Yea i know that it doesn't matter that much (for example sAviOr, a SC:BW bonjwa had like 200 apm and he was the best in his time) but it sometimes it can make your self-confidence higher, thats the point of this thread; the reason of this post is not to say to newbie peoples like "Oh, you have slow hands, i think youre bad at SC2 aren't you?". If this thread will help at least 1 person to get better, then i will be happy.

Haven't played SC2 ladder for about 9-10 months, used to play it about 1-2 hours on average per day I guess. Peaked at about Top 500-600 EU points wise in season 2, which is mid Masters level I guess? No idea about apm, somewhere in the 90-140 range I guess.
I really like typing fast Even bought a das Keyboard recently because of it.

So what is the point of the thread besides people listing their stats and bragging? I don't see how seeing these stats will help someone get better. Typing really doesn't have any relation to SC2 since for the most part you're only using one hand on the keyboard during the game and not type any words. Mouse clicking accuracy games are more relevant.

well mb his point is that someone will think wow im really fast at typing but i have small apm in sc2, maybe i need to think about game more so i can make more decisions overall because my hands are really fast, i just dont know what to do!

sometimes u can see that master lvl has an apm of gold level player, doesnt that give u confidence that u can be in masters with for example 70 apm?

The problem with threads like this is that they don't go anywhere. They don't tell you much more than the leaderboard of the original game would. That's why they usually end up getting closed pretty quickly.
edit: I mean, admittedly, the OP tried to add a wrinkle with the SC2 comparison, but I think the general consensus here is that there's probably not enough correlation to make that worth tracking. Who knows, maybe this thread will prove me wrong.
For what it's worth, my high score in a couple of tries was 464 points, 93 words per minute. At my fastest I can occasionally top 100 WPM, so I could probably improve that score a bit, but not by a ton.
I don't play SC2 and I never got past newb level in SC1.

My league is Gold, and I honestly don't believe that a typing test really means anything in the game. I was hitting over 100 when I was bronze-silver. The most important part of typing is the accuracy really, and it's not exactly hard to "miss" a hotkey in the game.

SC2 - protoss, floated around top 10 master's about half a year ago but i don't play anymore. sc2 gears apm ~150 iirc.

- I play maybe 2 hours max per day, although there are many days 'off in between. Rough estimate of an average is around 20 minutes of Starcraft each day.

- Of course I play other games! Recent additions are Sequence and Skyrim, although I played a lot of Quake 3/UT2k4 back in the day, play Quake Live decently, and play a shitton of boardgames (the strategic or adventure kind, not Monopoly or Risk;))
An interesting addition to this test would be typing style, IMO. For instance, I have a bit of a whacky 7-finger style, where I do use all five fingers on my left hand (thumb = space), but only use my right hand index and middle finger. My right ring finger only comes into play for buttons like Enter and Backspace. None of my pinkies ever do anything other than float around in the air and occasionally hold shift, so I guess you could even say it's effectively a 6-finger style.
(As you can tell, I never had any typing lessons in school that weren't so simple that I could just own everyone else with this flawed method of typing;))

I've been to Typing World Championships in 2007 yay ^^ officialy one of the fastest kids alive back then
On easy texts like this a real good person can achieve above 700-800+, but typically when I do long copying such as 10 minutes or 30 minutes speed sets between 400-500 characters / m for me.
Champions can typically sustain 800+ cpm for 30 minutes when typing their native language, but there are maybe half a dozen people who have shown that in the last decade. I think the number is gross, which means they get -100 characters for every mistake.
I think having very fast hands and muscle memory ready for your own keyboard can be helpful for SC2, to certain levels. I had very, very easy time during the beta when the game wasn't understood that well and almost everyone could be beaten by using the right hotkeys fast enough - this advantage degrades as people tend to learn superior builds and how to use hotkeys for micro & macro themselves.
If anything, it's worth to get used to touch typing in the 21st century but I guess it isn't that much of an issue for the majority of TLers already.

My normal wpm is about 80 but with that it was only 60
i found it really hard as my brain was almost fighting against my hand cos nothing made sense lol.

I fail at this test thing because I look at the keyboard when typing, and I don't when I'm playing SC2. When I'm not looking at the screen I make typos when quickly glance at the moniter, when I am looking at it constantly I fail horribly. Either way my wpm doesn't reflect my apm at all.

The real eye-opener for me here is how much time everyone devotes to SC2 per day :o
Apparently, those days I call "ladder grind days" where I finally get rid of my bonus pool and play a couple of hours in a row are a daily occurrence for more than half of you. For me, they're a planned thing I do maybe once every 3-4 weeks once deadlines and/or other work have settled down a bit.

That's because typing is so ingrained in muscle memory for most people that it's not even a matter of thinking anymore, whereas you'll still have to decide what to do, when and how in a game of SC2.
For instance, I could probably type my name repeatedly a lot faster than I could select base, make probes, select probe, make pylon, select army, attack move + forcefield, select robo, make colossus, select nexus, chronoboost robo, select warpgates, warp stalkers, etc...
The latter simply takes a lot more thought and involves more irregular patterns while, when you're typing a word, the letters of that word are a sort of "road map" for what your fingers should be doing.

Seems like in sc2 gears zerg almost always have higher apm / effective apm. Even when I offrace zerg and am slow since I'm not used to it I still get way higher apm than when I play terran even though I micro significantly less imo. I guess a lot of it is larvae select + creep spread, those tumors refresh so fast
