WCS 2012 was definitely not awesome

Edit: or at least not in any way even remotely as awesome as non WCS 2012 or WCS 2013

I think WCS 2012 could have been awesome if it had been its own thing and not tacked onto NASL finals, MLGs, DreamHacks and other stuff. Stand-alone tournaments would have improved presentation and quality; I remember WCS NA and US having problems with player fatigue and overscheduling, and players dropping out of the parent tournament in order to focus on WCS.

Little disheartening that people aren't taking the article itself more seriously over making a remark on Idra.

Well, the article, I think, is hard to say a whole lot about. To me, it's just a reaffirmation of the opinions I already have.

Moreover, this is the internet. I don't know where you thought you were going when you came here, but you should know that the most obvious aspect of any post (in this case, IdrA) is going to get the most attention.

I didn't realize that some Koreans would be grandfathered in. That is a disappointment, I was so excited.

I actually would have preferred if Blizzard stood their ground and didn't region lock at this point.

Blizzard didn't listen to so many calls for a region lock before WCS 2013, most of whom (including me) told Blizzard it would lead to WCS AM and EU being full of Koreans, and to decide not lock the regions.

Now, lo and behold, the regions are full of Koreans, and Blizzard is doing what so many wanted prior to 2013, and lock the regions.

This change of heart reveals massive incompetence on Blizzard's. The fans asked for something, and someone at Blizzard, decided that region locking wasn't necessary and couldn't foresee the absolute obvious. It wasn't like the idea that Koreans would dominate was some secret or surprise result, many predicted it. And SC2 suffered, especially the foreign scene, as a result. Very disheartening that such incompetence exists.

Had they stood their ground and made the argument the level of play was better, at least they wouldn't admit to such incompetence.

When are people who can actually listen and think critically going to be employed by Blizzard?

wait so you sided with region lock at the beginning (fair enough)
but since blizzard didn't for 2013 and isn't going completely full-out on it in 2014
you would rather they kept their previous stance... because somehow it's incompetent that they didn't recognize the complaints at the beginning of the year and also incompetent that they aren't standing their ground after the year's passed?

Short and sweet. Wouldn't mind a bit more detail, but I guess people's attention span is short these days.

I hope Idra continues to write. It suits him well and people will listen.

I think foreigners should still have to beat some koreans if they want a bunch of money and an invite to the global finals. Maybe not all koreans but some would be nice. Or someone other than TB (but not blizzrad) needs to make some tournaments for only NA players. I for one want to watch a foreigner EARN his spot, not be given one and then get crushed. It saddens me greatly that some NA players arent willing to practice because "it will be too hard" or "ill just lose to a korean anyway". cmon guys...

but didn't they change the prize pool so it's more money in korea?

also it's a bit bold of you to be talking about how much of these people's personal lives they should sacrifice for starcraft...

I dont think I understand fully what you mean. IF someone wants to be a professional gamer they need to put in the time. I dont want some NA scrub to make tons of money when other people who do dedicate thier lives to SC2 dont get anything. I dont wanna watch someone who doesnt want to dedicate time to thier "job".Blizzards job isnt to give handouts to NA players for playing the game. If someone wants the money they are free to practice and earn it,but no one will just give them money.

Only really for first place, you still make an extra $1k for Ro8 in EU/AM over Ro8 GSL.
