Wait....this is too epic, I don't quite get 100% what is happening...

Basically Blizzard is creating a partnership with Kespa, ESL, MLG, GOMTV, OGN, etc. to hold world championship in 2013, am I correct? Sorry, this is so epic I don't quite understand what is going on ><

If so......then surely this is the EPICEST event in the history of esports??
Regarding the imbalance, hilarious to see Zergs defending themselves....

Other tournaments will be free to carry on with their own competitions, so long as their broadcasts do not overlap with WCS events.

The OSL? I think it will be your choice - Artosis is available but Tasteless will not be, and of course Doa is available as is Montecristo.

We'll have to wait until after GSL to find out for sure.
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

I will wait until I see more information, but I will definitely say that anything which dilutes the prestige of Code S participation is a stupid move.

how? they aren't changing Code S at all?

Perhaps I'm misreading or misunderstanding it, but aren't CodeS/OSL/MLG/ESL essentially becoming the feeder events for WCS with points available at all legs, equal prizemoney and choice of region?

Hence it's almost guaranteed that a number of quality Korean players will opt not to participate in a stacked GSL/OSL, but instead chase money and WCS points in a weaker field in Europe/America, i.e. diluting the strength of Code S.

I don't mind watching MLG/Dreamhack level events occasionally, but I'd rather watch the best of the best.

Code S is now WCS. This Code S that is starting tomorrow is now WCS. There is no choosing WCS over Code S as it is now the same thing.

Call it whatever you like, it's still a promoted, diluted competition which is what I'm against. They have the choice of which region's WCS they will play in. If you don't think Korean teams/organisations will sit around and assign players, or squads, or even entire teams to specific events, then I think you're being very unrealistic. I'm sure you can see how such a practice will affect the quality of each event.

Am I misunderstanding or does this mean Gom will now only hold 2 GSLs per year? What would that mean for Tasteless & Artosis?

Hahaha. It's happening already.

Everybody can already forecast the situation.
NA WCS will be heavily dominated by the Code A/B Koreans.
It is basically free ticket for Koreans.
KR WCS will be so stacked with Kespa/ESF players.

Sundance saying there is some " big names " means there could be a few Code S Koreans.

If you are in Code A or Code S, you can't play in the WCS NA

If they could switch regions whenever they wanted, i could see your point. But they can't. They pick it at the start of the year. All Code S/A players are already locked into WCS KR as well. The best of the best will still be there.

Simple solution: Blizzard bars all Koreans currently in Code A or Code S from dropping out of GSL to change regions. Code B Koreans are free to do as they please, but the best of the best should still play in GSL/OSL/WCS Korea.

So wait can you be in Korea and play WCS NA? cause that would be an issue. If you have to be there in order to play then it's fine. Not a lot of Koreans can get to NA,live in a house and play for a whole year.

Awesome news.
To get so many different organizations to come together is a impressive feat.
And its not like they failed with the prize money either. Makes much more sense to spread it out in between seasons, that way NASL/Dreamhack and other smaller tournaments won't get totally shafted cause people will still care what they have to offer when it comes to money.

gsl and ogn will both cast all three.

Q: How will the the Korean broadcasts work for OGN/GomTV?

A: The two broadcasters will take turns holding the WCS Korea tourneys. OGN will receive feed from GomTV, but use their own casters. In reverse, GomTV will receive OGN's feeds and use their own casters when OGN runs the studio. Doa and montecristo to do casting for OGN, Tastosis for GSL.

You go from like 64 people qualifying for national WCS finals, to having no reason to not expect to be essentially competing in the Korean nationals. Even if you do well one year, you have no idea how many more Koreans will be in your region the next year. With such a lack of predictability/certainty, I'd have to figure there's way less of a reason to play now.

All of this talk is simply making me more curious about WCG. Is WCG having a tournament this year? It would be a novel idea to see a South American region where the players have actually been there before and some might even live there. I want to play online poker but it's banned in the USA region. Can someone tell the government I choose the "other region." Thanks. That's sweet how the world works like that. O wait, it doesn't, like ever...

Incontrol on Live on 3 already said there's been talk in the house of someone like Jaedong playing in NA. No idea if this was a serious discussion or just throwing out various ideas that could happen.

Wait, Blizzard's gonna pull the plug of any big non-WCS tournament that dares to broadcast during WCS events? wtf

Way to destroy any notion of competition and ensure your event's total domination. Not that it wasn't going to dominate the scene anyway, but they just want to be certain that no community or independent project comes out and overshadows them.
