Did I miss this announcement after IEM?

according to twitter all he announced was 3 weeks of streaming from the EG house before his contract expires.

So I assume this WCS will be his last tournament. I hope he wins and reconsiders. A guy can hope

Correct me if I'm wrong but he didn't stream anything yet and will still retire.
If i understood correctly he'll stream until the 15th or after ?

I think he's made enough money and is ready to move on. No reason for him to delay it anymore plus he can always come back whenever he wants.

If you take six months off, coming back is pretty hard.

I think it will be really sad if Stephano is the only foreigner with enough WCS points to qualify for the global finals and doesn't go because he's retired. Depending on how the next week or two goes, he could lock up enough points to pretty much guarantee year end top 16 even without playing anymore.

I find it quite funny how everybody accepts Stephanos decision to go study, says it is a good move etc. I don't understand it, if I was that good at a computer game, widely known with tonnes of fans and earning decent money I would never throw it away to be a doctor.

Don't think I will ever understand that.

Because he's planning his future? You think he can be a professional Starcraft player forever?

I'm pretty sure he said plenty of times that he doesn't enjoy playing anymore, he just enjoys winning and likes money.

Don't think I would devote my life to something that I don't enjoy.

As a doctor he will make more money than he does now which he seems to care about the most. And i dont know if he wants to be a doctor super badly but he always seem to not care about progaming he just used it as a way to get money. Also he always talks about having home sickness so obviously he doesn't like to travel for long period of times which is what progaming is made out of. Hours as a doctor are more defined depending on what kind of doctor he will become.

Say you get a great run/career and the game stays interesting and popular for 10 more years (which is already unrealistic).

What do you want to do when you are 30 years old? There is no way you'll be set for life with your sc2 earnings.

I think for NA/EU players it's wise to get a degree at the proper age to fall back on later.

Well too many replies to respond to... You definetly cannot be a startcraft player forever, however there are other options in the esports industry.

I do agree that planning for your future is a good thing, however it is not 100% important to have a degree to succeed, there are alot of jobs that you don't require a degree for. I personally think society puts too much importance on university education.

And it is obvious money is of upmost importance to Stephano, and it is my personal opinion that having money as the most important thing in your life is bad.

But obviously Stephano and myself are different people; if he really wasn't enjoying himself playing SC2 and is really going to enjoy being a doctor (lol something I can't really imagine, massive amounts of study so you can get a job with horrendously long hours and massive stress all so you can earn an amount of money that far surpasses the amount of money you need to live comfortably) then good on him.

Pretty good move for him , for people who don't understand why , that's because you can't not be a pro gamer forever , at some point you need to think what you will do in your life and so on.....

He did really good in the wol era where mass investors were used to , Zerg was the best race back here and he played the style nicely !! But the exp out and Zerg are more hard , I think you guys need to think about that too !!

That's a big reason for him to leave I'm thinking , he gains way less money now that before !!

Don't get me wrong , he a good player , but let face it , the Zerg were easy mode when he was at the top , I'm sure if he practice hard he can do good in this exp too ! That's just more hard , and we will never know because he ''retire'' .

gl to him and again , that a realy good move from him !!

Well, he is going to study the real stuff, not medicine anyways.

Have you considered the possibility that being a Doctor is about helping sick people rather than about earning money? People can get job satisfaction by actually making a real difference in people's lives and Doctor's certainly make a difference.

Smart move but still a loss for the community, now who will they turn to seeing as there was no foreigner near him in skill level... who knows. But Smart nonetheless.
In this world we are all alone, only through the ultimate belief of friendship and trust can we even for a moment create the illusion that we are not alone.
