Even if they had the right to do so (I'm not sure where did u find that line about adjusting spots) they should inform about the change to Naniwa immediately after they made it. Naniwa thought that he had code s spot until yesterday. Totally unprofessional from GOM side.

That's such bullshit.

The blizzard cup has absolutely nothing to do with Code S. If 2 players already in Code S would have finished 1 and 2 they would still be in blizzard cup and for exemple Naniwa finishes 3rd, he wouldn't be in Blizzard cup, but he would be in Code S.

Blizzard cup seeds were already set and completely independant from the LXP. Gom has been retarded in the whole issue. They are just trying to find excuses to kick Naniwa out of Code S, but every time their excuse is dumber and dumber. Just tell shiw how they are and you don't have to look stupid with dumb excuses. it applies for everything not just Starcraft.

Gom really dropped the ball on that one. Say you think what he did was wrong and he doesn't deserve a Code S spot as a punishment. Give him a Code A spot or whateevr, but the whole excuse bullshit thing of trying to find a reason to kick him out and trying to use every excuse they can think of is just stupid.

They're not entitled to it, but if GomTV calls unprofessionalism in a player based on "progaming spirits, attitude and unwritten rules" then I reserve my right to call them biased, childishly rude and unprofessional based on their lack of information with official partners and contending players.

i don't understand people who keep saying things like this, can you honestly not see how the biggest ever foreign tournament not really having the prize it claimed it did is not a fucking enormous scandal? there doesn't need to just be an apology to naniwa, there should be an apology to every player who played in that tournament and to MLG.

Yup, why the fuck did GOM let us operate under that pretense for a month?

"the change was made without notification to MLG "
Yeah. They totaly didn't do that just after what Naniwa did to punish him. No Way. GomTv has to f**ing realise that we are not stupid and they can not be a next Kespa and do what they want. There are enough other Tournaments to bring us high level matches Gom!!

The problem is in fact that they changed something without notifying their PARTNER MLG who IS ENTITLED to know that "Hey we are changing the exchange program reward for providence from CODE S to BLIZZARD CUP."

the problem is that the players who went to MLG thought the prize was a code s spot. and, then, after naniwa wins because leenock had code s already (and who wanted a code s spot), GOM is saying that the code s spot was never the prize.

so, either,

GOM is lying and they changed their policy after the fact, which makes them shady towards both naniwa (taking the spot away) or MLG (MLG paid to have four koreans come over, but they got a position in blizzcup, not the more prestigious code s spot)

or

MLG misrepresented the prize pool (either intentionally (doubtful) or GOM hadn't told them about the change, which leaves MLG holding the bag because they made an inaccurate representation regarding the code s spot).

either way, the person who gets harmed is the player (although MLG is harmed as well), based on something outside of the player's control (i.e., communication between GOM and MLG).

Well... By NOT notifying anyone, they have made MLG lie to the players and the fans. MLG said that the price for winning MLG Providence was GSL Code S. We, as the viewers, always thought that that was on the line. GOM could have contacted MLG and told them that they had changed things up, but didnt.

So, no, they didnt do anything wrong, but its really unprofessional.

This is rediculous.
What a shame an organization has to change their rules and come up with some bullsh** excuse to protect "?". I think people behaving differently are a blessing. If everybody is super nice and super polite it just bores me to hell.

The whole last year i bought gom.tv products, but this will end now, can go back to ripped version, no need to support this crew anymore.

This is a real blunder by GOM. I hope that they come up with a good explanation for this! Changing the way of seeds without telling anyone? Seriously? Stupid!

Yep, just as everyone was saying: GOM is lying to protect themselves.

There is a thisisgame article from late november that states that it hasn't been decided whether the winner/runnerup of mlg providence gets code S. Not lying at all; Koreans knew about it, no one else did.

Actually no, they aren't entitled. Read MLG's statement: "it is within GSL's jurisdiction to adjust placement." Unless they worded their statement poorly, that essentially means GOM had the right to change their mind at any time according to their agreement with MLG.

3 Days later and Europe is still mad. Just let it go. Naniwa apologized to them. They have been changing the GSL setup for months, it's not exactly a conspiracy theory.

he said MLG was entitled to know about the change, not that they were entitled that changes not be made.

* Reposting my opinion froma previous thread since this is now the current thread for it.

This is not ok, regardless of the fact that Gom is of course allowed to change their own format they sure as hell should be informing their partners of stuff like that. MLG told Naniwa he earned a seed, mlg wrote articles claiming it as such and during the casting itself Tastosis talked about it since several players were in contention for the seed everyone thought existed. Can you imagine the devastation someone like Hero or Boxer would have felt if they thought they'd won their way to code s only to be denied ( since the only free spots in the new format are the sponsored international spots). Certainly that misconception would have been cleared up faster by gom but still they'd have a few hours maybe a few days of celebration before it's all ripped away because of a communication error.

This goes beyond the Naniwa debacle to the fact that Gom massively failed to notify MLG of a very important change in a business deal with potentially far reaching implications. Changing the prize while irritating is within their rights but not informing their partner who then ends up going ahead and awarding a prize that no longer exists because they weren't told about it is problematic.

MLG's saying: "Do whatever you want with your own tournament but don't expect us to cover for you."

Yeah right. What's funny is that this is their claim, which is preposterous in the first place. But, the reality is that they decided to change it after they didn't like the results (ie. NaNi in Code S) and that's what makes this such garbage by GOM.

They decided to change it 'cause they found out there are some players in the SC2 foreigner pro gaming community that can't deal with loosing and (NaNi words) "didn't know what being a pro gamer meant". They took the opportunity to rebuild the system while filtering a player that showed a childish and unprofessional behavior whom they want nothing to do with. Are they to blame for setting such standards and wanting the participants in the most competitive player in the world to act like grown ups and honor the values of responsibility, dedication and work ethic?

Seriously, this is getting really annoying. Nobody in good faith and the right mindset would defend NaNiWa in this one. And as far as MLG is concerned, they have no leverage at all. At this stage, MLG absolutely needs the Koreans. So GOM can do whatever they want to do. They are the owners of the best tournament in SC2.
