Don't get too excited about the 'streaming' feature:

Just to clarify, the streaming support refers to the technology of having the client already usable before all of the content of the game is downloaded. Basically you download core content and are ready to play while the rest of the content is being downloaded in the background. This is mainly interesting for players that use the Starter Edition to test the game. They won't have to wait for a long time before diving in.

Haha lol, misleading words/10

Ya... so disappointed with this. They should have clarified it since most people associate streaming with watching a video -.-'

If Blizzard adds anything to the game at all they will get at least two reactions:
- "Oh my god, thanks for addressing our concerns!"
- "Thanks for nothing, this change is pointless!"

Usually it's just a change that will help a little, but does not address overarching concerns - yet doesn't really deserve all the cynicism, since it can be genuinely meaningful.
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.

No shared replays, clan support, battle net tournaments, ingame streams and even those are "may not gonna be in patch 1.5"

What are you so happy about? You get a lan with internet connection needed, a full window chat and a new custom game system.

Why wouldn't you be happy to get that versus the status quo? It's improvement and it shows they recognize the problems of the current interface. You can focus on what hasn't been done, and I'm all in favor of putting more pressure on them to implement more features, but you can't pretend this patch isn't a step in the right direction.

It's buried further in this thread, but streaming support has nothing to do with live streams like Twitch or own3d. It's related to Blizzard's game loading system that lets people upgrade/patch while in the game client (like in WoW.)

From the EU Bnet blog.

Seriously, what the fuck, Blizzard? No one can tell me that the initial blog post about "streaming support" wasn't intentionally misleading here. They knew full well that people would assume, well, actual streaming support instead of this. And here I got a tiny bit excited that they listened and went a step in the right direction.

some of you are interpreting this as LAN support, but to me it reads that players will simply have the ability to "prefer" laddering against someone on the same network. like if huk and haypro are practising, and for some reason want to play for ladder points, they both select this option. but to play the game they need still need an internet connection.

hopefully I'm wrong about this, though!

re-reading it, it sounds like that's exactly what it is, which is a pretty useless feature, unless once the game begins its played only over the local network.

This looks way too good. Arcade mode might be something like custom ''1x1 PRO ONLY w/ OBS'' type of games in war3. I could be wrong, but it sure sounds like this. Most of the other features are great, the SC2 team seems to be working very hard. No doubt HOTS will be great.

The sc2 team can't be working that hard, they still haven't finished all the features WC3 already had despite all that code already existing.

True LAN support is the one thing they've been dead-set against from the beginning. I wish it wasn't so but realistically we've probably got to accept that all we'll get is some kind of inferior alternative.

dont see any significant changes, Arcade system will still fail because it is using pop system, the root of the problem is still there.

everything else is junk.

I saw the streaming thing and I was like OMG THEY'RE INCLUDING A STREAM CLIENT OVERLAY THING. Then I realized it was like WoW where you can play after downloading a small portion of the game client, and load the world as you play. I guess it helps people who want to try out SCII, but imagine if you could open up a streaming overlay, and minimize it to talk about the stream inside SCII itself.

Well, everything but the "Thanks for nothing, this change is pointless!" answer is wrong in this regard. Most people here don't even read more that a few words.

* This is not LAN; just finding people from inside a LAN will be easier.
* "Streaming" in this context has nothing to do with Live-streams, but only with updating the client.
* There is no real change announced to the chat system, just resizing of windows and remembering their positions.
* There still will not be a custom game screen like in BW/WC3.

Wonder why blizzard even cares about Blizzard dota anymore. It's just going to be a shittier version of Icefrog's dota.

Other changes seems good but just looks to me like blizzard is saying " Calm the F*** down , we understand you don't like our UI , we'll give you a little something so you guys will shut up for now"

Chances are the "lan" feature is only going to come out in HOTS as an incentive for us to whip out our wallets and fall into blizzards hands again T_T

After a disconnect at a tournament where restarting would seriously be unfair to one player, you could start up a shared-replay and hit 'play from here' -- it's not LAN, it's a band-aid, but would still be pretty cool. And fun for screwing around in replays too.

Patch 1.5 Is Coming

The upcoming 1.5 patch will be our most feature-laden patch to date. This patch represents the first steps towards the release of our first expansion for StarCraft II, Heart of the Swarm, and will include numerous upgrades and fixes throughout the game. One of the most significant additions will be the all new Arcade feature which includes improved custom game visibility, ratings, reviews, game instructions, screenshot support, and more. Patch 1.5 will also include significant improvements throughout the overall user interface, streaming support, antialiasing, editor and modding upgrades, new art tools, and more. We’ll go into further details about these features in future developer updates. In this update, I would like to provide some insight into the thinking and motivation behind a few of the upcoming changes.

Anyone besides me excited about how much better the game may look with good Anti-Aliasing?

About LAN: Sounds interesting, I guess it is kinda sucky, because when I sit with my friend in the room, how will I not already have this person in my Friends List? If it actually lowers the latency significantly, I would be sooo happy...

If they "re-implant" BNET 1.0 style custom games, for god's sake PUR-LEASE make it so that I can filter out all those crappy ones (cannot tell you how frustrating it was not to be able to filter away the gazillions of DOTA games in WC3 when looking for some decent TDs)

Overall I think this will be a good patch, although I am hugely missing the shared watching of replays....but well I have grown used to not having that by now....sigh.

Any indications on when this is supposed to hit?
Maybe it's tech issues, maybe he's just exhausted, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, he wanted to dress as spiderman and web the shit out of his girlfriend / boyfriend / donkeyfriend without having people watch. - wormintrude

I don't understand how this is a big update.
Pretty disappointing patch, as per usual.

Considering where they started and where they will end up at HOTS' release, it sure is a LOT of work.
