Giving terran ICBM's seem kinda harsh towards the other races would love to see nukes being abused more though maybe give the ghosts increased range to guide the missile.

So what's the point of the tempest? And what does the tempest do that a slightly tweaked carrier couldn't? I feel like an artist designed a cool ship model and now they are doing anything they can to squeeze it into the game, lol.

no replicant and shredder are good, and i'm glad they're looking into factory units, but mass recall so protoss can warp in somewhere, kill a ton of shit,t hen warp back home safely without suffering damage... sounds retardedly OP. recall worked in scbw because it came from a relatively slow, low hp, gas expensive, and mana expensive tier 3 unit that also provided cloak. having it on your NEXUS not only means you can use it to be offensive with little to no worries, but it also means now you can warp in to 1 place (versatility that every other race wishes they could have) to defend, THEN recall that same force to another location to defend. Multi pronged attacks will be even more herp/derp to defend for protoss.
I now have autographs of both BoxeR and NaDa. I can die happy. Lim Yo Hwan and Lee Yun Yeol FIGHTING forever!

I agree with this as well. I have no long legacy with the franchise of starcraft but after having played sc2 for almost 2 years now and followed bw scene immediate after i found it, also 2 years now, i am feeling the same way. The respected 'Starcraft' label made me buy it.

I think Protoss not getting the Replicant makes me just as happy as when I thought we would get the shredder. Although I do hope they can succeed in doing something with the factory like they are trying.

Not too hot on the "long range missle" idea though.

Looks like they wasted a ton of time and resources for the Blizzcon presentation and a lot of it won't have an impact on HotS.

protoss also needs more early option unit. Compare to Terran, Protoss only have 2 options.

mass gate all in, or macro.

I could well imagine there being a varying energy cost depending on the amount of supply being recalled. Or a very small area of recall-effect, or a limited unit amount, or no massive units, etc.. there are quite a number of ways to restrict recall abuse in the lategame. I see your point though.


I agree; I think it could be managed so that the zip-home recall isn't game-breaking. I think their rationale for having more recall potential is because Protoss often suffers greatly from its lack of mobility.

Plus, I do think players are getting better with staying on top of their chrono boosts, and so this shouldn't really be a big deal until late in the game (where the Protoss player doesn't have many sentries anyway, and it would be nice to have the possibility of running away if necessary, as Zerg and Terran armies are usually faster).


The deathball SHOULD suffer a lack of mobility. It has to have a weakness. Broodlords are slow, they shouldn't get a speed upgrade just because they lack mobility.


I don't just mean the traditional late game Protoss deathball. Even gateway units are slow in comparison to the lower-tier Terran and Zerg units. Plus the Protoss units have very different speeds, which makes a retreat annoying (the spellcasters get picked off quite easily).

The different movespeed is actually a good thing and there should be more of that.It rewards superior mechanical players that keep their units on split hotkeys and watch how they position them while moving in a group and right before a attack.

Protoss is just a huge cluster fuck of broken units right now,not OP or UP just broken as in they don't work in a good way and cause more problems than good things in general for the protoss and the balance of the game as a whole.I'm a protoss player and I stopped playing ladder for a while because its just boring to be a protoss right now.
From all of the races protoss needs a rework form the ground up and blizzard is dodging that bullet since the game came out and a lot of balance decisions that they made through out patches was to try patch and sow together the protoss as a whole.Its really really frustrating,the first thing that needs to go is the fucking colossus.

Blizzard has gained (another) 10 trust points for being awesome.
Though I kind of liked the idea of a T3 anti air capital ship that was weak vs ground on Protoss, because it could give the hydra and the viking more roles in vP, creating more strategies and more dynamics.

either way this seems very hard to balance around that
but the idea is cool.i like it

when they want to make the overseer cooler
just allow the changeling to burrow move without upgrade like a temp "underseer" with a shorter life like 90sec.
and attach them to the overseer so if he is arround he can live forrrever xD

Yeah this is just like the "Oh, corruptors are useless for the most part? Why don't we let them siphon money from enemy buildings" Are you fucking serious? That is the stupidest RTS mechanic I've seen in a long time. I'm really glad they know when to give up on certain ideas but some of the ones they're not backing away from are nearly as bad.

It just feels like Dustin Browder is using the Starcraft franchise so he can play out his bad fantasies of game design and unit design/roles and actually have people playing it. All this mess just feels more like some kind of Starcraft/Red Alert/MOBA cluster fuck.

Units that are copies of BW units but still not the good BW unit.

More gimmicky stuff that suits more in Red Alert and MOBAs (anti air spider mine? some wacky ass missile that makes mech even worse in TvT, that hook on the viper that is stolen from Pudge from DotA, you just don't need any timing and skill to hit your target, the charge upgrade on Ultralisk that you can find in like any MOBA game).

Still no words on the Warpgate mechanic and the worst unit ever Colossus.

BW is still very playable go back and play that. There is no way BW maniacs would have been satisfied with anything new that's why they are BW maniacs.

SC2 has been great fun to play and watch for me and I'm incredibly excited to see where HotS takes the game. It's not even in beta yet so there is very little to be gained from speculation and balance discussion, it's not going to be right.



Perhaps BW maniacs was the wrong term. I myself didn't even play BW, I was purely a spectator. Perhaps I shouldn't have drawn attention to the BW fans at all. My point doesn't change. We force ourselves as starcraft/rts/esports fans to swallow the pill of SC2 but if we remove ourselves from the force feeding and see SC2 as an independant game it's not very good. This is excluding all of the bnet 2.0 failures. Starcraft 2 was hugely successful on hype and hype alone. It was the sequel to one of the most successful PC games in history. It had one of the few gaming communities that has withstood the test of time and championed esports to incredible levels behind it before it ever released. We as a community enamored with starcraft culture have convinced ourselves into accepting SC2 as a great RTS, the next torch for 'esports' rather blindly.

I challenge anyone to think this game would be anything other than a medicore RTS title had it not been for the fact it's starcraft's sequel. Perhaps that's an unfair challenge, that it's too hard to remove the culture behind starcraft and the hype built up for the release but I think time will tell.


edit; to be clear (and fair) I think SC2 is better than a lot of PC games available, it's just not as good as it should be and the fact that the gameplay (and bnet 2.0) is largely unchanged after 2 years just reiterates my point.


lol wut? Hype would not stand the test of time. SC2 did. It has been for 2 years now and it's still going strong in Esport. Gameplay unchanged after 2 years? Are you kidding me?

Glad they removed the replicant, no crap that unit made 0 sense.

Also, for zerg I bet they remove burrowed movement banes and possibly ultras diving move.

Very underwhelmed by the swarmlord for zerg, vipe sounds promising, but we'll see. I bet abduct (is that the scorpion move?) gets removed as well.

Glad they decided to keep overseer, detection without overseer would have been horrible for zerg.

The colossus would be a tolerable unit if you had to actually "siege" it to make it immobile before it could start firing.

This... is glorious *drools*. And good, I liked the Thor and never liked the idea of Hero Thor.

Protoss get an air siege unit?Ummm, how about Buffing the Carrier?_? I also don't think the range upgrade has helped that much against Mutas. I'd rather have the Phoenix get the splash damage ability it had from the previews.

And wow, the Viper got a mineral harass ability. Sounds good. More types of Nydus? I will need to see them in action before I comment, I guess it has potential.

It can serve a splash damage role anti-air.

It also isn't crippled by marines, which is a big problem with the carriers viability in SC2. A ball of tightly packed marines (or even hydras) just shred interceptors apart, and if you give them enough health to survive that they become OP against everything else. The interceptor just doesn't fit within the SC2 engine with a lot of damage and firepower in tighter formations, BW obviously was different.
