So basically MLG Providence code S prize was an unintentional bait and switch, made by GOM? wtf.

Bait and switches are illegal, in the US at least i think. This is not ok by GOM.

Uhh, bait and switch? What did they bait Naniwa to do? Are you suggesting he wouldn't have played MLG Providence if he knew that he couldn't win a Code S spot in it?

Nothing that occurred here is illegal, btw.

Of course it isn't illegal. But neither was Naniwa throwing the match. Essentially, GOM appears to be guilty of the same poor professionalism that they accuse Naniwa of in their statement.

You say of course, but I was directly responding to someone who said it was illegal.

this is becoming very lame it is just naniwa its not huk or idra or sen or any much loved progamer in korea, it was naniwa's own fault for losing on purpose in any otehr spot he would be banned for at least 2 years if not life. lets wrap up this topic

Naniwa vs Nestea has nothing to do with this topic.

They had removed the Code S spot before Blizzard Cup. It was not because of Naniwas actions.

from what i seem to remember the deal between gom and mlg was that mlg would invite 4 koreans and place them in championship play -1 in each pool - while gom would give code S seed to highest noncode S player at MLG. This happened throughout the regular MLG stops.

But Providence was the final for the year, there was no championship play and no seeded koreans, the entire bracket was made from the previous tour placements so basically gom was not given 4 free seeds as before, simply players were seeded according to previous MLG results. No championship bracket at Providence. Hence why there is no reciprocity in the deal for Providence imo. MLG did not seed korean players they did a seed of their best 16 players from the year, hence no reason for Gom to award a code S spot, they did award 2 Blizzcup invitationals.

If MLG did seed 4 koreans in their bracket not based on previous mlg results, then gom should award code S seed, otherwise i see no reason for them to do so.

I don't get why. They could just ban Naniwa for 1 month which would basically mean they took his spot away and I guess that'd be okay for everyone after a few days of drama. (Maybe a bit to harsh but well, not really overboard) But what they're doing here seemes just extremly unprofessional. :/

MLG paid and invited for four koreans to attend MLG, the news is somewhere on the MLG site

Foreigners bending over to Korea, sounds similar to NASL. They know people want to watch Koreans play and with that card in their hand, they can get away with things as they please.

Sounds like not-NASL since they decided to not bend to the ultimatums issued by the koreans.

It's because they need to cite a rule he has broken in order to ban him, and he hasn't broken any rules.

I agree that the discussion of whether GOM's actions here (in not alerting MLG sooner that the Providence winner was going to BlizzCup and not GSL January) could be discussed without reference to Naniwa or his actions.

However, realistically, it seems unlikely people will actually discuss one without the other.

I have stood by GOM during the Naniwa situation because I think he got what he deserved. This is something else entirely though. Troubling, to say the least. I have GOM clarifies soon.

Same here, I would rather them just say they revoked the code S spot due to his conduct than say he never had it. But the real question is wtf happened between MLG and GOM? Seems quite odd that MLG is willing to say that they didn't know about it but it's within their rights to do it. Shouldn't they be really upset with this? Why aren't they? In the very least it must have been a verbal agreement? If there was a contract involved then wouldn't it be within MLG's rights to take action against GOM? Was there no contract or do Korean contracts just not work like that? Maybe MLG feels so dependent on getting GSL players they don't want to say anything else?

I would like to know what the actual terms of agreement were originally that caused MLG to promise this stuff.

Regardless of whether or not Nani "earned" a code S invite, he threw it away by disrespecting GOM, his opponent, and the viewers. I hope GOM doesn't feel pressure to reverse their decision because so many vocal posters on Teamliquid don't understand the meaning of respect.

I'm really sick of this whole controversy because no matter how many level-headed evaluations are posted, there are so many people that will never understand.

OK, so that statement IMO now makes GOM look like asses... They were supposed to give it to him due to the agreement between MLG and GOM, yet they do not...

And to think that 3 days worth of intense drama could've been avoided if Naniwa just did a half assed 4 gate.
