While I'm sure plenty of people disagree, I believe that the N word in this day and age has a split meaning. On one hand it can be used as a racial slur, but it can also be used as a curse word, having nothing to do with race, in which case I feel it should be treated no differently as someone throwing out the f word every 5 words. In many ways, this whole event disheartened me, as do so many of the drama related events in the SC2 community. People are quick to jump to conclusions without waiting for all of the facts, or even really putting thought into it and in this case it may have ruined a young man's career. | ||

Of course his remarks crossed the line but to my knowledge this is the first time Orb's been in hot water. His name is tarnished, I can only imagine how he feels right now. And compared to what usually passes for ladder behavour the punishment seems very severe. I feel for you Orb and hope you get back on your feet soon. | ||

I hope your career recovers (I think you are a fantastic caster) and that people forgive you - we all make mistakes; I hope you can eventually take some comfort from the fact that this example has made for a useful message to our communities that it's time to stop casually using hateful language and justifying it as 'rage', 'bm', 'just a word' or 'just joking'. | ||

If reddit went on a witch hunt because IdrA called someone a faggot, and then spammed team EGs sponsors with complaints against the teams they're sponsoring, I guarantee you IdrA would be gone in a week. I may be wrong, alex seems to have a very strict rule about the n word, but I feel that orb would have been let off with a warning, had the reddit/TL mob not spammed the sponsors before facts were presented. | ||

EDIT: so whats different between saying fagg or saying the n-word? why can we spell out "fagg" but have to say "n-word" there is no rank of offensive/derogatory language. I once got suspended in middle school because I called someone the n-word after he called me a chink. No, he didn't get suspended but instead got an apology from the principal. Is chink or fagg less harsh? I've never heard asian calling themselves chinks or see gays saying "wattup fagg" to each other because its harmful. Why is ok that idra throws fagg around but not ok when orb lets nigger slip? 2 reasons. first of all, white americans (sorry to generalize) have a lingering guilt because their ancestors from hundreds of years ago enslaved and oppressed blacks. Its 2012. Stop making racism against blacks sooo much more heinous that racism/ prejudice against any other group. Secondly, its about marketing. It is better for the EG organization to fire orb because of the retaliation from the community. It's not about ethics or morals its all business. Firing Idra would cause outrage from the community and would be VERY bad for business for EG. No matter what idra does, if the community isn't outraged, EG will keep him. | ||
