I would actually say DH would "loose" money having this as a PPV for high quality. DH dont "want" to make money on the esports aspects. It is just something to promote the DH name, and hence the "real" events, being you pay lots of money to come to DH Winter, or Summer. By them having free streams, all their events will have a bigger impact because you remember, "oh hey, DH is free, DH is cool, I WANT TO GO TO A DH". Want to support them? Just watch dude... Really want to support it? Go to a DH!

Yeah, I agree with a lot of that. But supporting it by actually going to an event simply isn't possible for me. I'd love to pay them 10-15 bucks to watch online, but actually traveling there would cost me thousands of dollars, which I simply can't afford.

Did you ever hear Tastosis say "This is the sickest game since ..." with a cheesy game? It might not be MLG's fault but it still where detrimental to the eventual product.
You seem to completely misunderstand what made HSC so good, the reason we did not care about crowds there because it was a very homely atmosphere and we got TONS of player interaction, Winter Arena has no homely feeling because it was shot in a massive office and the player interaction was a joke. They tried to copy HSC but completely failed a gave up the audience without the payoff.
As the poster before my last post noted, this discussion is going nowhere so I will cut it out but realize with your first post you made yourself look like a dick to anyone who's not used to paying for SC2 streams, even if this was not your intention.
Edit: and good job at making another post purely to avoid any discussion because you know you can't win it. You'd be a great politician man.

HSC and MLG are to very different tournaments with very different formats. MLG's most important asset has been it's crowd and a lot of it's hype got created that way. HSCs format on the other hand is to have pro's interact with the online audience by most notably shoutcasting.

You don't know the current MLG numbers because they haven't released them.
Also there's nothing that say that paying for hd is the best way to earn money. If you are right about MLG losing money you are in fact arguing against yourself and you shouldn't advocate it for other tournaments (paying for higher quality). If tournaments are doing as badly as some people say, why should everyone adopt the same strategy? That doesn't make any sense at all. If you are going to argue for something to pay, at least put a bit more effort into it. Personally I rarely pay for hd quality but I gladly pay for extra content. There's nothing to say that forcing the large majority of people (that's what happens) to watch low quality stream is good for buissness just because "that's what you do."
Also the comparison between dreamhack and tournaments like MLG (and simliar types) are off from the beginning. They have different buisness models (apart from the invitationals), making any comparison hardpressed to work.

As long as you book your flight in quite some time in advance you can easily get a turn&return ticket for arround 30-40 Euros if you book in an advance + travel with a cheap airline like Ryanair or something.

Dreamhack allways has awesome producton value. They do need to watch out that their prizepools for the 'qualification tournaments' aren't too low tho. The IEM 'qualification' events for the main event had comparable prizepools and most of them only got like 20-30k viewers.

Also funny how you refuse to respond to any of the actually important statements, must feel bad to get your arguments stomped so badly. GTFO of my discussion, at least until you learn what a discussion is. Mostly cheesy games? I can't think of many notable games that were very cheesy, regardless. That's not any organizations fault if it does happen. It's a simple fact that it had the most impressive lineup of any foreign tournament ever. Down time? There were 4 streams going at a time, all had a game on. I experienced literally zero downtime. No crowd is a cool thing, actually, are you saying HSC is a bad tournament, too? Sure, it's not needed for every event, but personal environment for the players legitimately does breed better gameplay. Player interaction may have not been fully executed, but it certainly wasn't bad enough to call it a "bad tournament" Stop arguing. We don't even really disagree. I think that MLG's format was problematic, so do you. I think content should be offered for free, so do you. Maybe HD streams isn't the best way to support the event, I just want some way to do it. I'll just buy merchandise. You're being a dick for no reason.
Tbh the only one looking like a dick is you with your arrogant and rather rude attitude.
Looking forward to Dreamhack, hope they're better than last year!
