I made a 6 page post about B.net 2.0 problems and suggestions back in September 2010.
http://sea.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/37873827?page=4#67
Nearly all of it is still relevant today and remains unfixed.
It lists issues both small and large. And while I'm sure you might not necessarily agree with all the solutions I offer, I hope we at least agree on the problems.

god i must say Goblinoid are sooooo goood! and i completely agree also would add the Local channels would be extreamly nice to have back esepecially for smaller countries like my own, it really helped the community to blosom and the danish wc3 community actually felt alot more involved than the sc2 community we have now a days in denmark since we were automaticly "forced" together.
would apeal everyone to write and like your battle.nets forum thread to give it some more attension!

As has been stated, Blizzard is in the Bullshit-ness of making money. A: They want you to buy the game. B: they dont want you playing on their servers. (so they can migrate them to WoW, where they do get payed if ppl play. Or why you think that a server would have problems with sc2 when there are about 10% of the servers capacity?)
Might sound stupid, but its just common sense. Everyone making games nowdays sees games like Call of duty etc, and they want the cash that it brings. But the idea is: You play this for as long as i tell you to, then you have to buy again, or you wont be able to play (becouse there are going to be no players left).
I agree with everything said in the thread, and the veredict is: its made that way for a reason, and that reason is to have less players overflowing the servers. *In the first month of this game when i logged on to b.net i saw between 5.000.000 players and 7.500.000 players online. As of this moment i checked, 500.000 online. Seems the idea of blizzard worked.
Now ofc they have to give a lot of promisses to HOTS so that ppl buy it again :D.
Its "planed obsolescence" applied to the gaming industry.

Sad thing is, a lot of those look like features that you could just assign a single coder to in the morning and have it in alpha testing that afternoon and ready for PTR the next day. Of the rest, a lot are something you could have the coder do while waiting for the coffee to stop dripping. The only problematic thing would be making names unique again.

I think changing the uniqueness of names would be one of the things that would be hardest to get a consensus on, some people prefer unique names, some people prefer the current system, and some people prefer the first name, last name system used in beta (my preference). However, disregarding this, I would think nearly everything else in the post should be quite agreeable to almost everyone.

There needs to be a MASSIVE improvement. Especially for a lot of casuals and more serious casuals these are things that keep them in the game and keep the game alive.
|
In order to watch a replay with a friend:
- Go to hard drive - drill down and find save location of replay - realize that you didnt rename it and there isnt really much identifier for the replay - log back on to starcraft - find replay and rename it as something identifiable - go back to the save location on the hard drive and attach it to an email or messenger or skype or whatever - let friend download it - friend needs to save it to their replay folder location - you and friend que up at same time - you pause at 0.05 and agree to watch on x2 - you proceed to watch the replay at same time as friend, but you are 0.02 ahead of your friend -friend gets pissed off that the epicness of the replay was not worth the work of opening the replay

Nah, just tying the favored-function to difference between MMR would fix a lot. Add clan support plus clan channels and hey presto, it's fixed.

What a great OP. I absolutely agree with everything that's been said, and I think that it's something Blizzard needs to fix. Lan, I can live without - a proper chat system with proper channels, proper friends lists and a proper custom game system I can't.
I really think the custom games thing is hugely important. Look at WC3 for a perfect example - an entire new game genre (DotA) was envisioned out of that system, with literally millions of people playing, and still playing. Think about some of the great maps borne out of the BW custom games system - I have hugely fond memories of back when I was a kid, staying up to all hours of the morning trying to beat Impossible Scenarios maps with my friends.
What do we have with SC2? A bunch of custom games nobody knows about or plays, and a select few that are neither fun nor engaging past the first five minutes of playing them.

That's actually a really great way to put it. WC3's custom scene and system were so great that they spawned an entire new genre, which by now easily eclipses RTS games both in player and viewer numbers. And it's not only MOBA games (I hate that acronym, btw), but also Tower Defense maps (which by now are succesful apps for smartphones).
There's no chance SC2's custom scene will release anything like that. Nada. Not with how things are at the moment.
*edit: I added this argument to the part about custom games in my OP.

SHockk, dont give up. We cant give up.

Oh, I won't. Not this time.
This thread (or rather its very first iteration on the official german boards) was supposed to be my final attempt at voicing my frustration - after seeing countless other threads quickly vanish due to lack of interest or trolls / white knights / fanboys destroying any momentum. But this time it's different. In a matter of days, this discussion has spanned several platforms, servers, even languages, and the feedback is uniform in the community's utter disappointment over the state of the game.
Blizzard RTS games are a passion of mine, and I'm absolutely dismayed over how SC2 has developed. I can't program, or design, or create videos; I don't develop maps, and I regularly get left out on Blizzard beta tests. But I want to use my passion this time around, and if keeping this thread and all it's copies alive and kicking is the best I can achieve, then that's what I will do.
I'm also considering to actually not buy HotS, although I still struggle with myself over this, having bought all previous Blizzard titles asap after release. But I've already managed to not get Battlefield 3 because of Origin and EA's horrible support, and frankly, the situation with HotS is similar. Despite my own inner fanboy crying out at the notion of not getting the addon, it's a fact that in its current state, I do not enjoy SC2. And there's no logical reason to spend money on an addon for a game that's not fun.
So, long story short: I won't give up.

the fact that no blue has ever responded to any of these topics in whatever what language just shows that blizzard won't change their UI tbh. Lots of effort has been put into this topic by Shockk and his companions, lots of effort was put into the topics on the forum and it looks like it is all being ignored. Last blue about this issue seems to be dated 2 years ago
I for one would like a tournament feature, shared replays and a better custom UI to start with
|
Its a good topic and it's still interesting to see that so many people are constributing to it.
Still. I wouldn't get your hopes up. People hoped pre-beta for a lot of features. Same in beta in anticipation for the release. Same in release in anticipation of a patch. And now the same thing with HotS.
The single most mindblowing feature to not have was always multiplayer replays for me. The hours I would have hanged out with friends watching and analysing replays together. This was a decision by Blizzard to NOT take in. And their engine problably doesn't allow for it without some major changes anyway. At least that's what I tell myself because who could be so stupid...
I think Blizzard has dropped the ball on a lot of things. They basicaly have one of the best communities a studio can wish for. So much pricemoney and such a huge amount of events from east to west. I mean just look at the calender at times, that's insane! And still they roll with the "if it works it works"-principle.
Others managed to come up with far more modern solutions... I don't care much about SC2 anymore and probably won't buy HotS, but damnit Blizzard...get your pants up...at least for the community!
|
I don't have anything to add but what has already been said. Bnet 2.0 is one of the main reasons that SC2 never grabbed me*. Out of all my friends who were either BW stalwarts or people I convinced to buy WoL, none of us play this game anymore. You killed our hype, Blizzard. Why?
(*the other big reason being the mediocre sound effects and music. gameplay complaints are a distant third)
|
Anyone else notice how every time you click on any button on the bnet display, it takes a good 10 seconds to load whatever it is you clicked on?
|
this is so incredibly frustrating. the community is unanimous in its disappointment and it becomes clear that sc2 is slowly bleeding out because it feels so lonely to play without friends and chat. Just from the game you could never feel that there are thousands and thousands of people playing this game every day. just the opposite. you feel alone. Look at how every week or so on reddit there are posts: oh wow, i never knew sc had such a large community and I've been playing for a year. seriously, that's so incredibly sad and disappointing!
|
I feel more lonely on bnet 2.0 than in my own room.

Just went through Bashiok's (the community manager of D3) recent Q&A on Twitter.
Even though this is D3 it's still the battle.net 0.2 platform, and it should represent Blizzards current stance on it.
Some user "@Bashiok could you elaborate a bit mor on why exactly blizzard thinks that a general open chat channel like inn D2 or SC1 is a bad idea? Bashiok: "@CaptRaven The good is minuscule compared to the bad, and we have to actually support these things..."
Some other user "@Bashiok any plans for any guild/clan features?" Bashiok: "@Millerjoeblue We'd love to offer some kind of support for social groups, but it's on a wish list at the moment."
And again "@Bashiok I have a question about friends and chat in D3. Is it possible to add someone to a friends list? Also, is there a global chat?" Bashiok: @Varastus21 Yes there's multiple different types of friends lists. Global chat like you want to spam all your friends? no."
And again "@Bashiok thats a bummer wanted to ask when the EU beta keys were coming . But a real question, can you play Diablo 3 offline?" Bashiok: @QuriousAlonsus No.
And again "@Bashiok thanks for your answer. so chat channels are still part of the game?" Bashiok: "@kultbot They're in there right now. Unless people are expecting general open channels? We've consistently said we won't have those." Hello arrogance and Blizzard out of touch with community.
Hell no that I'm buying D3 or HotS until you fix your shit.
