Yesterday I watched GSL and upon seeing Crossfire being played (in G3 of Parting vs. DRG) it came to me that the removal of this map is long overdue. So I tweeted at Mr. Chae and I was also already working on an extensive post about the map and why it's bad and should not be used anymore etc.
Mr. Chae answered, though, so I guess making that post is not necessary anymore: Crossfire will be removed from the mappool in the next GSL season. Yay!
edit: Because a lot of people have been asking about Dual Sight and Bel'Shir Beach I tweeted at Mr. Chae again, answer came pretty quickly.
So apparently no definite decision on if those maps will stay or go.

With Mutas being prevalent and strong in ZvP it's very hard/impossible for Toss to beat Zerg in a longer game. You need to be able to turtle on 3 bases to defeat Mutas properly and the bases are very far from each other on Crossfire.

I agree. I don't like that map anymore. Its also atheistically speaking unpleasant in my opinion. Was fun for a while with the crazy shenanigans but now its kind of gotten stale.

Do you think it worships god too much? Hahahaha :D
awww i will miss crossfire, was a fun map, hoped the south of the main expansion layout would sneak its way into maps, once people realize how nice it is to defend even for toss, when the army is not around. Guess it won't happen any time soon now. But yeah players didn't like the map and you could see it in the choice of strategies, so removing it will improve the viewer experience.
Weird map, but it brought some epic games. It wont be missed, but it can be laid to rest with honours and thanks, rather than buried with hate like Arid Plateau. Fare ye well Crossfire!
I think they kept it this long because it actually was kind of fun, especially in ZvT/ZvZ. As opposed to Calm Before the Storm and Xel'Naga Fortress which were never fun (apart from StC v Curious) xD
Ah Sin Peaks of Baekdu. Once one of the most beloved BW maps of it's time, ironically one of the least liked maps in SC2.
Good to see it go, especially if a better map takes its place. It was an interesting case study of a decent BW map not quite transitioning very well into SC2, and perhaps a lot can be learned from that.
Thats good, Crossfire was not balanced map imo. Protoss was too weak early game against 111 and you couldnt FFE on that map. But lategame protoss was imba, becouse theres so many small ramps and gaps, storm, colossus and forcefields was too strong.
Belshir is a zerg heaven with muta-ling. You attack down one path, and then suddenly you have lings in your third or nat. It's just too hard for any toss to actually move out. Walling in areas is also too difficult for the map due to the wide but multiple attack paths into the third.
Dualsight while not really being the best map has produced a lot of very fun to watch games and Bel Shir is a good map and it's very hard to play so I think it definitely should not be removed. I mean if you want those maps gone you really want the map pool to consist only of 4 player 3 base turtle maps? I wouldn't mind Dual Sight but Bel Shir should stay.

Lots of maps are good muta maps, but the good Protoss players defend them admirably. The stats don't make this map look completely imba, it should still stay.
WHAT?! Who wants dual sight out of map pool T.T jeez man that map HAS THE SICKEST games on all the time, lets take DRG vs NesTea this GSL.... SICKK man SIIICK games, dont take it away please.
Bel'Shir meh i dont mind that, but seriously dont touch my dual sight T.T

Therre's enough 2p maps that are by far better than Dual SIght or Bel'Shir. It's just a matter of testing them and picking them up.
Some examples: - Sanshorn Mist, used in Korean Weekly since forever now, also IPL map - Korhal Compund , obviously ladder map now - Odyssey, One Must Fall, Damage Inc, currently used and tested by NASL - the last top5 of Map of the Month + if you look through the thread you'll see even more good 2p maps as submission for the next month
I'd be very happy if Dual Sight and Bel'Shir would finally be removed. Crossfire was also rly obvious.
Dual Sight is a great and not so bad balanced map. Without these gold bases the map got very stable and delivers constantly interesting matches, would be sad to see it go away .

This is good news. I was wondering if Korhal Compound would replace Dual Sight, since it's on ladder now. I would be pretty happy with that.
I don't mind BSB too much, because I enjoy having one map which really encourages base trades. It's fun. I think mappers today could implement that idea in a better way, though.
There was an epic PvP on Dual Sight today. They should call it GSL Baserace. What has happened to "Terminus" in GSL ? I liked both versions ( 3rd has an blocked entrance and 3rd has no second entrance, but was blocked by debris. It is still played a lot in weekly EU Cups and tournaments.
Yaay, never liked this one. I care a lot about the appearance of a map, and to me Crossfire doesn't look special at all. More maps with clean aesthetics like Metropolis!
Crossfire and Dual Sight are a definitely a bit outdated, but I still think Bel'shir Beach is a great map. It's gone through so many changes that it's hard to call BSBW an 'old' map, and judging by statistics on the latest version it's pretty evenly balanced.

Crossfire, with its narrow routes of travel, strongly favored AoE units like colossi and siege tanks, made forcefields insanely strong, and hindered players from getting concaves (esp bad for zerg). The positioning of the ramp to the main allows a player to FF the ramp immediately upon approaching the natural, giving a zerg no time to react in case a part of his army is up the ramp.

Any map completely broken for PvP should be out imo D:.
Korhal Compound feels like a VERY natural replacement to Dual Sight imo.
Yeah definitely hope dual sight will be removed. Crossfire was pretty bad too. Like a jungle basin that doesn't favor protoss. Lol. Hey why don't we just add jungle basin back hahahaha I'd love that
Edit: trying to figure out how to use those little race icons. [P]
I hope Bel'Shir stays, I think its one of the best 2 player maps around besides Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom. Would like to see Korhal instead of Dualsight. But I fear they are both equally imbalanced
On February 17 2012 19:21 MiCa wrote: Steps of War will be the replacement hahahah.
steppes of war was better than crossfire, by far. dual sight is bad too but belshir beach is cool, the only beautifull map POWER OF THE SUN !
I hope you're kidding, Steppes of War was completely useless, forcing 5-6 min games.
It wasn't completely useless, it was just way too small. The actual design of the map wasn't bad, although it might not be popular today because the natural was easily siegable. If the map had been twice as big as it was, it probably would have been the best in the pool along with Metalopolis and Xel'naga Caverns.
Conversely, it doesn't matter how large you make Crossfire, the map is bad. I never played on Peaks of Baekdu in BW but if people enjoyed the map there it must have been because it was a different game. Way too many chokes, but at the same time way too many attack paths, but at the same time way too few defendable expansions.
At least on Steppes if you somehow made it past the 6 minute mark it was relatively easy to hold 3 bases.

Sure do. I love how the standard has been raised and it's now considered a shit map, shows that we're making progress. Hope one day, maybe, just maybe, we can say the same for Daybreak.

Are you saying that because you don't think Daybreak is a good map or because you hope the standards get so high that a "good" map might still be the worst map in the pool?
