Just saying a little fishy.
She can just flash her iron ring. You're never supposed to take it off, so it should be visible on her hand as she streams.
Is this for real? Sounds like some fantasy guild of smiths bullshit.
Never heard of it. I don't know if it is an American thing, but if so, I've never spotted one on my American colleagues. Maybe it's a college boy thing or he's just trolling.
Yes, female engineers are rather rare. They do exist though. Stop with the sexist trolling of her; asking her questions in chat, really? As if she has any obligation to answer you. Grow up.
Edit: apparently this thingie with the iron ring is real. It seems to be a Canadian tradition. Link
In the end how good or bad this pick up is all relates to what they do with it. Obviously if she can improve to a true pro level she's useful in that respect. If she can't is she willing to be more of an Incontrol style personality for the team rather then a serious player? Won't take long to figure out what she's capable of with team support if she's playing full time.

Now then, if anyone has ANY other reason as to why she would be picked up, please reply to me, because as I see it this is 100% the reason.

Theres too many people making posts like this. Did you even read the OP? She didnt join Quantic proteam, she joined their academy where other HIGH MASTERS have alos been invited to join. Its a school to train players who they feel might have that special something and just need a bit of drive and top level talent to help. Stop saying shes the team mascot, or that they only want her for stream ratings.
Seriously its like no one understands whats in the OP.

Well, essentially this.

The reason she is picked up is essentially a sexist one... Most of the posts in this thread have been "pretty" ... WTF does that mean to her accomplishments? Did they just hire a pretty girl to showcase their team? Well the obvious answer is yes... Why is InControl still in EG? He is a funny, charismatic guy who sponsors their product as such; he even admits to not being the best player but he tries (which is admirable) but he, as well as us, know he is a marketing guy and if this is her role then fine but don't guise it as "training to be the best"... If you want that, start at top 50 GM, not high to middle tier masters, it's exhausting.
Anyone who disagrees with me be prepared to bring it to brawn because I see any pick up (as I mentioned earlier Flo) as an utter disrespect to women in general and only worsening the gap of sexism between society and the online community.
You should be given a chance based on results/skill and not on whether you have breasts that nerds find attractive, this is a disgusting disrespect to women and I apologize in advance to her if she ever reads this but if she can't see there are hundreds if not thousands of more deserving players and she's being picked up over them because she happens to be female then I don't know what else to say because, frankly, it's true and Quantic should feel the brunt of the community for hiring based on sexual desire of males and sexist notions rather then true talent and skill.
I want to live in a community where we see a girl brought onto a team and she happens to be top 10 GM and stomping everyone in sight... Sexism and inequality starts when you hand special treatment to one or the other gender, it's not an excuse to hire a male because he has a penis so it shouldn't be an excuse to hire a female because she has tits and gamers like them, skill should trump all and she lacks it.
Now you can argue perhaps that there aren't nearly as many females and she represents the best of the females out there (in the pool of pickups) to try and bolster the female scene but is it a good way to encourage them to basically say "well you don't really have to be good... Have a nice smile and get into mid-high masters and you'll make it!". That's a great shadow to put over all females trying to enter the scene, be a sexual symbol and mediocre and get in easier then everyone else...

The fanboyism is strong with this one...or just trolling..not sure , but no where was he sexist/insult Incontrol. He was basically stating true facts, teams that usually pick up females are for PR purposes, not in all cases but in most, not sexist at all. Sorry for the rude tone, no need for me to be that aggressive. Since cheaters/hackers have been recruitd by teams before it's not a bad idea to bring up the question.
This was brought up to me yesterday by a very famous sc2 anti-hacking detective who led to the capture of many famous hackers We've deduced that the Terran using Kaitlyn is in fact a known hacker named "Nerfy" and my player is innocent and clear of all charges for full details you may PM me if you wish.

She's a young attractive female which will draw in viewers and attention to the team and therefore sponsors. I know nothing of her abilities, but this alone is reason for them to pick her up.
Looking right now I see she's got 400+ viewers which is more than Dragon has and I think he's GM on KR. Not the numbers stephano pulls, but views are views!
why does it draw in attention though? i personally have never understood it. Is there really that many virgins out there that want to see a pretty girl play a game they love? Are people generally lonely? i dont get it

I agree. There's definitely something going on here. Is she actually Canadian? I haven't found records of her going to university nor her birth record. I don't think we should accept this one unless we get to see the long-form birth record. Unless I see credible, undisputable evidence that she's ever born, I'm going to assume she's a bot and that Quantic has just found a picture of a pretty girl on facebook and used that for publicity. I mean, why would they want to pick up a low Master's player (actually, she's only silver. I know that for a fact because I just made it up) when they could have picked up StarDust who's had much better results in GSL than she has or ever will have in any possible reality (I know this for a fact as well, because she's a girl, so she can never become good - and this is in no way a sexist comment). It's obvious that Quantic is just fishing for publicity with this facebook picture bot that sucks at SC2. Man, if I'd had female genitalia, I'd be the captain of any proteam I could ever wish for, because girls have totally taken over the entire esports world so that nothing depends on skill anymore.
[/sarcasm]
Good luck to her! I hope she tries to be active in tournaments and stuff. It's great that teams pick up promising female talent, but it's a shame that they're not that active in tournaments. But then again, perhaps that's because there aren't really that many open tournaments in North America...
I really like how she (a Canadian) calls Scarlett (another Canadian) her favourite foreigner. It actually tells a lot

Excuse me? I can find quotations if you'd like of InControl stating that he was never comparable among the best of the best ... He stated very clearly he is the marketing guy, he sponsors his team and he loves his job but he never really got good enough at the game as he wanted to.
Secondly before you dare insinuate im sexist do go on to explain to me how I am so, is it equality that she was chosen over hundreds if not thousands of other males who deserve position over her if not just on a skill basis? Is this what you call equality because she's your 'favorite'?
Before you start flailing words and deciding they have any merit do explain your position clearer then 2 paragraphs and calling me ignorant, firstly because ignorance is a lack of knowledge (unless you're using it as uneducated which I'll be adoring the explanation as to how that is) such that you were using it as a misnomer and secondly because you're blatantly wrong, give us your theory as to why she was picked up if not for her attraction and do tell me that the pages are not littered with "pretty girl"/"attractive"/"good looking" as if this holds any merit over a players ability to be signed, but wait she's a female, seems acceptable to look at her as an object..
Your only argument was that Geoff was top 50 GM (might need a stats check, I remember in NA he was in GM but top 50? and in KR he was never GM if I recall correctly) and that had nothing to do with ANYTHING or any case I might have made against the signing of this player who is at best mid masters. Also as an edit, I hold the highest respect for Geoff as both a player and a person and I'm not afraid to say it (nor would I be haha). He's the reason I watched SotG and the reason I stopped, he is why I'm so engrossed in RollPlay and why I watch EG tournaments even though I personally never really enjoyed their matches, he's why I own EG sponsored gear. In no way did I ever insult or disrespect someone who I fairly likely idolize as an individual for how many hours he puts in to keep a float an industry that is always on the fault line of an apparent approaching earthquake to set it off the scales. Let's not mistake honesty for insulting please.
If you think equality starts and stops in hiring girls for their 'personality' and never for their skill (as I said with the exception of Scarlett) then I fear you either A) think girls will never be as good as guys at games so they deserve 'special treatment' which in itself is inequality or B) somehow have the delusion they hired her for her 'skill' as a mediocre mid masters player that will one day rise to the top and beat Flash without proving herself against mediocre NA players on a mediocre ladder.

Glad someone else thought that as well, I re-read to clarify but somedays I feel like I'm the only real feminist that exists... I argue for equality, not subjectivity and special treatment, girls don't need me to be their hero or hold their hand nor do they need special get ins for team's to PR for them... It's like that thread that just opened up where a girl always wears high tailored shirts because everytime people comment in the 'comments' about her breasts... This is what we have with females in the industry, this illusion that they're there for us to gawk and fap too when they deserve the same respect we give males, they deserve equality and not subjectivity, no matter how flowery and kind it looks... She is being given special treatment, it's time we realize this hurts female progression in the industry.
Added a spoiler, in reflection and a discussion with someone I've not so much as changed my opinions as I have thought perhaps this isn't the right avenue for discussion regarding them although I will admit I feel some sway. This will be the last post I make in reference to sexism however in this thread.
It's just insane to me how some people will argue foreign pros need their own protected tournaments and prize money and should generally receive more support than koreans at the same skill level on the one hand, and then be upset if teams do more for women who want to play at a high level.
For those who say there is no canadian female zerg... cmon! are you serious?! one hint, her ID start with S and end with T
now about kaitlyn, im very glad she enjoyed BW and is in masters, i just hope she doesn become the "quantics pet" something like slayers, i DONT WANT by any means insult her or something like that, i just hoping that she will take this seriously and dont be fooling around relaying on the fact that shes a woman
