Fair. If its a persistent troll, then let a judge hash it out.
the punishments for this kind of thing seem so out of wack though. in all these internet meets court situations the crimes are so poorly defined, and the judges normally illinformed that people get harsh punishments. if someone went to the police saying id been horrible to them, even with video evidence, i would barely get a slap on the wrists. probably a restraining order if i did it for months.

as many people stated, 7 years is a maximum sentence in these TYPES of cases, not something he'll get if court finds him guilty in this particular instance. when people talk legal stuff, they always phrase it that way, but in reality you get a slap on the wrist, learn your lesson and move on, doing community beneficial work as a punishment.

Ehh... not a big deal imo if she wants to go through with it. It isn't like the guy accidentally repeatedly harassed her... he knew he was being an asshole, and now he might ACTUALLY have to face a punishment, despite being behind a monitor.
To those saying, why not just ban him... it's probably because that isn't even a punishment. The guy harassing them can continue doing it over and over without repercussion. Once they take it this far, it will likely make him go "Oh shit, I am not invincible on the internet... and I may have to behave like a respectable human being."
As for 7 years... that seems VERY steep, but I imagine he wouldn't get 7 years because that is the maximum. Honestly though, I don't have much sympathy for him if his behavior suggests he should get jail time.

Piracy has everything to do with people not responding to consequences, even when we've seen how outrageous the punishment and penalties can be. You can't legislate manners in the United States, especially on the internet.

Legalistic equality has not seen a cultural shift to true gender equality, but it's a complex issue overall. I don't think it's fair to be characterised as some overprotective man defined by some pseudo-scientific idea of man as naturally protective. I tend to stand up against ridiculous behaviour on this forum if I'm in a particularly angry mood. Most of this relates to player/caster bashing and giving the low proportion of woman players I hardly think I'm some white-knight. I criticised the opportunities given to players like QuanticFlo because they are so blatantly non-meritocratic.
Anyhow, if people don't call out atrocious behaviour for what it actually is, then attitudes don't change. For a good example of cultural conditioning, look at the societal attitudes towards drink driving and how they have changed. At least in Ireland it used to be de rigieur to drive home while drunk as a skunk. It was 'the done thing' and nobody saw a problem with it, it took real effort for the practice to be as socially frowned upon as it now is, over years and years of government funded campaigns and grass-roots privately-supported initiatives.
Granted there is a case to be made about crying wolf racism/sexism or what have you. in this specific instance I was under the impression he was using Korean equivalents of cunt and other such pejoratives which are often applied in a misogynist manner. If wrong I stand corrected

It's different when it happens repeatedly instead of just once. It becomes personal. Someone is putting effort and heart into trying to piss you off and hurt you and those around you. To get your attention, steal your energy, over hours, over days, over weeks. In almost every situation, you will never be able to exclude them due to proxies, new users, they invent new ways to send you offensive messages through those around you, whatever. Few of us will be in a position where we can experience this first-hand, and for that, for you, I am glad. But some empathy for those affected by this would be in its place. Just because "everybody's doing it" and "it's just trolling, chill out" doesn't make it okay to be a douche. We are better off without them. People underestimate how much they are subtly hurting the community. Sure, you can learn to ignore them and most people will of course. But sometimes people are just too persistent. And that's where IP blocks reach their limit. If you have an option to eliminate the problem for good and show people that acting like a douche is unacceptable, why not? One thing is ignoring haters on a forum, it's outside your personal zone and you can distance yourself from it easy. But if someone harasses you in a stream chat you use daily with friends and strangers that you appreciate and love to interact with, it's something different. It's like you have an open house party with close friends and strangers, or if it's your work at some public place or a store, whatever. You don't want to exclude people, but when some fucker walks into your house and starts fucking shit up, you need to take action. Sure some people will say "well don't have your house open then" but certain people have ideals for the Internet and faith in humanity and appropriate social behavior. And that is where the conflict lies. "Hey this guy is only smashing your windows, it's cool, it's just a fucking window, chill the fuck out? You're a superstar so you need to expect people to trash around ur house sometimes!" hokaaaay, suuuuuuure..... ~~~~ Being able to sue or report people sending you offensive messages frequently over time sounds awesome. They are not worth anyone's time. Why bother with them if you can be with awesome people capable of proper behavior? ^^ I'd take the gentleman's club any day. ![[image loading]](http://files.softicons.com/download/holidays-icons/new-year-icons-by-anna-litvinuk/ico/champagne.ico) +1 korea Yes I'm all for freedom of speech and I know how fucking important the Internet truly is. yeah no, i'll risk my life before my wifes ya thats not at all related to what i said at all unless your wife is a blackbelt in Karate and breaks stuff with her forehead chances are you have a better shot at beating up a robber then your wife, thats logic not chivalry altough logic would also say that both of you should hang with the kids instead of trying to go rambo on the potentially gun carrying thieves That's the thing. People are not free to say or do what they want. And you should reread what I said. Want to know where people are definitely not free to do this? Korea. Where they have laws against it. Just like you can't go out and murder someone. It's a law. Learn it. were not arguing wether it is or isnt allowed since it obviously isnt (but so terribly regulated it gives me a headache im sure a programmer wouldnt take long to take a bot to instant ban these people) were arguing wether it should be allowed But you see your support/tolerance of Cyber Dickery make the rest of us look bad so please starting from now on, please follow your post with

Can you get arrested for walking around in a park for saying insults? No Streams have public chats, and unless specific rules are posted, speech shouldn't be prosecuted by the state especially when they have the power to just ban or kick they guy themselves. did you not read the post? your example is way invalid. those insults were directed to JESSICA, and from the post, that guy was being persistent.

If you live in Korea and know you can be sued for this stuff, why would you persist in trolling someone who's known to have a low tolerance level? Sounds like this guy is stupid and should have known better.

Actually, yes you can. At least in America. Depending on who is around said park, how many people are in said part, and how many people are affected. But yeah, it happens all the time. At least in America. I can't speak for other countries.
