Q:How do you personally feel about raynor transitioning sc1 to sc2? From the guy who has to act as raynor, do you feel that the emotions he had and the reactions he had were real and natural? Or would you have personally wanted to do it in another way.
I think Raynor is a more fully developed character now. As far as being real and natural... that's my job as an actor. Hopefully I am succeeding. The emotions come from the truth of the scene and how the character would react. The director and Chris Metzen are critical to helping me bring out the "truth" of the character. It is definitely a collaborative process.
Q: Aside from that, how do working environments differ between your work at blizzard and your other voice acting work like at Bioware?
What makes working at Blizzard different is that hey have the luxury to work on the game at a slow pace. We work until the job is done, not when the job needs to be done by.
Q: How do you compare yourself to the character Raynor and what do you do to enter the role mentaly?
It is not that difficult to identify with Raynor. He's like all of us... flawed human beings who are trying to do our best in a sometimes difficult world. The stakes are higher for him.
Q: Mr.Clotworthy i was interested in how you started your voice acting career? and how did blizzard find you to do the voice of jim raynor?
I starting voice acting with Thomas Edison... just kidding. I was always interested in voice acting and started working professionally at the age of 15. Blizzard found me when a friend who worked for Blizzard at the time recommended me to Chris Metzen. I auditioned and got the job.
Q: What league are you in?
I can't tell you that. Imagine the bragging rights of kicking Jim Raynor's ass.
Q: Do play starcraft in your off time? Do you play any other games besides starcraft?
I don't play starcraft.... I live it.
Q: I was blown away when I heard the IPL PPSL page; I was sure they'd just edited together some dialogue but when I realised that you'd actually take the time to record some lines to help promote them I was amazed. I can't think of any other actor (voice or otherwise) who would do that, awesome, just awesome!
I am a fan as well. Might as well have some fun while we take this ride together.
Q: How do you feel about the growth of starcraft as a competetive game and esport in general. do you think you'll be surrounded by fans after starcraft had become a national sport. and do you already participated in a barcraft event?
I think e sports is fantastic. I'm glad that in HOTS Blizzard is changing up the game play to make it even more challenging. And as far as being surrounded by fans is concerned... I still take out the trash every Thursday night.
Q: Do you have any plans to attend some of the big sc2 lan events this year like MLG, IPL or Dreamhack if time constraints allowed you to? As a rabid sc2 fan it would be pretty awesome to have you announce player names ala GSL or even a short Q&A on stage or have a signing booth at one of those events!
I would love to. Let the organizers know and hopefully we can put something together.
^Do it tournament organizers!
Q: Who is your favorite player?
You don't want me to play favorites do you?
Q: After originally doing Raynor, after such a long hiatus, did you ever feel you would ever do Raynor again? I mean this more in the sense of: did you think Blizzard would ever revisit the Starcraft universe after such a long time between Brood war and SC II ?
It's rare that you get to come back and portray such an iconic character. I'm in for the long haul
Q: Jim Raynor is a seasoned vet, he sounds too friendly at times!!!!
Wait till you see him in HOTS.
