So does the the 1.6 mill include GSL+OSL+MLG prizepools?

edit: nvm seems so. Mixed feelings. We'll see how it works out.

Yeah, I feel like Canada and Sweden are probably the most hurt country-wise by these events. Top SC2 countries that won't get any special treatment: Canada won't get events and Sweden's Dreamhack will now be 2nd-rate event.

who is to say Canada won't get a WCS NA final?
WCS NA is MLG, right, so unless MLG makes their first CA event. Sure, I hope they do.

Blasphemer! Dreamhack will never be a 2nd-rate event.

It kinda is. It will get some WCS points, but fewer than the major events like MLG/ESL/GSL/OSL. And all eyes will be on WCS.

From what I understand GSL and OSL are only different in name now and it's going to work the same way it does from one season of GSL to the next. In other words, top 8 automatically qualify for next season's Code S/Premier league for GSL/OSL whichever one is next, the rest will come from Code A/Challenger league through ro24 matches and up-and-downs etc.

that's exactly it

so 2013 gsl season 2 becomes wcs kr 2013 season 1, osl becomes wcs kr 2013 season 2 and gsl season 3 2013 becomes wcs kr 2013 season 3. 2013 gsl season 4 is independent of wcs?

I think you're totally wrong, dreamhack has built up a reputation and you can't get people to turn away from it just by announcing something else that has a lot of money. It's not like League where there was nothing built up without the developer before LCS. Dreamhack is still going to get an insane number of viewers for their live event.

It's a brand that people won't ignore, just like MLG and GSL.

so the 1.6 million in pricepool will be spread through all of wcs?
that means 3 gsl's (if you count osl as one too) cant be the norm of 160k each, cause every region will be equal + the season finals + the grand final.

that means less money overall for koreans through "their" tourneys

Korea will probably be getting about the same amount (or a bit higher) as current GSL seasons, but the NA and EU scene will be receiving a shit ton more money.

Really struggling to resist the urge to gripe about this announcement...

I will wait until I see more information, but I will definitely say that anything which dilutes the prestige of Code S participation is a stupid move.

This region lock will make it more difficult to see your favorite player attending your local tournaments.
Say goodbye to taking pictures with SaSe and Stephano in America.
Say goodbye to MKP vs DRG finals at MLG.

Totally sucks.

This announcement has lots of pros, but cons is that Dreamhack and NASL got shafted, though Blizzard says Dreamhack will play an event in this as well. A lot of countries got shafted as well, including SEA, Australia. Canada, not really because we never had a major event here aside from NASL.

I wonder how this announcement will affect tournaments. We already know that GSL is "no more" as GSL and OSL are the same now, and there will only be 3 more GSL/OSL seasons, instead of 3 GSL seasons and for example, 3 separate OSL seasons. At least we still have GSTL and ProLeague?

well i dont get it then.
as far as i understood:

EU WCS
NA WCS
KR WCS (gsl +osl)

all of them get 3 seasons that makes 9 in total.
that would be like 170k for each region each season but without the season finals and the overall final.
the only logical conclusion i can make out of that is that every gsl season will get way less money or the 1.6 million is only for the 3 season finals and the overall final.

not necessarily. Regular MLG is separate and now gives the additional incentive of WCS points (just less of them).

We could still see the MLG regulars at Anaheim

so instead of two individual leagues in korea we're getting the same tournament being ran by two different organizers taking turns with the seasons, 3 more this year and 4 next year.

not sure if I like that as much as both gsl and osl, oh well.
