Reddit Thread
Last year I made a thread to get map and map makers some much needed attention. It worked! So I thought I would do it every month for new maps. Please help the map makers by going to their thread and giving criticism. Check out the work in progress map thread as well. Last time I gave credit to the wrong map maker by mistake. Let me know if I screwed up!

Oh wow some of these look really really good! O_O I would love to see something like the first map in competitive play. I also like the green/white contrast on that map.

Fuck yeah. Thank you! Mapping scene has needed something like that for a very long time.
|
Looking fucking good. Wanna play on these!

World play has just been added to WoL right? If not, go to the main map thread for requests.

Mappers are awesome! <3 I fondly remember the TL mapmaking tournament (the one that popularized CloudKingdom), I would love to see that again, and see the winner get into map rotation again
|
Oh My! i couldn't believe it when i saw this new on my Facebook wall! this is trully a better way to get the maps spread than that one we have now (No way of doing it whatsoever)
For those that like the Light Roads on my map Cloud Atlas you should thank my little brother Santiago that helped me alot in making them!

All Our Sins Remembered by SiskosGoatee : Omagad that guy bitched for hours in a thread yesterday saying we dont need daybreak-like map then he make a daybreak-like map :D His map is holdable in zvp vs roach max, which was the point of the thread :D
Some of those maps look super great. Only 2 things I dislike : less minerals/gas on natural (but that's prolly because i'm Z) and islands. I honestly think races are not balanced around island (easier for protoss and terran to get them).

Which map? Even if protoss/terran can get them faster, it doesn't mean that they are bad for zerg. That's just one aspect. Besides we don't have thee data. It's hard to get people to play island maps because they are lazy to try something so different. Even that rocky pseudo island kespa map still accounts for standard openers in some way.

Oh come on gimmi a break! BW style maps? I think you mean Kespa maps. Kespa BW maps are all filled with chokes and other shit that in sc2 would be awful. Trust me, a made a real "BW style" hurp durp map. It sucks. Ideas from maps made for a different game should not be the main influence of your map even if that game is that greatest thing since sliced bread or some shit.
On a more constructive note, you map is not in here because you can't hold a third as protoss vs zerg. I don't think a map that forces protoss to all in every game is a good map. Sorry. =(
/end rage

Sorry. =( /end rage That map of yours... has nothing in common with Brood War maps. The dimensions and proportions are completely off, the excessive amount of unused space on the map is nothing like BW maps, and it doesn't have a shred of similarity with the map it claims to play out similarly to: Match Point. Hell, even the number of bases is completely off from Brood War maps; BW maps commonly had 10 to 12 bases for 2p maps, 12 to 14 bases for 4p maps. If a 4p map had 16 bases, it was because 4 of them were mineral-only. I think I'm the one who should be raging at this farce.
Protoss can't take a third on my map? Please provide me the replays of your testing this so I can see where I went wrong and can fix it. I ask this despite knowing the chances of you actually having played the map at all is close to zero. My first post was just made in the hopes that maybe you didn't notice the map or had a good reason not to include it, but this response is more ridiculous than I could have ever imagined.
I won't disturb this thread any further.

In addition, I don't you should add or remove maps so easily based on your own opinions alone... If it's just a thread for your favorite maps, you should call it that and probably put it in blogs. If it's really going to be a map and mapper appreciation thread, you really need some kind of voting or organization with a council, or some sort of qualification system to pick the maps. It could be as simple as.. just based on view and reply counts on the thread. I think that would be better.
BTW, I don't think Gemini Heights is that bad... It aught to be less controversial than All our Sins are Remembered or Djinn's Delight or Space Curcuit, and I think it has an easier third than Apollo.

cloud atlas looks pretty cool, same with df cyclone and apollo
|
Not a great month for maps but okay~
On your list only Yeonsu stands out as a really great map. Other than that I think Apollo matches could be fun to watch and Cyclone is solid. The rest is pretty meh imo.

All of these look really good. I love the aesthetics of Cloud Atlas.

A load of these are great, I follow maps in the map folder anyways, but showing my support in here too.
The only thing I'd like to see is Cloud Atlas' in base natural be mineral only as compensation or 1 gas less minerals.
I also love the weird mini paths into the backs of the naturals on the space map.

I was wondering how they'd work. Did you play the map? Do you know what size of units can pass through there? I really like that idea too. Forces you to build something there or put, for example, a Zealot in front of it to block it.

Why isnt this set of maps our ladder pool, seriously...

On January 26 2013 10:23 Unsane wrote: Why isnt this set of maps our ladder pool, seriously... Ehh, because they are all untested? Some of which are so weird they absolutely need testing. Some of which have glaring problems prima facie that first need to be addressed.
Ultimately, a lot about maps can't be decided by theorycrafting, you need playtesting. I often make maps, play them against friends and they find ridiculous holes in the to break them which I have to adjust.

What makes this BW style? It seems very SC2 style to me.
Also: lol @ people getting almost pissed at each other in this thread, and each one seeming elevating their opinion to factual status. Grow up, yeah, the author basically lumped a bunch of makes he or she personally liked into a topic, some other people don't like them and feel therefore they shouldn't be there. As someone who has the dubious honour of getting in. Seriously, it's personal opinion.
I will say this, including my map when it's untested speaks a dubious amount of audaciousness, the map throws all rules out so hard you really can't know if it has a modicum of balance without extensive testing.

These maps need to be implemented and tried on the ladder pool... especially that first one.
The first map is one of the best maps I've seen in a while!

Yeah, everyone is loving Yeonsu. Show some love in the map thread if you want.

<3 Apollo and Cyclone.
Always a fan of NewSunshine's work.
Wasn't expecting Yeonsu to be so popular when I first started making it!

Thanks for the post. I think I need to reskin Djinn's, it looks pretty good in-game but the overview looks a bit bland.

They all looks nice beside Djinn's Delight.
