I think Jessica went a tad overboard this time. I understand her viewpoint, but jail time and a huge fee is just silly.

yeah its not america, the law is different in korea, he knew what he was doing, he has to face the penalties. this is sounds weird to some americans i know but its normal like everyone is saying.

oh and those penalties in the OP? they are the maximums available under the code. this is the way newspapers report things too and its silly. just coz its legally possible for someone to get up to 7 years doesn't mean every single person gets 7 years its not a compulsory sentencing or something stupid like that.

so how seriously do the Koreans judge treat cyber troll? is it serious business? i don't know where to draw the line on this one, even though i don't really think people can do/say anything on the internet.

To be honest, Koreans have a different approach to internet. Because Koreans have to use their "citizen id #" online, people treat online interactions just like real interactions in the real world.

As such, if someone was literally coming to the SlayerS house and saying these things to her face, would you guys be as sympathetic?

Obviously Jessica is an overreacting and oversensitive person, so the troll on the other side obviously knew he was playing with fire, so full props to him: he got what he wanted. Congrats to him!

If you're going to use a real life analogy, you have to use mail. Like the things people used send to each other in envelopes. Because before the internet, that's how you would send messages to people.

Sending a message is not the same thing as going to someone's house and yelling at them.

How do you think me sending letters threatening to rape a woman would be treated?

She's suing him for "cyber defamation," not threatening bodily harm. Stop conflating the issue.

So words written on paper are how much more bodily than on a screen?

There's clearly a language barrier issue here. She is, at least according to the OP, suing this guy for "defamation," not "threatening to injure her."

dude, at least read the OP

"cunt, fucking suck my dick, I'll bang you, etc."

Ahaha you just made yourself look silly. Read that part of the OP again. It says the words on the screen shots were blurred out so the author of the OP "thinks" that was what was said. From this OP, we don't actually know if there were any threats of bodily harm. If there was, then I think she is completely justified in suing this guy. We don't know if there were though.

do you think it would be blurred out if it was about bunnies and ponies?

people don't usually go to these lenghts for random insults, just saying...

actually it is not, two out of your three posts contained you glorifying your intelligence and big heart. it's kinda silly, that's why that aussie guy quoted you with LOL, but i just didn't wanna be mean and point it out...

oh well

I'm not glorifying anything. I'm not saying I'm better than you, I'm saying I'm better than going about sueing people for insulting or harassing me on the internet, considering I don't actually do so.

I personally don't think it's silly of me to not give in to this kind of behaviour. Additionally, I could say the same to you, that I think you're silly for being willing to sue people for harassing you on the internet, when you could get rid of them in an instant.

Why is that wrong of me?

"I'm not saying I'm better than you, I'm just saying I'm better at being a person than you."

I don't think it's fair to have this discussing with you.

Well going through your posts, you really never addressed the actual criticism, namely being completely self-centered in your argumentation.

When you find it silly what she did, that's fine. That's your opinion. Your argument ended there.

Considering that I'm sharing my point of view, yes, I think it's fair of me to be self-centered. Perhaps you don't understand that.

What part of "your opinion is perfectly fine, but just an opinion" didn't you get?

So you're just going to state something completely obvious and make it sound like it's a bad thing on my end, that everything is fine and I'm completely O.K. for sharing my opinion?

Well of course are you OK with it. But your posts implied such a standpoint should be applied to other persons. And the only argument you had was "well I don't think so", and didn't go into any higher level such as morality, possible implications to social interaction, context of law or whatever. And you were criticized for that lack of substance.

Cool, good for her. If you know the laws of your country and still say something like that about a public figure you deserved to get sued. It's not the same as the Western world so don't try to level this by comparing to joe schmoe on Bnet. People saying she's overreacting need to widen their perspective. There may be more weight on this issue because she's a public figure but this is a commonplace in Korea and he damn well knew better.

no.

my critique was mainly because you tried to equate harassment and random "trolling", and even when i pointed out (several times) that there is a huge difference, you still kept on insisting that you would deal with both the same way - by not suing. so i guess you understand there's a difference, but just won't back down on your original stand...

It's a complete non sequitur to sue someone or send them to jail. Banning is the only appropriate action.

7 years in prison is ridiculous, though I can't imagine anyone would ever get that much prison time for spewing a few vitriolic words over the Internet. Jessica overreacts to everything as though people are attempted murder on her life. Honestly, was it so difficult to just ban the guy and forget about his existence?

And the only argument you had was "well I don't think so". And you were criticized for that lack of substance.

But I'm not arguing with you, LOL. I'm criticized because people think their opinion matters more than mine.

No, they argued with you because you said she was silly to do it. You stated that you won't do it. That's fine. And when asked why it would be silly for her, your only argument is "because I think so". And that's just weak.

I'll argue against that and say it's weak of you to say my only argument is "because I think so" when that's not the truth. You want to go back in history and read my initial posts.
