UI still sub-par 2 years later. Why don't we care? - Page 35

It seems true to me that if the UI of battle.net was better then it would draw a lot more people into the game as a place to socialize. I think if Blizzard had some options for viewer support for certain streams/competitions directly in Battle.net that would be really cool as well. I think it's unlikely that many UI changes will be seen pre-expansions. Activision/Blizzard is a business afterall and starcraft doesn't generate money as consistently as say WoW, so i imagine it's as not economical to constantly support it. But, Blizzard gave themselves 2 windows to surge in improvments as the expansions came out. If Blizzard doesn't make UI changes like those suggested in the OP, they are shooting themselves in the foot imo.

Hopefully the concept arts can be taken over to the real game, they look brilliant!

also, straight from my sig: Why is it I can never see current worker counts (unless the unit tab is open instead of production), but the spectator UI has TWO different food counts? Just replace one of them with a worker count!

- Custom game system. It's AWFUL. I miss BW custom game system. Say I want to play a 1v1, vs a masters player, in TvZ. You know what I have to do atm? Fucking scavenge chat channels spamming "any masters Zerg 1v1 TvZ?" and garbage like that. Sometimes, you just want to play a particular matchup for shits and giggles. Sometimes, you just want to work on a MU. But my god, it's nigh impossible to do so atm. - Chat channels (but at least we have channels...) suck. Def better than nothing, but still suck. My god, I miss the custom game system so much. I mean with the current system, if it's a public game, the game AUTOSTARTS (wtf?!), and to make it worse, the only way to quit the game is to friggin' log off and relog on! WHAT?! I want to play a 1v1 on Shakuras Plateau, well it's never giong to happen because the map isn't popular enough. But if I was able to HOST Shakuras, you bet someone would join almost immediately. But no, it isn't popular, so I don't even bother, and I join Shattered instead because it's popular, even though I hate that map, because it's where I'll get a game. But by me joining, I only contribute to the friggin' problem!! Argh... then, in the scenario as I said before, some gold Protoss joins, and the game autostarts, without me having time to tell him "hey, I'm masters, this won't be a fun game." So either I quit, or he quits, or the game starts and someone leaves ASAP, or it's a stupid game that ensues. /RANT

Just the fact that they embed pro tournament streams.... That alone means they are so far ahead. DotA 2 as well, letting you obs other people's games

![]() what Bashiok(community manager) has to say It seems there's been some confusion taken from the above statement I made back in September. The chat in Diablo III is exactly as I described, you do all of it in a single window. StarCraft II has a system where each chat is broken out into a separate window, chat program-style, but Diablo III keeps it all in one. The same single window that's used for chat when you eventually jump into a game, too. As far as having open public channels, there's far more negative to them than positive and we maintain a stance that creating an open chat environment without a social structure behind it is an invitation for moderation and support disasters. Most people that want chat channels though are referring to guild channels, or otherwise channels they themselves can operate and choose to invite others to, and we see those as completely valid forms of chat (there's a social structure backing the channel). As I said, back in September, it's unlikely to be anything we attain for ship, but the social group-type chat features are still very much a desire for the future.

The exact same arguments of "social structure" were used to advocate SC2's system and see what we got. And they've got it wrong, so horribly wrong. SC/BW's and WC3's chat system weren't a system prone to abuse, they were the very backbone of the "social structure". It was like meeting people at a bar, or in the mall, or in a lecture hall. Sure, you always had some annoying folks in there as well, but it was mostly filled with people interested in the same thing as you were. You quickly met people or could get questions answered. Right now, we're lacking these large meeting places. It's like "Hey, sure you can hang out with your friends, but only at their place or at yours. But we're not giving you any places to actually meet and make new friends." Chat channels weren't implemented in SC2 with the argument that they were filled with spammers, bots and unfriendly folks insulting the newbies. Sure, that did happen, but everyone - EVERYONE - agreed that you have to take the bad with the good, and such is the price of an open chat system. It's like Blizzard has the pros and cons completely backward.

I'm sure blizzard wouldn't make an xbox-looking interface with such restrictive and unreasonable features and limitations. Also, lol at the conversations in the chat picture xD

So then why don't you remove the General channel from WoW and see how that design philosophy gels with the community. No? Yeah, didn't think so.
