To summarize: 1. Anyone forfeiting first round, no thread, not newsworthy 2. One of the best foreigners forfeiting invitational right before finals, yes thread
So Tylers excuse is far worse then Stephano's and nobody wants to come out and say it because all the hate will get directed towards one of your team members, I get it.

And that's not a racist comment, simply a cultural observation by someone who has a 2nd home in France. qualifying your prejudice doesn't make it less prejudice.

Not sure if SRS?
Forfeiting first round isn't newsworthy, no matter what the excuse is for the forfeit. Forfeiting the finals? Newsworthy.

Just because a player is very, very good doesn't entitle him to do stuff like this, that is why we have rules in place. If players could just up and forfeit a tournament because, "I'm too good/the best", then it would be total anarchy. Rules need to be in place and they need to be enforced.
If you don't agree with the format of a tournament or the schedule, then don't participate, that simple, but don't participate, and than at the very end, the final, spit in the face of the fans, the organizers, the other players, by doing this. That just shows an incredible lack of ethic and respect.
No one should be above the law/rules, no matter the size of the tournament, how do we expect to grow this industry if we put the players above the rules?
Stop being dumb EVERY player has the right at any time to forfeit whatever he wants.
Most people just think it's a very douchey thing to do but he didn't break any rules.

I could make a dozen of "cultural observations" on americans based on the fact that I attended 5 years in an american school and it wouldn't make those comments less racist.

I dont think that stephano handled this correctly. If he was to tired to play then he could have done a 1-base baneling bust every game and lost would this thread exist, possibly. The way ONOG handled this was very good because it is clear what the did and why. In the end I think that all of these threads like most of these and this only make it hard to get people into eSports.

#1 doesn't matter if it's Liquid, there wouldn't be a thread about Destiny or Flo or Incontrol or anyone else forfeiting first round, this should be obvious to anyone. There is no special treatment for Tyler. tyler forfeited round one? didnt know that... because it had no impact on my viewing experience....

I feel really sorry for the tournament organizer when I see this. It's fucking bad news when it happens live and you are not warned of it. I think Stephano is at fault, but I want to say this kind of stuff happens A LOT in Euro tournaments -DQ, forfeiting, etc imo. It's like a general trend, and the players don't seem to care much about something else that their game, which is plainly sad (especially for all the people that put so much time in collecting sponsors, organizing the event, contacting players and casters... the list goes on). I wouldn't call it unprofessionnal though as I don't think we can affirm there's any kind of ethic moral going on.
That was of course ambitious of Stephano to participate in two consecutive tournaments on the same evening. However, I want to say that from Steph's point of view, at 4:50 am, after playing all game and after already winning another tournament, he must have been physically EXHAUSTED. Loosing his concentration, I heard his last matchs were sloppy (although I haven't seen them). You can't expect a high level athlete to perform well under this circumstances and Steph probably didn't want to show bad matches. So in a certain point of view, I understand his decision.
However - the time was not really appropriate for a final between 2 EU... 4:50 is really late for EU players. just my 2 cents

Nah nah, none of that fake games bs. All tourny hosts and esports enthusiasts claim to "see through that". Remember Naniwa's one action drone rush?

What about Idra's homophobic "insults" (for me it's not) during his ALL commented stream, featured on TL?
Where is the Thread Hot_bid? No worth it? Less important for esport's image?

Exactly! thank you. I don't understand how this isn't clear to everyone wanting to know why tyler quit.

You take off your tin foil conspiracy hat now.

Huh? neither of them had any excuse whatsoever. Tyler forfeited in the first round, and it didn't make a big stir. There was no punishment to be done, and the tournament went on. What gets a thread isn't just about which player acted worse. It's about what is actually big news, and the impact and controversy involved in Stephano's situation is much, much bigger. Even before the thread, there was a ton of debate going on about Stephano, but none about Tyler, and that's just natural.
People don't all read reddit... If TL is where you look for starcraft news, which is totally reasonable, and you don't randomly dig through live report threads, you'd never know this was an issue until this headline. If TL wants to be a real place for news, anything causing this much controversy has to be a headline somewhere that people actually see.

"wait 45 mins no DQ, if I was late 15 minutes I would be instant DQ no? where is the consistency ;;"

Didn't DRG suffer from food poisoning playing in the MLG championship semifinals? You don't see him asking for a 45 minute break to grab a snack or forfeiting his matches. Also, I'm pretty sure playing two small online tourneys is nothing compared to the endurance that leenock demonstrated at MLG. He couldn't down an energy drink and play a couple more matches of starcraft? Endurance is part of the game, just like every other sport.

The brain uses a lot of energy work and starcraft is quite intense, im sure everyone deserves a break

Immature, irresponsible, and disrespectful, maybe.
But to stereotype French people as those is ridiculous.

You made a post earlier in this thread about Destiny being featured too, if you think homophobic language on featured streams is an important issue by all means make another thread about it yourself in website feedback.
Just stop derailing, post again about this and it's a ban.
Thanks.
