http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/ESV_TV/Grand_Prix_1

Hello everyone! After a great first season the Korean Weekly is BACK and ready to roll for 2012!!!! We will be expanding the tournament in several ways, and thanks to the genrosity of Twitch TV for Season 2 the Korean Weekly will be expanding!

The most important change will be in the Monthly Finals, which have been scrapped in favor of the ESV TV/Twitch TV Grand Prix events.

The ESV TV/Twitch TV Grand Prix events will feature a much more extensive roster of players, upping the number to 36 per event. Most importantly the prize pool has been increased to $2,000 USD per event!!!!

With this change there will be several other effects. One will be that 8 weeklies will seed into the Grand Prix instead of previously there was only 4 per finals. This will allow a much more diverse player base, as well as allowing for a double group stage format. The winners of the dual group stage will advance into a 8 man, single elimination tournament for all the glory and prizes!

In addition there will be 4 invites players per event that will invites. 2 will be foreigner invites, and 2 will be previous champions of the Finals/Grand Prix's.

We hope with this increased prize pool the Korean Weekly will continue to be one of the very premiere weekly events in the world, and a real trend setter.

I cannot personally say how much I appreciate all the love and support we received this past year, and I will continue to do everything I can to make this tournament the best!

I will be rolling out more details in this thread once our production guy gets back into town and can make me some cool diagrams and such, so make sure and stay tuned to this thread as it WILL be updated.

Thank you again everyone!

Edit: About Code A slot
The lack of Code A was actually something I decided. When I was asking advice from some people about CoCa/Byun someone I respect as a tourney admin A LOT said this to me

It's the same problem you have with players forefeiting for teammates constantly gotta fix the source of the problem not the behavior.

I could not agree more. The system works, Jjajki is a GSL Champion, I don't want to break it but as long as Code A is there I am stuck either breaking the format or having the non stop risk of CoCa/Byun. So that's why I wanted to increase the monetary prize pool.

I am looking at this time at working on seeding into foreign events like Dreamhack instead as that has a lot more value to most Koreans. Nothing yet but it's a direction I am trying to head.

This sounds really good. I'm interested to see how the Twitch TV Grand Prix events will play out. Glad they picked you up!

I am curious about the Code A seeding issues. Have you changed anything this season?

[EDIT] Nvm, I need to F5 more XD

I hope you know how smart of a person you are. Or perhaps you just seem really smart to me, I don't know but you are great.

That being said I think these changes are great and what you are doing is awesome.

I hope this helps with the tournament being the "Taeja Weekly". As fun as it is to watch, it gets kinda dull when you can so easily predict the winner each week.

Long time viewer of the Korean Weekly here. I love the fact that your "baby" is getting bigger and better in 2012. The improvements and advertisement of the Korean Weekly (on Reddit especially) already draws a decent viewer count every week and is steadily increasing.

This announcement above is awesome, really looking forward to this! Thanks Diamond, amazing work as always! :D

What I'd like to know is, if the partnership with GOM is officially over - there is no longer a Code A seed on the line. Somehow I have the feeling it might have something to do with the incident between CoCa and HongUn, please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, hope you get GOM's support back om 2012 because I had the impression the Code A seed encouraged more and more koreans to participate in the Korean Weekly.

For me personally it doesn't really matter. The Korean Weekly is awesome and I will continue to watch and support you regardless.

PS: ...but I have to admit I miss CoCa so much in the Korean Weekly... :'(

Korean weeklies are the biggest, and one of the few, windows into the world of up and coming korean pros. Thanks a lot for this it's an awesome thing to watch.

Even these less known players show such insane skills.

Um, that's epic, it's really a shame that there aren't any Code A seeds anymore but I'm sure whoever wins it has enough skill to pass the qualifiers, hopefully it'll continue to be a great production in the new year, so much talent and now a bigger prize pool.

How are you dealing with the issue of wanting to release replays vs wanting to have more premier Koreans playing?
Are you still planning to release replays, and will this affect the player pool?

The partnership with GOM is still alive and kicking. There was many parts to it including promotion that will still be going on. The lack of Code A was my decision.

CoCa is also still qualified for the Grand Prix #1 if I get Cella or Jessica's approval.

I am undecided, but I think the current model is not working. I might have to do something where we only release replays that are over 45 days old or something, like I said though, not 100% sure.

As much as possible yes, the one thing about him being so awesome is he is pretty in demand now and I cannot pay him the same thing companies like NASL do. He loves the tournament though and I hope to have him on as much as possible.

However NASL in particular refuses to work with me on scheduling, or even talk to me about it to find a common ground so idk exactly.

WOW

Really excited to see the ESV Grand Prix :D

Should be some insane competition. Just curious though, do you know how you're going to handle the player list if Taeja someone breaks into the Top 4 multiple times?

Yep. Actually two fold.

1: The player that qualifies multiple times is completely ignored aside for the first time they qualified for the highest seed out of the bunch. Go down the list after. This is no different then before.

2: Players that qualify for a top seed multiple times (ie: multiple 1st place finishes) will get the reward of having a completely clear group (2nd seed gets moved to the pool of selectable players) and will pick their entire group first.

So for Grand Prix #1, Taeja will start in Group 1 with 1st seed, and will pick his entire group before any other picks. Crank with a 1st place finish could be right in line also.

So what happens if there is an odd number of slots? Would you have to have players play like 5-6 place matches?
