i think Blizz got a bit lazy because BW was the top e-sports game and didnt really have that much competition and SC2 could just ride on the succes of BW. Suddenly LoL came out of nowhere and surpassed them, its time for them to step their game up.

Can't stand Destiny, but he's completely right. Sadly, the resistance Blizzard now puts up against the community and its complaints and suggestions makes me feel that this won't matter to them either.

I agree with Destiny. I don't think anything is going to change. Activi...*cough* Blizzard won't get their asses up for a game that is not guaranteed to be a success.

well Destiny argues that SCII is dying because it's too competitive, and people only like to play casual games i.e. LoL/DoTA but SCII is more casual friendly than BW, so shouldn't it survive? Should SCII be even more dumb-down?

LoL/Dota are actually not casual in the slightest. They have GIGANTIC learning curves and have horrible communities that rage at anyone new.

^ LoL does not have the craziest learning curve and the fact you get matched with newbies in your first games as well makes it very easy for you to get a good start going thus having fun in the game.

I was never a fan of Destiny's rageposts, but this one is actually quite different, very valid points throughout.

Making this thread isn't going to help much, considering how hard headed they were (and still are) about their disgusting, pathetic SC2 UI.

I mean, we STILL don't have Clans. And even getting chat channels took a community revolt pretty much.

I'm having an absolute blast playing Dota. It's UI is simply the greatest thing I've come across, period. I just hope Blizzard has enough fight in them to try and surpass Valve and Riot as they once did.

And that is only one of the problems.

I'm new to Esports and the whole scene. I only became interested when SC2 released, even then it took me a while to get really into it. I've watched some Dota 2 and I have a beta key, but I'm only half interested. LoL is just painful to watch, and I can't believe so many people want to watch it, let alone play it. These games exploded really fast and I think lots of people like Destiny are just mad that their favorite game (sc2) isn't as popular. Remember with most things in life, "the bigger they are the harder they fall". You say Brood War was popular for 10 years in South Korea? Brood War is an expansion to sc1. How long was that game out before it started gaining popularity? SC2 has just been out for 2 years! It has no expansion, apparently HOTS is still in "experimental beta mode". I think we all need to have a little patience and faith. LoL is not going to last, and SC2 has two planned expansions still to come. I have this problem in my personal life where you just want to be able to DO SOMETHING to change what is going on around you, but I've learned sometimes you can't do anything and you just have to wait and do little things that you can hope will have an impact later. I'm just gonna keep playing and loving SC2 for a long time I think. all I ever do is 1v1s and I find custom maps and games pretty boring, so I like the system in place.

I feel he says something completely right in that very few people actually are interested in 1v1. My lol-playing friends certainly weren't - playing random funky customs or team games with your friends is way more interesting. Now what do we have in sc2 ? Horrible maps for team games and the same old same old low quality customs that are all that ever gets played because Blizzard has no clue how to create an interface.

Now if it was only the sc franchise at stake i wouldn't care at all. But with sc2 being the flagship of rts games, i feel its current failure is a big blow to the genre i love.

Agree with most things. Most games end up being big deathball vs big deathball, whoever comes out ahead wins. Watching cheesy play at this point is more fun and interesting. I've also watched some HotS, and to be honest I'm not excited for it at all, and I play much more 1v1 than custom games. This is mainly because the "Arcade" system, like Destiny says, is just one big clusterfuck. Whenever I click on Arcade, I really can't understand what's going on that easily. Contrast that to BW, I ONLY played UMS. The "Arcade" part of SC2 can definitely use a lot of work.

For me, when I play it feels like a single player game plus an opponent. The community and social interaction in BNet2.0 is very poorly done. Clan support would be a step forward in helping with this. I think a cool feature would be a clan "ladder", which would work similar to ranked 5's in LoL. A clan of X amount of people can play against another clan of X amount in a team league format and play towards rankings in a clan ladder. There can also be an "Unranked" clan ladder just for fun. Lastly, there can be weekly clan tournaments on BNet and there can be cool rewards or something.

I've tried to defend Blizzard before, but after seeing HotS and the direction SC2 is headed, while LoL has hundreds of thousands of viewers and many more playing it, I'd have to agree with Destiny in that at the end of the day, Blizzard has the most control over the future of SC2.

Well if we keep on doing this and make ourselves heard they must do something. Why not twitter like catz said? just mass twitter for days and days! And enough tweets might just reach to them? Or just keep this thread alive and hope Blizzard comes in here and reads it thru

Since I didn't actually address Destiny's point in my previous reply, I'd just like to say that I completely agree.

If Blizzard doesn't completely rehaul their UI to something that the community actually wants in HotS I don't see a bright future for SC2.

I really disagree with most of this, especially HotS dying off when it hasn't even come out yet. A lot of this is over dramatic, and though he is right that Valve and Riot are doing more than Vivendi/Blizz for their respective games, the history of SC makes it the biggest. People in LoL (which here we usually refer to with contempt at their size) actually (I'm referencing the Oddone and CruzertheBruzer here) have said that SC2 is the original and the biggest, not to mention the most stable.
User was warned for too many mimes.

My interest in HotS has waned because of the old-school expansion model. I know that Legacy of the Void is coming out so playing this stop-gap expansion seems weird to me. I also do not like the idea of splitting the playerbase between those who own WoL and those who buy HotS. This issue will only get worse with LotV.

The expansion model used to make sense back in the day but in 2012 it seems silly. The way it should be:

- Once you buy WoL, you own the multiplayer portion and will receive updates as they come out.
- The multiplayer portion will be considered "done" when HotS comes out and will be iterated on at their discretion. (See TF2, Dota2, LoL etc.)

Just bring back the exact copy of Bnet from Warcraft 3: TFT. And i really MEAN EXACT COPY!

- Better chat interface
- Bnet tournaments
- Clan support
- Clan ladder
- Focus on team play
- Great custom games feature
- Better Bnet profiles with tournament W/L
- Cross-realm (server) play without need to buy second client

I'm sure I'm leaving some important ones, but cmon...

That single thing alone would bring a ton of people who left SC2 and also much more user friendly for the new-comers.

Well.

It's the beautiful thing about competition.

If only blizzard existed, they could get away with sucking, with no lan support, etc.

But there are other companies out there that will not have mercy at them for that.

I'm sad to see starcraft is dieing....

I stopped playing SC2 a year back to switch to LoL, I'm playing SC2 again now but nowhere near as much. I love the way Riot just handle LoL, new champion every patch, new skins, the report and honor system, champion spotlights, community spotlights, loads of youtube channels dedicated to top 5 this and that. It's so much better than SC2 in that regard.

And of course the IP/RP system, do you know how much of my playing is fueled by the rewards so I can collect new champions? Like someone else said earlier, there's just no motivation to playing SC2. For me I'm playing at the moment to get promoted to Diamond. But there's only so many leagues you can go.

Another thing about LoL, the spectator system. I can log on one day and literally jump into a professionals game and watch what's going on first hand. I can jump into my friends games and watch them. None of that in SC2. I think the saddest part is, that what the community are asking for:

How difficult can it be to implement simple things like this.

There are plenty of ways blizzard can make money in the current SC2 framework and more ways they can better the framework as a whole.. just some thoughts:

- paid name change (this should be an option on the website itself)
- paid model changes (I would buy the CE Thor in a second for $20)
- advertisement banners in the game (similar to bnet 1.0)
- release SC2 Dota and follow the same structure as LoL
- sell tournament "LAN license packs" to allow tournaments to play LAN mode
- more blizzard tournaments (make them PPV, just make it cheap, I would buy every one)
I don't have time to play with myself

Na, they get al lot of hate but tbh the whole video gaming indsutry has been on a downslide. Take me back to the late 90's when a class game was coming out every month. Really was spoilt rotten during that period.

Blizzard is like a car manufacturer who wants a share of the prize money from every race driver that uses their cars. Because of this they implemented artificial limitations into the game and this backfires now.

Blizzard also is somewhat stupid and thinks that making the game faster and faster will make it better; kinda like the sequel to an action movie having bigger explosions and more dead. That usually doesnt work so well ...

In an asymmetric game you just cant become too asymmetrically and the production speed boosts for the three races may speed up the game, but they also give certain races different advantages in different stages of a game while hindering others ... which is a terrible concept. Their introduction of "battlefield rearrangers" (Force Field, Fungal Growth) dont help either with balancing the game between the three races.

All in all they have changed too much from BW baseline and should have stayed closer to home. Improvements and advancement in technology is fine, but only when it makes up a sensible whole. SC2 doesnt do that and the knife's edge balance for many many units is really bad.
If you cant say what you're meaning, you can never mean what you're saying.
