It doesn't need to be different, it just needs to make Mech more mobile and more viable vs Protoss and Zerg. Having a cheaper, more massable Thor + battle hellion kinda solves that. Meching Terrans just need some way to deal with late game Broodlord transitions and hopefully a cheaper Thor helps. - Shredder was not really necessary anyway. Good removal. - Missile unit could be interesting, but if it's only meant to counter siege tanks and is worthless in TvZ or TvP, it's just an uninspired addition. Perhaps if can be used to hit Colossi and Broodlords as well. Also siege lines make TvT interesting, don't know why there's a need to change it. - Anti air spider mine sounds a little bit weird. I don't see why they're necessary as massing Thors seem to deal with mutas well enough (at least recently). Problem meching Terrans face these days are Brood Lord switches, and spider mines don't really seem to be an ideal choice to counter them. Regarding Protoss: - I absolutely despised the Replicant. It was the dumbest unit design ever. Good riddance. - Tempest now basically does what the Carrier does. Please bring back the Carrier and use the Tempest for something else. Maybe a melee tanky anti-air unit to counter Corruptors or something? - Mass recall on Nexus was and still is a horrible idea. Zerg: - I'm liking all the changes with Zergs so far. They've been receiving the most buffs, so hopefully there'll be a way to balance them though. - Also there needs to be a building to build the Viper. I think just getting it off plain Lair tech makes it a little bit too imba. I like the mineral eating to recover energy. It's interesting, although it's difficult to use them midway through battle. I agree with all your points. Regarding the Viper I think the reasoning behind making it available automatically at Lair tech was that it was the only mobile detection. Since they're keeping the Overseer I expect there will be a Viper Nest.

Yea no one saw THAT coming /sarcasm. All in all other than the fact that what they're trying to do with the Tempest could just as easily been done with the Carrier. Everything else sounds good in that blog post. I'm glad they're continuing to look at Terran mech.

The creep idea is nice but by the time you're willing to spend money on a Nydus it'll probably be useless. And the siege idea is redondant, I just don't see myself spending money for that. Maybe they can find a way to make these things work but there will still be the fundamental problem of Nydus Worms being insanely expensive.

I wonder what they'll do with the Overseer, the Corrupter, will the Viper have a 3rd spell, will they change Hydras further, what will they give Terran and Protoss...

Also, the zerg changes seem pretty okay, however it feels like they don't really know how to develop terran and protoss, so many experiments.

This gives the protoss army some real reach to force an engagement on their terms in the end-game. EDIT: Quoted the whole statement by request. Why not just fix carrier and keep the unit we all love which is supposed to fill same role.

Despite all the haters and whiners the game is absolutely dominating esports and getting bigger by the day. They are obviously doing something right, as we are all still playing ![]() Starcraft 2 is hardly dominating esports. Neither is it getting bigger every day. There is zero competition in the modern competitive RTS space. We are stuck with whatever blizzard gives us. You might say that it is because the genre is dead. Well the 2D fighting game genre was dead until Capcom released Street Fighter 4. The difference is, after SF4 proved the genre was still alive and could sell copies, other companies went ahead and released new 2D fighting games. Did the successful selling of SC2 move any companies to compete with blizz? No. It didn't. And it makes me very sad. The problem with the other RTS games is that people assumed that the old formula of gather resources build economy was too old fashioned and that people wanted games like Warhammer and CoH where one doesn't have to worry about economy management so much as just building units and fighting with them. Or they moved completely away from micro and focused totally on economy such as Sins of a Solar Empire. I was really hoping that after a successful launch for SC2 other developers would try their hand at making an "old fashioned" RTS game and competing for the space, but alas this has not occured. Companies would rather shit out the next FPS title and hope to ride on the CoD train than take the time to create and balance a competitive RTS.
