Well, man o' man. What can I say?
I love this community so much, but this game...
I can't help but feel this is a bit too complicated. The forces at large are directing their attention in the wrong places...They should focus on influencing the game state (better maps, better design), more than trying to create a unified system...at this time, I don't think this is what the game needs.
But then, that's always how I've felt.

that means less money overall for koreans through "their" tourneys Korea will probably be getting about the same amount (or a bit higher) as current GSL seasons, but the NA and EU scene will be receiving a shit ton more money. well i dont get it then. as far as i understood: EU WCS NA WCS KR WCS (gsl +osl) all of them get 3 seasons that makes 9 in total. that would be like 170k for each region each season but without the season finals and the overall final. the only logical conclusion i can make out of that is that every gsl season will get way less money or the 1.6 million is only for the 3 season finals and the overall final. Blizzard might not be the only sponsor of GSL/OSL.

Totally sucks. no it won't, weekend tourneys remain the same so long as they don't overlap with the seasons But weekend tournaments won't matter much now. Why spend a weekend playing for NASL when next weekend you got a huge WCS game to prepare for? Assuming the schedule is like that.

Totally sucks. not necessarily. Regular MLG is separate and now gives the additional incentive of WCS points (just less of them). We could still see the MLG regulars at Anaheim I thought there is no more regular MLG...

sounds like leagues LCS, blizzard years behind again, at least theres effort

Blizzard has been at the top of pc games for almost a decade, best quality products, really caring about their titles in a long term. But not only is the quality of their games heavily falling behind expecations, their competitors in E-Sports are outpacing them hard, while Blizzard should be the flagship comany of gaming, that's driving E-Sports with innovation and passion. Ok, their product is still the best RTS game, despite having major design flaws gamewise and in their battle.net, but it's hard for passionate Starcraft players to see other games blossoming, while Starcraft is no longer the torchlight. Just a normal game among many others. E-Sports needs more innovation and competition within itself to become as big as everyone wants it to be. Not mediocrity.

I'm kind of sad that the team leagues are getting shafted aside.

Yeah, that's good point.
Blizzard will help sponsor GSL/OSL but I assume other sponsors will remain (so unless Blizzard can decide what tournaments have what prize pools, I assume prize pools will remain at least the same for GSL and OSL).

well i know gsl etc has sponsors, but they said all regions will kinda have the same money and gsl and osl count as WCS (which has 1.6 million overall as stated today Oo). so i am kinda curious about the overall money now^^

$$$ for a 2-3 day event.

You could say the same now for every Korean who goes to MLG when they're playing in the GSL.

I'm going to assume that NASL is dead, WCS is taking the evening time slot on weekdays, the time NASL used to run during. They're not involved with WCS at all. They haven't announced their plans for a new season and season 4 ended 4 months ago.

GSL and OSL aren't restricted to just run the WCS tournament as well.
|
So does this mean that no foreigners will ever go into GSL again? Why would they ever want to be in the korea WCS if they can live at home and play their WCS.
Contributed to why Stephano left?

In OP:
The GSL's Code-A/Code-S/Up/Down format will be the base format for all the regions, though there may be some region specific tweaks for America and EU. EU and NA will be held online during the regular season, and send top finishers to the live season finals. Players will earn points for performances during the seasonal leagues in addition to some qualifying non-WCS tournaments, with the top placemers going to the finals at Blizzcon.
There was also confirmation of this by Slasher on Live on Three.

and the scheduling stuff was always an issue with GSL/GSTL, and people still played/travelled pretty well

So EU and NA will do the WCS thing online with only couple Koreans, who would want to watch that? And they get the same amount of seeds as OSL/GSL to the WCS finals. .......

I would say expect foreigner seeds into GSL to be over, some might try to qualify in KR like Naniwa or something.
