Today the ESV Mapmaking Team is proud to announce our newest addition to the team, Travis "IronManSC" Rinker!
Formerly of team TPW, IronManSC has quickly become one of the very top talents in the foreign mapmaking scene, and has almost unparalleled asthetic work. Creating amazing maps like Ohana, IronManSC will be a wonderful addition to the team! We feel the addition of IronManSC will not only benefit IronManSC himself, but also the entire ESV team as a whole!
I am so excited to add IronManSC to the team, and think this move far and away puts ESV as the very premiere mapmaking team. With IronManSC comes the runner up of the TL Map Contest, Ohana, which is one of the most visually appealing maps of all time.
Statement from IronManSC I am really excited to be going from TPW to the ESV map team. I've learned a significant amount of mapping from TPW, and I love those guys and appreciate all their support and hard work, but I feel it's time for me to take a step further into the mapping world, and ESV has presented that to me.
Very excited for this, hopefully blizzard will hire people like IronManSC to make there maps and what not, love you week and wish you the best of luck in the future!
Hey guys I have always been in awe of the map making community but don't know much about it. Do map making communities like ESV and TPW have some sort of hate or dislike towards each other or are they on friendly terms? Also do map makers make maps purely for fun or are they paid for it (apart from paid contests).

Pretty friendly terms, but of course we all want to be the best . This decision was talked over with TPW by IronManSC and they were ok with it.
The amount of communication in the top top map making community is unreal, it's a really awesome thing.
Edit: No one makes money making maps aside for contests. Tournaments besides PSL don't pay for maps. It's a shame.
Thanks so much ^^ I look forward to contributing everything that I have to the success of ESV, the map community, and most of all, E-sports.
If anyone is interested in watching me work on melee map projects, I have a map stream that I use daily (taking a break for now). Here is the link for all the map streaming information:

Thanks for your quick answer. Good luck to you all

I do it purely for fun and because it's a hobby of mine - regardless if I never get paid for it. But to make it this far into the mapping scene makes it feel like a bigger responsibility, so I take my work seriously and with pride.
If you want to know my story of how I got into map-making you can go here, the map-making blogs that also feature other map-maker's stories.

not at all, it's a pretty friendly rivalery. we are all in the same skype group talking about mapmaking 24/7 on of the reasons for ironman to leave was that he was the only american member in an european team. so he was already testing his maps mostly with the esv guys when us tpw people were asleep :D
Congrats to both of you! I'm a big fan of ESV, and I'm thrilled that another fantastic map maker has been added to the roster. It's a great step for map making.
I remember back when you first started making maps, and would get me to help you test them. You have come a long way from Belshir Walkway, and an even older Ashir Dulan/Tarsonis Stronghold, to now being one of the best map makers out there.
Heres a quote from the first person to reply to you on TL. I kind of think its amusing seeing how far you've come now.
"And now on a serious note. You either have to accept that people who aren't in the iCCup team have a chance close to zero to ever get their maps played publicly or you start organizing tournaments with your maps. -FlopTurnReaver"
ESV is like the EG of the map making community. Timetwister comes out of no where, makes a cool map, immediately gets picked up. Next, Ironman gets 2nd place in the TLMC, gets picked up. Whoever wins this MOTM/ESL map contest will be picked up next, imo.

Oh my lol
I can't find tarsonis stronghold... I must've deleted it, but for those who are interested in seeing my first two maps I ever made for starcraft 2, they are these:
http://i.imgur.com/l5Fmp.jpg This was the first starcraft 2 map I ever created, and I did it entirely without a 90-degree (or top-down) view. I created this entirely without pathing, without grid, without copying and pasting, and without custom doodad placement. I didn't know about any of these features when I created this lol
http://i.imgur.com/t1xHL.jpg This was my first real 'competitive' melee map. It received a highly-rated thread here when I first created it, and it was the starting point of my desire to create more melee maps. This was the first map that eXigent started play testing for me. At this point, I knew what grid, pathing, and copying and pasting was, but I was still a newb.
@eXigent:
Buddy, you've come a long way yourself. I mean it when I say this: You're the greatest tester I ever had while I made maps. I never got a solid chance to tell you that, but I want to here, publicly. You've literally tested over 60 games on roughly 4 maps overall. Without your commitment to helping me improve, I would not have gained the betterment of the terran knowledge that I need when creating maps. Your support and dedication is one of the key elements to where I'm at right now, and I do thank you and appreciate everything you've done for me, but also for the community as a whole. Thanks buddy I'll see you on battle.net sometime!
This is a little late, but after watching the Korean Weekly I just want to give grateful "thank you" to Diamond, Orb, supporters and fans for the warm welcome and introduction to ESV. So far it's been a good start, and I look forward to contributing more
