I'm really disappointed EU didn't go the way of DH. No offense to ESL, but a DH weekly would more than likely feature Apollo, who is the one of the top 2 casters.

Yea, it'd be unwise for Bisu to stay on the KR-GSL as KR-GSL is now GSL+OSL which means, he'll never get through qualifiers :<..

Bisu switches to NA-WCS.

Get's knocked out in the qualifiers by Shine who also switched over.

So a summary of the WCS holdings as I understand:

- The Korean, NA and EU SC2 scene will be united under the WCS banner as shown in the picture
- GSL/OSL, NA-GSL and EU-GSL contribute to the WCS point system, where the 16 highest ranked players will play to determine the WSC champion
- The three seasons will coincide with the tournaments. In Korea, GSL will be take place for two seasons (one running very soon and the one after summer), while OSL will be held in the summer as the point arbitrator
- Koreans and foreigners are not restricted by the regions, and can travel to every tournament to gain points.
- MLG and IEM are simultaneously independent of the WCS system, which allows Koreans and foreigners outside of their region to participate
- DreamHack, NASL, Iron Squid and other mid-tier tournaments will contribute to the point system, though at a lesser scale compared to the other regionals

I don't see how this can work in a fair system. Players who can go to these tournaments get to collect extra points. If someone who does worse in the main WCS events can get ahead of someone who's done better by collecting points at DH that the other player can't go to for some reason, that doesn't sound right.

Any players in GSL/OSL will be automatically in the KR region. So the top Koreans aren't to be worried about going to NA to start with. Add in the time factor of when the games will be played, the lag they will have, and the judgement from their peers (ie oh you're not even good enough to get into the WCS KR haha you suck mentality), I don't see the NA region being filled with Koreans. I'd be amazed if any Kespa player was in there.

So when do the NA and EU WCS leagues start?

Am I right that MLG and ESL will still be putting on their standard circuit events which will be independent of their respective WCS seasons this year? And anyone can attend those standard events?

You are correct

I am confused because it seems that GSL/OSL "standard" events will now become WCS events? And thus placing well in a standard GSL will grant WCS points? But doing the same in a standard MLG event will not?

GSL and OSL are merging with WCS KR.
MLG and IEM's standards circuits are not and their respective WCS events will be a separate thing.
However, the weekend MLG/IEM events will likely award WCS points as well. As will Dreamhack, NASL, Iron Squid, HSC, etc.

"merge" might not be the correct word imo. GSL/OSL will only serve as the qualifier, as in, they still function normally but high finishers will get the chance to play in a Blizzard tourney called WCS. Nothing change for the Starleagues except some random name-changing

And as much as $1.6M may sound, I believe Blizzard also saves a lot of fund by not holding their own qualifier (at least in Korea) like last year but rather assign it to GOM/OGN

NA-WCS Top 4 could end up becoming:
Leta, Bisu, Violet, Polt
That would be..something

By the way, did they release informations regarding who can play the qualifiers for the eu/na wcs ?

Maybe he dropped out to fulfill his ultimate destiny of hunting down Bisu in tournament qualifiers.

I think they said top 200 GM combined from EU/NA but that doesn't make a ton of sense so don't quote me.
Who's the bigger scrub, the scrub, or the scrub who loses to him?

How are the players handed over from season to season though? If it is totally separate, then why would Rain be seeded into GSL?
