Perfect time to pick up Apocalypse haha

Booya! Welcome to the team guys.

Alright, real talk about Gosu, since people seemed a bit surprised with some things/had questions in the other thread:
Yes, we still exist. We as a team have not been as actively performing as much as we'd like to be. Aside from Hwangsin's stellar top eight finish at the last MLG, our results are not quite there atm, and that is no one's fault but our own. Multiple players have had stints of inactivity, including myself. Some don't plan on returning, some do (like me). We are not giving up or anything, just rebuilding a bit.

You guys should re-establish your roster. future plans. Aim, etc.
I see a lot of Dota 2 stuff from It's Gosu right now :x

Damn, whenever announcements like this happen, I realize how little I know of the NA scene. Am I just living in the wrong timezone, or aren't there enough tournaments over there...? @.@

"It's Gosu Welcomes Apocalypse" sounds very ominous on the day the world was supposed to end

Congrats to Maximus and Apocalypse.
Apocalypse got shoutouts from so many players thanking him for being a practice partner. Glad to see he has found a team :D

Oh nice. Cool to see that the thread actually containing more information and discussion was closed instead of this one without importing the information. I'm just going to post the comment I was about to make in the other thread here:

As for the haters, I really don't get it. Fine don't like the guy but this is great for the scene. Maximus gets good practice partner and an organisation behind him to do extra content, etc and on the other end we have a NA team that gets a lot of exposure and they will grow and be able to support more NA players in the future.. the way I see it this is win win I think people don't actually understand how little money players make. For players who play hours a day and try to actually achieve something in the game and go unrecognized unless they win an MLG to have to watch all the "personalities" make all the money in the scene, what are they supposed to think? To be successful in this game has very little to do with skill. You want to know why there's no NA talent? Because even if you're as good as the Koreans; you won't get as much as they do from foreign teams. You won't get as much as casters. You won't get as much as personalities like MB. There's no point in playing this game. The only team that actually seems to understand that is complexity. They actually have a program to develop players and try to support them, other teams don't and then wonder why the player pool is so small. Why are the Koreans better? Because there's tons of team houses and even practice houses for lesser tiered players. There is a realistic way to support yourself through the game. If you're good you can have all of your living expenses paid for and focus on nothing but SC2. For a foreigner, unless you're incredibly outgoing and likeable with an expensive computer and sick internet to stream, you don't have any of that. You have to support yourself, know that you're probably not going to make any money from the game, and still have a positive mindset to play and practice just as hard. But even if you're on level with the Koreans they're going to make more than you for the simple fact that they're Korean...from foreign teams. It's a joke. e/ so I ask you, how is MB getting into a team good for anyone but him? How does recruiting a sub-tier Korean and a personality help the NA scene / players? MB doesn't exactly have a reputation of helping out the teams he's been on anyways. e/2 Then think of the teams like EG who pay some of their players over 100k a year. They have enough money to pay players that much and yet the vaaaaaast majority of foreigners are getting under $300 a month. It's such an idiotic system that is horrible for the growth of American SC2. You have tournaments paying casters more than the actual prize pool, you have rich teams just throwing money away that could go to developing SC2 in America like they have no clue. SC2 could be so much more and it wouldn't be hard to do yet you see all the things that make absolutely no sense coming from the people who matter. Take a 20th of what EG pays Stephano and you could literally pay for every NA players Salary who's on salary outside of EG/TL members. This guy has such a good point. The infrastructure of the SC2 scene is absolutely in shambles. There is literally no opportunity for anybody to enter the SC2 scene as a competitive player if they aren't able to beat the best players right from the start. There are no mid-level tournaments with a noticable prizepool without players who are able to fight the best in the world. There is actually no midlevel scene at all. You either can survive without any money until you are above the same level as other progamers or you won't be able to make it at all. Even being extremely good is no indicator of success. Lucifron has 33.000 $ earned in prize money while MaximusBlack has received 6000 $ of donations in the week he was "training" with DesRow. Up first I find it incredibly digusting of MaximusBlack to actually beg for money. Second just think of a scene in which every progamer is begging for money. That would be the most pityful thing ever.
For someone unknown there is NO reliable source of income in SC2. None. Regardless of the skilllevel. And this is because Starcraft 2 is an old boys club in which the well-known split the main pot between eachother. Every event has the same casters with the same players. I'm especially full of hate towards all the casters who drain tons of money from the scene with their medicore casting and can only survive because they make sure there is no opportunity for other casters.
People like MaximusBlack DO NOTHING FOR THE SCENE NOR THE COMMUNITY. As somebody said before MaximusBlack is actually investing into a LoL tournament. With his spot on a team he is actually consuming resources which could otherwise go to players who actually try to be competitive. But as I said every team he has been on has gone broke so far so that's the only good news. But if that is what people want to see they just have to stick with the consequences I guess. Most hilarious was the comment of this manager recently who wanted to regulate the scene even more and decrease the opportunity for new comers to enter the scene.

oh pickin up Apc too. Grats to both!

Most hilarious was the comment of this manager recently who wanted to regulate the scene even more and decrease the opportunity for new comers to enter the scene. There is a problem with the SC2 scene NA, but you describe the problem (imo) a bit inaccurately. The difficulty of the NA scene lies that there's basically no profit available for NA players/teams... NA teams can always find cheaper players (for their skill level) from Korea, NA players struggle because their tournaments are constantly dominated by koreans so there's very little chance for good Americans to make a big splash, and the vicious cycle continues. This isn't a fault of entertainers, which aren't really relevant.
The fact of the matter is that it honestly doesn't matter how good at Starcraft you are if nobody cares about you. No professional player in America can just say "but I just want to focus on the game!" because in America, there's no such thing as a professional player that doesn't market themselves - then they're just an amateur that plays at a really high level. People like MB don't deserve blame for making their path in the scene to where they are.
|
MB helps the community, he keeps the game interesting for casuals. A lot of these casual SC2 players would probably have stopped caring about the game if it wasn't for MB. This is obviously hypothetical, but so is everything anyone is saying.
Also, I bet you 90% of these trolls/haters haven't even watched his stream for more than an hour.

A lot of casters are actually 'bad'. If you have taken any classes on public speaking or done any sort of work with 'real' casters or people on camera/radio you would know how bad the 'best sc2 casters' really are. There are a few that are okay but most of them are pretty bad.

However, I thought you rather meant their knwoledge of the game. Because as far as the quality of their speech is concerned, what you said is even more true.
