. I've also posted before about the proscene clusters (http://i.imgur.com/GdLFvQW.jpg). That one was a lot of fun to make.
Have you ever considered expanding aligulac into other esports? Are you interested in any others?
Some people have contacted me, wanting to adopt the site to work with LoL or other games (even tennis). People are free to try to do this, but I've no interest in doing it myself. E-sports is just SC2 for me (or BW, you guys can vote for me too if you like).
Yeah fuck those guys, SC2 fo lyf. This has probably been the most serious interview so far. I should ask something stupid. If you could put all your Aligulac assistants into a coloseum and command them to fight to the death (they have to, or they all explode), what do you think would happen?
Sorry, I'm too damn serious. Erm… let's see. I want to say that they would all explode because people are just so damn friendly. But I think MasterOfPuppets would throw a few punches. Otolia might be the first to go. Shellshock would drop ironic remarks, Kiekaboe would make sure everything was recorded correctly for posterity, and Prillan would keep the arena functioning until he died. At that point it would all come crashing down. Grovbolle would remain standing and he would keep tweeting until the heat death of the universe.
It sounds like your assistants are a friendly bunch. Don't you have any interesting rivalries or something? Does the Aligulac team have a secret Aligulac Contributor Rating?
We have a list of people who have submitted the most matches (http://aligulac.com/db/), but Kiekaboe is so OP it's not very interesting. We do like to compete with TLPD though (but we're so OP it's also not very interesting), and of late, this bunch: (http://esgn.com/html/standing/standing_esgnelo.php).
Clauf are a big deal. Have you ever considered "selling out"?
Nah, Aligulac is my pet project. I put a lot of effort into openness and to avoid commercial interests. If anyone else has grand schemes they're free to build on our work (see Die4Ever's project—I consider it sort of a derivative work so I would be upset if he goes farther than me :D).
You and Die4Ever are the only non staff still in the tournament. Do you think you have a chance of meeting in the Finals?
No way. Shellshock is trying to make me believe I have a chance but it's not going to happen. I wouldn't give D4E a snowball's chance in hell against whoever it is he's facing either (doesn't really matter at this stage, all the group winners are OP), but he gets so many lategame votes out of nowhere I am not sure. The only group winner who is not a favourite in Ro8 is Wax.
Die4Ever's mysteriously strong late game looks scary. Any last words for your fans?
Thank you all for enjoying my work, and don't forget the other people who made it possible. Thank you also for voting me so far in this competition (which has turned out very interesting—maybe if I lose soon I can at least enjoy my Christmas break without F5'ing every 30 minutes). Still though, don't let that keep you from helping me beat Shellshock, it's possible to be popular or famous without having a star or a weird icon or a username with a funny colour, too.

Die4Ever doesn't get an img thingy coz he didn't want to give me his skype. bastard
WCS was pretty hard to follow, with all those WCS points to look at. Fortunately, we had Die4Ever's WCS Predictor. Without it, we would have had a much harder time following the tournament, and a harder time in wondering if our favorite players could make it to Blizzcon. I investigated whether or not this was the work of a wizard, and if he is secretly evil (he's probably not guys).
lichter: Hi! How does it feel to make it all the way to the Round of 8? As one of the lower seeds it must be pretty exhilarating.
Die4Ever: Haha yea, it's pretty amazing to be on the top 8, I will need to continue working on the WCS Predictor for my fans. I still have some secret plans for it.
You've received a lot of fanfare because of WCS Predictor. Wanna tell the fans your backstory making it? Is it just a hobby or related to your work?
Well I am a professional programmer, I never get to program fun things at work though lol. The old Blizzcon Predictor started as an idea to make automated previews for tournaments, and I was really excited for Blizzcon since I was going to be there for the first time(which was awesome btw).
The new one is a website that will be much better, easier to work on for me, and will have more features. For example in the old one I never fully simulated Code A or Challenger Leagues, since they would've been a pain to program. In WCS Predictor 2014 I'm already simulating Code A and Challenger Leagues, and even the qualifiers with the appropriate region locking.
I'm also planning on having some fun extras since the program already is going to have all the current results for matches and other info. I'm thinking achievements for players like win streaks, upcoming match highlights on the front page and how they will affect players' chances, maybe some other things.
I also have this 1 idea, I guess I'll leak it here.
If you've ever seen Afro Samurai, I want to copy the headbands idea.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro_samurai#Plot
It's kind of an extension of the Unofficial World Champion thing.
The number 1 headband currently belongs to sOs for winning Blizzcon, the number 2 headband belongs to Jaedong for getting 2nd. If the #2 beats the #1 then they switch headbands. If someone without a headband beats the #2 then they take it. The #1 can only lose their headband to someone with the #2.
This will be tracked for any tournament that gives WCS points.
That sounds pretty awesome. Have you ever tried contacting Blizzard about your predictor? I'm sure they'd be interested in seeing something like that!
I've tweeted it to @Blizzcon and @Starcraft before but no response lol not even a retweet.
That is mega balls. I guess Blizz doesn't like it when someone shows them up. You work with numbers a lot. Any interesting revelations, patterns, or statistics that you've stumbled upon in your work?
Koreans own white dudes.
Also a single season of Code S has I think about 137 billion ways it can play out, so doing millions of simulations is really important for accuracy. Not all of the 137 billion outcomes are significant, like a player making 24th place instead of 32nd place doesn't mean much. The great thing about monte carlo style simulations is that it doesn't need to see every outcome to get pretty accurate probabilities.
In a single season getting 8th place doesn't really do much for a player either, but with the new version doing the overall year, an 8th place will be huge for that player with them being safe in Code S for the next season.
I knew that everyone wanted the new simulations to be up immediately after a match and be accurate lol. So the new version is built to do incremental simulations. It does blocks of 1 million samples/simulations (that number is adjustable) and when you refresh the page (if I'm running it) you can actually see the number of samples going up. The first block is the one where it looks for all the events that help/hurt the players and the other blocks are just for counting and refining the accuracy, so the first block takes the longest. This means I can have a new update on the page after a match in less than 10 minutes, and then after an hour you'll see like 20 million samples for really high accuracy.
You're lucky that we're all nerds on TL; this would go unnoticed in other communities I'm sure. What made you decide to go through all this work for the SC2 Community?
Well I enjoy programming, I mostly did it for fun. I did feel a sense of duty to do the updates after each big match though. Also some of the features were purely for the fans, like the foreigner hope rating and the upcoming match effects. For the new version I plan on it being able to automatically get the new results from liquipedia and start a new update, just in case I'm away or sleeping. It's really great to see all the fans I have gotten though, they're the reason why I'm making the new one so much more polished, I never find fun in polishing programs or making websites look good, all the fun for me is in the problem solving of programming and optimization.
It sounds to me like you're a wizard. Wizards scare me. Have you ever used your powers for evil? With great power comes great responsibility. A dead guy once said this.
Hmm once me and a friend wrote a program back in high school that when run on just 1 computer would print to all the printers in the school. It was like 200 printers or so.
I also once wrote a program as a prank for someone at work, it faked typos by detecting what keys you're pressing and if you were typing fast enough then it would type a letter near the key you pressed, and it would also adjust the mouse speed if you were moving the mouse fast enough, and sometimes swap the mouse buttons. It even had a remote control so I could adjust how hard it would mess with him.
That sounds deliciously evil. Kinda makes your name, Die4Ever, make more sense. Are you dying for someone named Ever, dying forever, are you giving Ever a die, or is it something far more sinister than that?
I came up with the name when I was like 12 lol, the idea is that in video games you respawn, Die4Ever is being said to my opponent, as a command. Kinda like "gg no re" I guess lol.
That's... not a very good name. Anyway. Do you think you have what it takes to make it to the Semi Finals? You will be facing Hot_Bid, who many consider the de facto most awesome bro on TL.
Thanks.
Hot_bid is gonna need a new pair of ESPORTS aviators to beat me.
Well it's going to be a tough battle, but you've made it this far so it should be close. Any last words to your fans?
I wanna thank my fans and the Aligulac guys for their continued support. Vote for me and TheBB in the next round! I also want to take this time to do my best Tasteless impression and plug some of my stuff.

Either KBB is an actual Yoshi or he's just consistent. I prefer the former.
Have you ever been banned? Chances are, it was KadaverBB. Known as the quickest hammer on TL, the guy just... loves to ban, that much is clear. But he wasn't born into the hammer, he had to deserve it. I investigated, at 2 frickin AM, just what inspires him to be TL's #1 Mod.
lichter: Hi! Congratulations on squeezing through to the Round of 8! How does it feel to be one of the 8 most popular people on TL?
KadaverBB: It feels really nice Non actioning all those reports apparently made me popular!
You're well known as the super mod. Do you feel like people fear and not respect yoshi?
I don't think anybody fears me actually. I try to be pretty nice to everybody and not judge anybody too harshly.
I guess people not seeing your mod notes helps, huh? Wanna tell everyone how you ended up with the hammer? I'm sure everyone wants to know.
I had always thought about doing some work for teamliquid at some point. Unfortunately I am neither creative or funny, so all that was left to me was doing moderation work. When this thread popped up (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=384553), I asked for my stats to see if I was actually good at judging peoples posting! Soon after plexa asked me if I wanted to be a moderator and my dream came true! I then proceeded to ask him over 9000 questions because I was nervous as fuck. Feels like it was yesterday even though it has been more than a year now.
Fun fact. Only Shellshock has better report stats than me I think. He really is that awesome.
Do you consider Shellbot a threat to your title as the hottest mod in town? You've both made it to the Ro8, but he's been having an easier time so far.
If we meet, I am 99,99% sure that he will beat me. He is just that popular :D. It is unlikely that he will outmod me though, for example: This month I have handled 495 report so far, while he only has 74. Pft. Weak...
If only those were the voting stats, huh? Those are some insane numbers. I'm sure people want to know more about the KBB that isn't a mod. What do you do in real life? If I had to guess, you'd be a judge or an executioner. Possibly someone who works in Loan
I am actually studying Computer Science and hope to be half as good as R1CH at some point
My free time is spent playing Hearthstone/D&D/Minecraft and doing work for Teamliquid
If you could choose one of those games to be a metaphor for your life, which would it be and why?
wtf
I guess Hearthstone? I love the game the most and I fucking love my life as well! I am also really good at Hearthstone and I am also good at being alive!
I am pretty sure that's not a metaphor. I should deduct 50 votes for terrible answers from now on. Would you like to try again?
No. I should ban you for that terrible question!
You're probably already losing votes for not giving a good answer so I guess that's punishment enough. Speaking of punishments, do you secretly keep a log book of how many users you've banned and how long you've banned them for?
No I don't. The only thing I keep track of is hatemail, because getting hatemail is fun. Always makes me feel like I made a good decision in banning that person. Thanks to everyone who sent me hatemail thus far!
What's the best hatemail you've ever received?
It was titled "Hello mein Fuhrer". I'll leave the rest of it to the imagination. 99% of my hatemail is just calling me a nazi because I am german. It is honestly not very original, it is really disappointing.
You'd think people would be more creative with insults. Ok, penultimate question and I am going to try this again: if you could only be one kind of yoshi, which would you be and why? I hope you can be more creative than your hatemailers.
Unfortunately no. I will have to go with the green one eventhough it is the obvious answer. He was the first one, , the one who first carried mario to victory! He paved the way for all other Yoshis, they owe him everything. Or to be a little more negative, he was the one who first sold his entire race into slavery, but in either case, he is responsible for starting it all and therefore I'd like to be him!
Ok... I guess that's sort of a good answer. You like being first. Any last words to your fans before the next round?
You guys keep reporting, I keep banning! (heart)

Oh opterown, what SC2 fan doesn't know your name? The latest in a long line of certified LR Bonjwas, opty has recently moved on to the field of medicine. Though he has retired from LR Bonjwahood, he has once again begun posting more, and everyone knows that TL needs more Prime fans. Here is a short conversation I had with him regarding his work for TL and real life.
lichter: Hi! You've been one of the more participative contestants in L'sTLCMAT. Are you happy that you've made it this far?
opterown: Hmmm, I'm happy that I've made it to the RO8, it's a good performance especially since I haven't been that active for the past few months.
A lot of people have been wondering about that. What's been keeping you away from TL?
Lately it's been some combination of less free time, as well as having a bit less to follow. It's definitely more fun when your favourite players are doing well, but yeah I guess that's life. I was pretty drained too, so I spent most of that time idling on TL, but just not posting as much.
Rumor has it that you've been busy with med school. Is this true?
Rumour? Haha, hardly a rumour at this stage since I've not been particularly closed about it. Yes, I've just finished 5th year of MD, which is why you've probably seem me more in the past few weeks since I'm on a break. There's a few weeks left until I'm back, and I'm planning to have as much time off to relax as I can :D
Have you found a cure for SC2 yet?
LOL not quite, but we'll see. I think a combined Korean ProLeague would be a good first step .
You became famous due to your work on LR threads. How did you end up doing that work?
Oh, I started my first LR with the Greatest GSTL Finals Of All Time at IPL4, since my favourite team was playing in it and I'd thought I'd give it a try. I also wasn't a particular fan of the other LR threads running around at that time, and wanted to see what I could contribute to the scene.
After that, Seeker took a small break from LRing due to personal reasons, so I sort of took over and things just spiralled out of control from there. I've made well over 200 LR threads to this date, and many more pre-made OPs on top of that too. It's been fun, and I'm happy to have contributed that much to TL at least.
Do you think you'll ever come back to it? Or are you happy to have passed on the LR Bonjwa title to someone else? It's a tough gig and not a lot of people are willing to put in the time.
I still make LR threads when I'm free, but you're doing a perfectly good job premaking the LR OPs so I know it's in good hands! Currently, it's not really one person making most of the LRs but a lot of people chipping in, which I think is a much more sustainable practice than one person taking them mostly on, like Seeker or me. Less likely to get burned out, I guess, since it's not an easy task.
So far all of the LR Bonjwas have been Asian. Do you think Asians are just superior at handling LR threads?
LOL I've no idea, there's hardly been much of a sample size to work with right? There's been people like MrCon, probe1 and drazerk in the past who used to make many LRs, so it's hard to say.
You've probably made a lot of friends during your time on TL. Have you met any of them IRL?
Nope! I've never met anyone IRL that I first met on TL. I haven't even been to a live eSports event o.O. I guess eSports isn't that big on Australia, there aren't many Sydneysiders on TL that I've gotten to know well
I was planning to go to UK for my elective this year, and I could have met some guys like Hassybaby and MCDayC there, but that didn't end up working out. Pity.
Although special shoutout to storywriter, who's actually doing med with me at the same uni (he's a year younger though). I don't think we've met in person yet (although I've probably seen him around).
So far you've been the chattiest Ro8 contender. Is this your way of showing up your possible opponents?
Have I been? That might just be a by-product of my large number of posts. Although I guess if you mean by my interview, I'm a fairly chatty person anyway. There's only been two interviews before mine, anyway, and Hot_Bid will probably afkwin the rest of the tourney unless R1CH steps in again.
Nothing really much to show to my possible opponents, other than that they'll likely end up being all higher-tier staff. Gotta fight the establishment! Vote for the people's man, not nazi mods like Shellbot.
Kinda funny to trash talk Shellbot when you're the only two Prime fans left? How does that feel by the way.
Prime fans are the best fans, their awesomeness is clearly concentrated in the remaining fans. That's why we have to post so much!
Do you have any predictions for Proleague? How many map wins do you think Prime will get?
I think Prime will take 1-2 maps per match, but they're not likely to take many series. We'll have to see though, it's been a while since we've seen many of the palyers at all. I think CJ, Jin Air and SKT will end up doing quite well, as expected. Rather... moderate opinions, nothing major.
Do you have any last words for your fans?
Thanks to everyone who's been voting for me, we managed to overcome the evil forces of BisuDagger and Die4Ever in the RO16! I was having fun afkwinning with your support, but those guys put up a tough fight, so props to them. Let's keep going strong and continue the momentum!
Thanks to Blizzard for making SC2 such a great spectator game, thanks to TL for being an amazing community. Thanks to lichter for running this tournament! Thanks to all the friends and good times I've had!
And a final shoutout to UNSW Scholarships and Centrelink, my sponsors, without whom I wouldn't be where I am today. ;p

Shellshock's profile pic. Maybe he's actually a dogbot.
Shellshock is well known for his Live Repporting, crazy post count and recent promotion to modness. One of the biggest posters in SC2 Tournaments, his name is familiar to most but his personality still a mystery. I interviewed him about his rise to moderatorship and his love of TL.
lichter: Hi! Congratulations on making it to the Round of 8. How does it feel to make it this far?
Shellshock: I am happy to make it but I am disappointed that opterown was able to advance first in his group because I wanted to rub it in his face that I did better than him
Did you expect that you'd do this well? You've had one of the stronger runs in the tournament, comparable only to opterown.
I expected to win all my matchups except the one against R1CH. I figured he would trash me with his wizard powers by over 1000 votes but apparently even his mom wasn't enough to turn the tides. Some people complained that I was picking easy opponents so I guess it's good that I advanced.
There was a lot of suspicious voting patterns in this round, actually. There are rumors that you invited your spambot family to vote for you. Is this true?
No I was saving that for later rounds. I have no clue how I won last round.
Maybe you're actually popular. Would you attribute that to your inhuman post count, your contribution to Live Reports, or your status as a mod?
Probably my contributions to LR threads. Basically all the other banlings got knocked out early so it's probably just that I haven't banned enough people yet for them to turn on me. I feel like I'm pretty limited to just sc2 people voting for me though, so I was hoping to hire Bisudagger as a campaign manager for the later rounds to help me diversity my vote support. He seemed to have some good ideas but just got unlucky.
What got you into Live Reporting in the first place, and how did that turn into you getting promoted to a mod?
opterown kept asking so I basically got guilt tripped into doing it one day. It seemed easy enough and no one else really felt like doing it so I figured I might as well. I guess I got promoted to mod because my report % was decent and I was really active in the sc2 tournament section. Too many people creating threads and not updating them and stuff, renaming all of Pandemona's threads, etc...
People are perplexed by your ridiculous posting stats and ability to reply to threads while Live Reporting. Is there a secret or are you actually a robot? Or a wizard? Or a wizbot?
No I just have a terrible sleep schedule and get really bored in class. I'm only human. I even tried to cut back on my posting because I felt like I was spamming too much. also sc2 is dead so there's nothing to post about anymore
I think most people on TL have terrible sleep schedules and boring classes or day jobs. Which of these weirdos on TL do you consider your closest internet friends?
Dodgin. And Lorning because his sc2 name is Nickelback. Tou're ok too I guess.
That's... nice of you to say I guess. Any last words to your fans?
I guess I can say thanks for voting for me so far. I'm a pretty reserved guy. I think this can be confirmed by people like MCDayC and StarVe who have talked to me outside of TL. I'm hoping to show some pretty good armchair GM level play in LRSL so watch me and others make asses of ourselves there while the 4 actually good people win it all. HerO is the protoss MarineKing according to Darkhoarse. DAE plz vote 4 me. Also I suck at interviews so TL can go ahead and say "awkward" as much as they want because I know they have a raging boner for that word. The_Templar is a noob so I am glad the he lost early.

As the boss of SC2 writers on TL, Waxangel was always going to be one of the big guns heading into the tournament. He has now advanced to the Round of 8 with room to spare, looking like a strong bet to at least make it through another round. I interviewed him to find out more about the man behind the Snorlax icon.
lichter: Hi! Congratulations on making it to the Round of 8! How does it feel to make it this far into the tournament?
Waxangel: I'm very happy to make it to the Ro8. All my opponents were tough, and I think I was lucky to get through (laughs).
Do you think you have what it takes to win the whole thing?
I don't know. I think if I keep working hard and trying to show fans fun games, I'll get good results."
That sounds like a generic answer. We usually see a very snarky and sarcastic Waxangel on TL. Are you really like that in person?
I've read those kind of comments on internet communities, but I don't know why people would think that way (laughs). The taunts I made at the group selection was just fan service.
A lot of people have mentioned that they love the friendly competitiveness in the competition. Do you have a best friend on TL? How about an arch nemesis?
On my team I'm closest with Minsu-hyung (HawaiianPig) and Jisung-hyung (tree.hugger). I don't think I have enemies, we're all friendly with each other on our team.
If you could bring any 3 people from TL on a mission to save your girlfriend from a Somali Pirate Boat and its musclebound and hairy pirate captain, who would you bring and why?
I'd take Minsik-hyung (Kennigit) because he finished his military service, and Gwang-hyung (Rekrul) because he's tall. Finally... I'd take Youngtaek-hyung (Sirjolt) so I'd have somenoe to talk to.
Sounds like you're just going to use SirJolt's beautiful skin to distract the pirates, use Rekrul as a ladder and have Kennigit shoot people. Do you really think this plan could save your hypothetical girlfriend?
I don't know. Sounds like a good plan (laughs).
Well it's your hypothetical girlfriend on the line so good luck with that. Speaking of hypothetical girlfriends, Fuck Marry Kill: Polt, Stork, Leenock.
Seems like a strange question (laughs)
This is a popularity contest, not a Mr Congeniality contest, and questions like this gets ratings. I thought you were all about the clicks?
I'm thankful that my fans always give me so much support and cheers. I just hope I can repay them with good games.
You're not even answering my questions anymore. I'm totally not voting for you in the next round. How does it feel to lose a precious voter?
I'm thankful for all fans of the game, even if they're not my personal fans. They're the reason I'm here today.
Screw this interview man, just go ahead and give me your last words to your fans or something.
I want to thank all of my fans again foralways giving me their support. Please keep watching my games and cheer for me. I will do my best to show you good games. Also, thanks to my sponsor TeamLiquid.net

After a grueling Round of 32, we know how our last group stage players. With only the strongest of the strong--as well as a few surprising darkhorses---left in the competition, everyone is going to have to vote if they want their favorite community member to make it out alive. So many big names went down in the Round of 32 that it would be crazy to list them. I'd basically list everyone. Instead let's talk about those that survived.
Big favorites Shellshock, opterown, Waxangel and Hot_Bid went through without a hitch. They dominated their groups and look to have momentum behind them to at least make it to the knockout rounds. Their first picks however, may prove to be difficult. GameHeart, TheBB, and shiroiusagi have shown time and again that post count and forum power mean nothing when you have the resume, twitter followers, and adorable pictures to back you up. Our top seeds have looked untouchable so far, but this will prove to be their sternest test. BisuDagger was the only player specifically picked in the first round, and his SKT T1 and Bisu fan backing should worry opterown more than past opponents.
monk and R1CH round out Group A in what might be the group of Death. Shellbot's 53k posts still look commanding, but monk has been becoming an even more popular player with his success in Hearthstone. Still, it's hard to consider them big favorites over the man who made observing games so much better (GameHeart), and the guy who made this all possible (R1CH).
In Group B we have Waxangel, Torenhire, Nazgul and TheBB. While it does look like another difficult group for TheBB, he has beaten Nazgul handily before, and might favor himself over Torenhire with the power of Aligulac. Naz, who struggled in the Round of 32, has looked surprisingly weak for the boss of TL. Torenhire has had some difficulties advancing as well. It looks good for both Waxangel and TheBB, but don't expect a walkover.
For Group C, we have two calendar staff facing off in the first match. opterown and BisuDagger may have the same icon, but each are famous for different things. While opty is known for managing LR threads in SC2 and Dota2, BisuDagger is more popular with BW old timers. In the other match, we have Die4Ever vs Plexa, a match I have no prediction for. Plexa is a popular and well known red, but can be considered a jack of all trades. Die4Ever should get the SC2 vote, but Plexa has a waffle icon.
Lastly we have Group D. Hot_Bid has so far afkwon his way to this round, but will it be enough? Other community members have put in time and effort to try and win your votes. Is Hot_Bid really going to win on reputation alone? Well, his first match should be a close one, as shiroiusagi's adorable drawings have pulled her through rounds time and again. As the most well liked art staff, she definitely has what it takes to cause another upset. The other match is the face off of the 3 letter acronyms, KAG vs KBB.
It's the last group stage. It's all knockouts after this, so group positioning will be important. Good luck!
Group C: opterown, BisuDagger, Die4Ever, Plexa (4)

After a long and difficult group selections, we now have the 8 groups of 4 that will vie for a place in the final group stages. Without a doubt, every single group we have now would have been considered a Group of Death in the Ro64, and it is as difficult as ever to predict who's going to make it out.
The first person to get picked was CosmicSpiral, Shellbot using some Shellbot-y algorithm to somehow determine that he was his weakest possible opponent. According to the #1 Seed in the tournament, he's picking Mvp style so expect him to continue to try and get straight forward groups as he powers on through the tournament. He'll have to get past either BLinD-RawR or KAG in the winner's match however, and neither opponent will be a walkover.
A surprise for some, super-mod KadaverBB ended up being picked last, as an autopick, by Sayle. Whether or not this is a stroke of luck or impending doom, only time will tell. Sayle had previously knocked out Seeker in the Winner's Match in the Round of 64, and he looks good value to make it through this set of opponents as well. The winner of their match will face either Heyoka or Die4Ever for advancement.
Other enticing groups include Group B, The Red Group, which includes Plexa, SirJolt and R1CH. Serejai finds himself lumped with these guys after Plexa boldly selected everyone's worst enemy. Group F is another red-filled set of contestants as Waxangel, TheEmulator and 2Pacalypse- somehow all find themselves together, mostly due to autopicks. shiroiusagi rounds out that group, and after knocking out Seeker in Ro64, will give these reds a run for their money.
Group D is another Group of Death contender, as early favorite opterown decided to lay the smack talk down on anti-Prime fan Dodgin. As two of the most popular players--just look at their post counts--in the tournament, this will definitely be one of the Initial Matches to watch. Tournament organizer and writer lichter was dragged into it by Dodgin, who had wanted to make an "LR group of fiery death", but instead of picking another LR regular, lichter decided to drag fellow writer monk into this already contested group.
Mystery man baller finds himself in Group E, autopicked by Chill. A group made entirely up of autopicks, Torenhire and BisuDagger also find themselves in the group. Only BisuDagger came in first in the Ro64, where he also faced Chill. Could this be a fortunate group for Bisu's #1 fan?
The last two groups, C and G, contain the 2 favorites of the competition, in Hot_Bid and Nazgul respectively. They've so far only needed their reputation in receiving afkwins, but will their lack of participation begin to haunt them? Hot_Bid will have to get past GameHeart, then stuchiu and itsjustatank to proceed to the Ro16. Naz on the other hand will have to knock down darkhorse TheBB, as well as The_Templar or disciple after that. The_Templar may prove to be difficult opposition as he seems determined to advance, even calling me out on never talking about him in detail. He does LRs man what more do you want?! Will TL's voting populace demand more than just name recognition to continue on the tournament, or will their extreme popularity be enough to earn the title of TL's Most Awesome?
Group G: Liquid`Nazgul, TheBB, The_Templar, disciple (4)
Group F: Waxangel, shiroiusagi, 2Pacalypse-, TheEmulator (3)
Group H: Heyoka, Die4Ever, Sayle, KadaverBB (3)
Group A: Shellshock, CosmicSpiral, BLinD-RawR, KristofferAG (2)
Group E: Chill, baller, Torenhire, BisuDagger (2)
Group C: Hot_Bid, GameHeart, stuchiu, itsjustatank (1)
Group D: opterown, Dodgin, lichter, monk (1)

Whoa! First group stage is over!
And what an unpredictable round it was!
Several highly ranked contestants were eliminated, the highest of which include NeoIllusions (8), KwarK (10), Fionn (11), TheYango (12), and Seeker (13). The elimination of Fionn and Seeker are particularly surprising, as the former was a beloved writer before jumping ship to LoL, and the latter the community's most respected translator. Fionn might have suffered from his traitorous ways, but Seeker's ouster against shiroiusagi can be put down to a difficult group, which also included powerhouse Sayle. Seeker must be considered the biggest victim so far of the Group of Death, and we'll certainly miss his presence.
Rekrul vs baller was also one of the most anticipated final matches, but it looks like the legend of baller rolls on for now. This leaves us with ZERO Korean flags left in the tournament. Finally, an SC2 tournament where foreigners rule.
To add even more drama to the final day of the round of 64, there was also an Overtime Poll between Teoita and CosmicSpiral. Their initial face off ended in a tie, but CosmicSpiral quickly leaped ahead in the overtime round and held on to win 10-9.
This leaves us with our Top 32 and the start of Group Selections. Will we see another Group of Death? One including Waxangel, Sayle, R1CH and darkhorse TheBB is certainly a possibility. No matter how the groups pan out, it's clear that no one is safe and you're going to have to keep voting and propagandizing for your favorite TL Community Member if you want him to be crowned Most Awesome.
+ Show Spoiler [Round of 64 Winner's and Loser's Matches] +
And we have our first winners! and losers I guess
OMG! People got eliminated! Even though it sucks to get eliminated in the first round, going up against some of the most popular TL denizens is pretty tough. We saw some really big names go down early, including reds such as fusefuse and salle. Even popular writers Olli and Christelle could not get past the first round, such was the level of awesomeness in this tournament. Their articles this year were some of the most loved and enjoyed by the community, yet someone had to be eliminated. Big contributors Dakota_Fanning, SinCitta, blade5555, and others also went down in the Round of 64 as last in their group.
While we big adieu to some great guys, others flew right by the first group stage looking strong. The reds all crushed their groups, and are joined by other big contributors like opterown, KBB and stuchiu in group selections. Somehow, Serejai also made it, mysteriously receiving a 40 vote swing in the final 30 minutes.
The biggest win of the round has to go to TheBB, whose Aligulac must be the most widely used SC2 information site aside from TL. As the lowest seed in his group, TheBB simply let his mathy brain do the talking. He's one name to look out for in the future.
The biggest upset, on the other hand, might be the fact that everyone's favorite translator, Seeker, has yet to advance! Facing Sayle in what might have been the biggest clash so far in the tournament, Seeker was unable to use his Korean flag to dominate his opposition. He's still an odds on favorite to win his final match, but in any other group you would have expected him to be in the Ro32 already.
So, even though 16 people have already been cut from the tourny, there's still a long way to go before we crown the Most Awesome Dude on TL.
+ Show Spoiler [Round of 64 Winner's and Loser's Match…] +
ROUND OF 64 INITIAL MATCHES ARE DONE! And what a first day it was!
***Warning, spoilers you dummy!
Several contestants staked their claim of being tournament favorites, posting dominant wins in their first matches. Waxy, Fionn, opterown, Dodgin and Shellbot all had greater than 80% of the popular vote, crushing through to the winner's match. We're going to have to keep an eye on these guys as the tournament progresses. Can anyone knock out these early favorites? Or will they somehow pick each other in Group Selections?!?!
The first round of voting was also not without drama, as Serejai vs KwarK came down to a SINGLE VOTE ending in what many consider a massive upset. There was some controversy when it was discovered that it was possible to vote using the same user using different IP addresses, with Serejai admitting to the crime. However, it is impossible to determine just how many votes were cast for either person using duplicate users, so the results stand. Better go ask R1CH about this, TL polls are apparently not infallible!
There were other close matches, including lichter vs Torenhire, 2Pac vs kollin, and Torte vs fusefuse all ending with less than 5 votes separating the two. Torenhire in particular will have to step it up if he wishes to face Serejai in future rounds for their anticipated deathmatch. SC2John and Teoita also had their face off postponed for now, as the former dropped to the Loser's Match while the latter scraped by to face opterown. SC2John will have to get past writer CosmicSpiral if he wants to face Teoita, who is not favored against the mighty opterown.
The Round of 64 continues as we get on with the Winner's and Loser's Matches! Don't forget to check this thread for updates, recaps, previews, interviews, and other stuff!
The rest of the results can be seen in the tournament thread.
+ Show Spoiler [Round of 64 Preview] +
Whoa! So many Groups of Death!
Our first group looks easy to predict, with Shellshock a dominant first seed. But kollin despite being underage and sort of disappeared is also a popular guy, while Christelle must be considered one of the more underrated contestants. He might not post, but when he does, it's.. probably an article. 2Pacalypse- rounds out Group A--will his BroodWar brethren come to vote for him?
Next we have the pretty boy group, with Maxim's Gamer Girl Contestant Hot_Bid, Epoxide and his apparently luxurious hair, Pandemona the football king, and GameHeart and his beautiful Obs thingy battling it out to see who's the most attractive.
Group C is another difficult to predict bunch, with 3 older timers Plexa, Rekrul, and baller facing off against Zerg wunderkind blade55555. Will experience trump youth? Will being an admin count more than being a troll? Or will blade55555's contributions to saving Zergs from tears emerge victorious?
EXCEPT DUE TO TIE BREAKERS, Plexa is actually ahead of Hot_Bid, and switches places with him. He got 30 more posts, plus he got mad at me. At least we get Hot_Bid vs baller now, mirite? Also no way am I rewriting that preview so now everyone knows about my totally arbitrary tiebreakers
Man writing previews for so many groups is HARD
So yeah, D. opterown might be a rarer sight now, but he is supposedly in medschool looking for a cure for SC2 or something. CosmicSpiral likes Life so totally don't vote for him. Teoita is a mod, so I dunno if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But he's also Italian! Yeah I dunno if that's good or bad either. Rounding out this set is SC2John, a beloved strategy forum guy.
Group E now, wow we're more than 1/4 way! Chill, come on man who doesn't like Chill. Then there's BisuDagger, who likes to post pictures of Bisu. He'll probably flood this thread with Bisu, and I'd be disappointed if he doesn't. So if you like Bisu, he's the guy for you! They face off against NovemberstOrm, the hero of WCS AM, and Dakota_Fanning, who might not be as cute as Elle Fanning, but he made sc2gears so it's aight.
Group F features Holy Waxangel, 2 TL writers in Zealously and itsjustatank, and SinCitta, Lord of ATC LR OPs. Who the heck do I vote here? Probably waxy or else he might take away my pen. :o
Group G includes Nazgul, whose icon scares the heck out of me, like I think I'm going to get banned just looking at it, Emulator, and, for some reason, ninazerg and kiett. WHOA. zaMNal knows who he's voting for.
Next we have H, where we've got NeoIllusions, honestly I've got nothing on him, stuchiu, who everyone loves, The_Templar, who might be schizophrenic, and Conti, every streamer's favorite guy.
Another strong group is Group I, with two well liked writers in Heyoka and monk. salle and juicyjames, with their behind the scenes but oh-so-important contributions, will hope to bump off their more famous opponents.
OK we're a little more than half way there, UGH
Group J has KwarK, and if you've ever been in an argument, good chance it was against KwarK. disciple's in this too, and who doesn't love an island sunset? Wintex, everyone's favorite Bomber fanatic rounds out this group. Oh yeah there's Serejai, who got here by bribing people with HS Beta Keys. I guess you can vote for him if you like beta keys?
Our next group is somewhat of a mystery. Fionn heads the group, but he's migrated to LoL and lost his passion, even for Polt. R1CH is in here too, and if you don't know who R1CH is well then gtfo. SirJolt, who has the classiest name on TL, is here too, as well as strategy guy vaderseven. Not the most famous and contemporary names, but big contributors too. We might have a dark horse in here.
And now, Group L, which includes lichter, which was totally not on purpose. I promise! There's also Yango, Torenhire, and Grovbolle. They contribute stuff, yeah. But Lichter, man!
Back to some objectivity with M. Seeker is in here, and if not for him every Korean would be Faceless. DarkLordOlli, aka Lois, might be TL's biggest HerO fan. He stalks him a lot. He also beat my baneling busts so he is totally uncool. WAIT WHAT SAYLE IS HERE TOO? If you followed BW and Proleague during its latter years, then you will still remember Sayle's voice with fondness. Come back sayle T_T. Artist extraordinaire shiroiusagi, is in this group too, and this might just be our Group of Death.
Group N will definitely be tightly contested, with #1 Canadian Dodgin, KT Fanboy and King of MS Paint BLinD-RawR, strategy man TheDwf, and somewhatnotaspammer lolfail9001.
In our penultimate group, we have KristofferAG, who wants nothing more than to be famous, Torte de Lini, who works for shady underground secret organization Clauf, fusefuse who does liquipedia stuff sorry I don't know, and TheBB, Boy Genius of Aligulac.
AND FINALLY, in our last group, we have KadaverBB. If you've ever been banned, good chance it was KBB. There's also Asha`, who plays Dota2 now . They'll go up against wo1fwood, our very last qualifier, and Die4Ever, the brilliant mind behind the Blizzcon qualification predictor thread.
And there you have it folks. Our Round of 64 groups! No fucking way I'm previous Ro32 btw. >.>
Time to make a case for yourselves guys!
