Those Bashiok posts are actually a fucking embarrassment. Definitely won't be buying D3. Encourage others to do the same/cancel pre-orders.

Activision didn't merge with Blizzard, it merged with Vivendi. Vivendi owns Blizzard thus Activision does too and has word in anything Blizzard does and that's why all these premium services started appearing out of nowhere after they merged.
WoW had premiums before. And you mean Activision Blizzard, not Activision. Which is just Vivendi Games renamed. Which I guess means you think Vivendi Games wouldn't have tried to monetize SC2 and D3. And that's a fantasy.

And a nice find from the first US thread - a small story by user Refund. I think we all have anecdotes like these to tell, and it's nice to see somehow share his or her story.
As a matter of fact, I'd like to go into my entire story playing blizzard's games. Maybe if blizzard takes the time to read this they will understand why the platform is what keeps people playing the game- not the gameplay alone. To put things into perspective I'm 24 today and I'll take you back to the beginning of my online gaming experience. The very first clan I was in was on nfl 2k or 2k1 on sega dreamcast. This was a fun game and first time I became a part of a clan. This clan's tag was known as bLoWn. For whatever reason my initial gaming tag was always "viper" so I went with ViPeRbLoWn. Like a lot of low level clans, this clan eventually died and I eventually moved onto another game. My brother came home from school one day had a pirated copy of sc1 on a disc. I was in 7th or 8th grade at the time and was curious at this game called "starcraft" he had. He ended up googling a cd key so we were unable to play on bnet at the time, but we did old school 56k dial a friend to play. Boy was I in for a !@#$ing treat. I instantly fell in love with this game and wanted to experience what battle.net had to offer. We eventually biked 3 miles to the nearest walmart to buy this game. I was older, could bike/run faster, so I made it to the computer first. I log onto battle.net, search for a game, get zealot rushed while my first gateway is still building and get destroyed. I was a complete %^-*ing noob and dreaded to play another ladder game. I played UMS maps like bunker wars, golems, etc. for awhile. Then something magical happened. One day after sprinting home from the school bus, defeating my brother once again I log on to battle.net using the only alias I had "ViPeRbLoWn". I enter the first public channel I joined and browsed for some customs. I was unable to connect to a game I wanted so I went back to see the chat. I had green text on my screen from a message from a random player. Desire: " Hey man want to join a clan? come to channel clan te" Interested in meeting new people and remembering clans in prior games I thought sure why not? I typed /join clan te and thus begun the greatest gaming experience of my life. I was a complete !@#$ing noob and these guys were so willing to accept me into their clan. As I played inhouse "melee" games with them I began to learn from who I thought were the best gamers I had ever seen. One of the guys in this clan was amazing and had achieved rank #1 a few times on ladder at the time. He was known as (TE)DaPlayer, Player(TE), and hippy. I had met another player in this channel who was known as "elite.prime220." I then changed my name and became ViPeRbLoWn(TE) They taught me a lot and I became your average sc gamer, quickly becoming above average. Not too long after wc3 released. It's 2003 and I'm addicted like no other to blizz RTS games. The first week wc3 is released, me, player, and prime joined Clan CG on wc3. Player was an amazing gamer and due to his sc1 status was auto allowed into the clan. I had to tryout and play 1v1s while an entourage of gamers observed and critiqued. I was weak at the time, but being player's sidekick I was allowed in the clan. I became Viper[cg], player was Crazed(Peon[CG], and prime stuck with his elite.prime220. The channel clan cg was popping at the time as were others. Wc3 had a win/loss ratio so you were able to see who was real good at the game. Big name clans/hangout channels began to emerge and people began making names for themselves in the community. Clan CG broke apart and my brother had joined Clan eG so I joined this as well. I was now known as eG)ViPeR. Being in clan eG under eG)ViPeR is where I began my own history in bnet 1.0. I slowly saw myself become better and watching my win% rise over time. Prime decided to change names as well and became eG)Prime. There were some big name clans at the time and when I saw names like Qazzi[cF], Legato, people from Clan Intel in the loading screen I had adrenaline rushes only comparable to sporting events. Different clans became rivals of each other, channels became rivals and hang outs. Clan ogie, clan intel, clan nopeon- a channel you couldn't join unless you had an icon. We had bots back in that day as well so channel admins could place restrictions on who could enter. It could be you had to have an icon, or meet a certain level requirement. Levels at the time were an achievement and it felt good earning a spot in the channel of the "pros" Prime and I ran Clan eG for years. We saw good players come and go. It was almost like a farm for good players. The famous north american pro "sonkie" was in eG even for a period of time in frozen throne right before he made a big name for himself. I made a few other accounts in frozen throne to try and make a good record like "the pros." Nothing was more jaw dropping than joining a channel- just happen to see someone like Qazzi in there with some ridiculous 100-0 record. I made a few other accounts like eG)HiDe and RandoM_SkiLL. I still log on time to time to keep my accounts alive in bnet database because it's that hard let the good times go. http://classic.battle.net/war3/ladder/W3XP-player-profile.aspx?Gateway=Azeroth&PlayerName=eg)hidehttp://classic.battle.net/war3/ladder/W3XP-player-profile.aspx?Gateway=Azeroth&PlayerName=random_skillDuring the years in frozen throne I had many great memories. They range from the various clans I was in- Clan eG, clan tMc, clan BBQ, to the rank #1 achievements I was able to obtain with friends in AT games, and to the thrill of winning a in-game tournament that the entire server can witness the results. The experience I had was amazing, and what you see me talking about here is not even the gameplay, but what battle.net had to offer. The gameplay was fun, there were games in my mind which stand out, but the experience of the in game community is what kept me playing all those years. The fun of the clans, clan rivalry, seeing someone accomplish insane unheard of records. Qazzi anyone? Showtime anyone? Legato anyone? Marn anyone? Faluzure anyone? nun3slol? newb.bot? I still chat with prime to this day, as well as a few other people I met during my time on bnet 1.0. I wouldn't even mind meeting some. The part that's disappointing to me is that this new bnet doesn't allow for any of what I just described to you in this novel of a post. Now only are these features not in the game, nobody has a CLUE if these will ever be implemented after a whole 2 years! For this reason alone is why I gave up on blizzard and have moved on with my life. If HoTs is released and nothing is addressed about the current bnet I won't ever buy another blizzard RTS. I'm almost too old now to keep up with gaming hardcore. I wanted to have one last experience in sc2 like I had with wc3. Signed, eG)ViPeR aka eG)HiDe RandoM_SkiLL NoRefunD tl:dr- sigh just read it http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3988232669?page=22#438

Hey guys, I'm really happy to see this discussion resurfacing with such conviction.
Here's some (really) rough concepts I hashed out today: http://imgur.com/a/oiqJP#0
They're two different layouts featuring suggested features. I know it's just the basic home screen, but I'm working at building out a full interactive pdf and I want to have a solid starting point. They both have the general links across the top: Play (links to 1-p, M-p, etc.), News, Forums, Replays, Home (logo), Profile, Achievements, Ladder, Clan.
The first has navigation and communication UI that takes up 44% of the screen, but could potentially be hidden. Positives include constant interaction with chats, friends/clan/party list and even a rotating information display (recent matches, opponents, profile info, etc.).
The second has navigation and communication UI that takes up 18% of the screen, but is by default hidden. This means there's lots of room for the body of the UI (custom game interface, profile surfing, etc.) but you still have the disconnect of having to open and close your chats and friends/clan/party lists.
Let me know if there's one that you prefer, or if there are any ideas you have besides!
Also also, a suggestion: Crtl + Tab to switch between chats (like tabs in a web browser).
Your humble servant, Goblinoid

(so they can migrate them to WoW, where they do get payed if ppl play. Or why you think that a server would have problems with sc2 when there are about 10% of the servers capacity?)
Might sound stupid, but its just common sense. Everyone making games nowdays sees games like Call of duty etc, and they want the cash that it brings. But the idea is: You play this for as long as i tell you to, then you have to buy again, or you wont be able to play (becouse there are going to be no players left).
I agree with everything said in the thread, and the veredict is: its made that way for a reason, and that reason is to have less players overflowing the servers. *In the first month of this game when i logged on to b.net i saw between 5.000.000 players and 7.500.000 players online. As of this moment i checked, 500.000 online. Seems the idea of blizzard worked.
Now ofc they have to give a lot of promisses to HOTS so that ppl buy it again :D.
Its "planed obsolescence" applied to the gaming industry.
Yeah that's probably it... They don't actually want you playing on the servers, you're taking up space without paying. Trying to get Blizz to fix the UI won't work, it might annoy them but they'll just stall and stall until LotV, then dump the community altogether.

I'm hoping that in the next "State of the Game" they gonna talk about this topic and about this problem overall. Maybe Day[9] could mention that in his daily. If the OP is willing to do this, he could PM the pros on TL and ask them for the support/statements about this subject.

I think you are really in touch with what the community wants and actually have the artistic knowhow to lay it out for the scubs working at blizzard

I think the saddest part is Blizzard/Activision probably wouldn't even need to develop a better system themselves . I'm 100% certain there's alot of people in the Starcraft community that would be able and probably willing to do it for them if Blizzard allowed it. Then they could just use that system without paying much if anything for its development. The community could basically create and pay for the system themselves. But i doubt Blizzard would be OK with a this.

its like blizzard wants us all to play WoW for social features, and then there will be a sc2 and a diablo3 battlemaster...
|
The current system is ok, just look at twitch tv chat, on a major event, when there are like 50.000 people watching it. Maybe only around 5000 of those people have a twich account, and are in the actual room, and it's still a total mess. Trolls have evolved a lot in the last years, even now there are many people that just sit idle in common chat channels, and cry about how broken the game, even if they don't even play this game anymore, if you look at their match history they haven't played in weeks, yet they join those channels just to cry about balance... because they know that they'll find people there to annoy.
Clan chat rooms, clan tags are the only missing things.

Set max users per Channel to 50... or 100.
WOAAAH, i just solved your problem.
Guess what... It was handled that way in Bnet1.0 and allowed you to chat with "random guys" in the public channel whiteout them becoming a total spammfest (well, depends on the "purpose" of said channel) or to join a Clan/Guild/Whatever channel to hang out with people you know.
staggering, isn't it?

IRC there had been a moderator system and even Bots in Bnet 1.0 in channels of the bigger clans / tournaments at least in Wc3 ( and yes the channel had a max number of people ) . Of course the random standard chat channel had alot of spam and whining in it but it was pretty easy to just ignore. I'd rather deal with those guys then not dealing with well anybody ^^

I'm going out to cancel my D3 pre-order. Not interested in dealing with a company that blatantly disregards such great feedback.
I'm so happy that Bungie is making PC games again. Bungie is a company that respects it's community.
