This sums it up for me, pretty much.

This whoooooooooooole situation got fucked. Whether you wanna say its Naniwa's fault or GOMs fault, really doesn't matter to me.

It's good to know that the Code S spots were actually just temptation on a stick that could be whisked away at any time. /sarcasm

Misscomunication between MLG and GOM calls for an apology on the person affected. That being Naniwa.

Yep, just as everyone was saying: GOM is lying to protect themselves.

This is just effing ridiculous.

GOM is a joke. How can you respect a company which is doing things like that?

Both MLG and GSL should apologize Naniwa. It has nothing to do with Naniwa incident.

They didn't lied and they had the right to do so, it was not against the rule. But doing it without telling anyone was seriously unprofessional.

Naniwa got punished, because he was unprofessional. But, what he did was not against the rule.

Weird, is in it?

Yeah this is a huge fail of communication. Stuff like this could really hurt both organizations. It might make future deals and exchanges very difficult, seeing as MLG will not be happy with this rule swap. GG to bad communication. Seems to happen all the damn time.

I have to agree. I doubt GOM is some evil corporation out to destroy the world through Starcraft.

Who would have thought so much drama would occur over a worker rush?

It's almost unbelievable....naniwa gets punished for acting unprofessionally and then GOM does even worse (imo) and nothing happens...

This is getting more and more embarrassing.

If you read the statement from GOM, Naniwa was never actually given the spot in the first place, but was simply considered as one among many:

"NaNiWa has been considered as one of the players to receive a Code S seed for the 2012 GSL Season 1 as a part of the this new seeding system due to his recent impressive results."

From GOMs statement, MLG Providence had no special standing on the giving of the code S spot. It was a tournament among others. Rather, the 'prize' from GOM was the Blizzard Cup:

"It seems like a lot of people have been under the impression that NaNiWa has received a Code S seed for taking 2nd place at MLG Providence. The truth however is that NaNiWa has received the right to compete in the Blizzard Cup for his 2nd place achievement at MLG Providence."

The stories still don't match up. Naniwa has owned uo to his mistakes. Why do MLG/GOM refuse to take any responsibility? If one part feels wronged, you should make that clear as well.

I really don't see the problem. MLG's statement says "it is within GSL's jurisdiction to adjust placement," thus GOMs agreement with MLG was subject to change by GOM if they decided they wanted to change their format. They had the right to change the Providence seeds to blizzard cup instead of code S, and they chose to do so. MLG, Naniwa, nor anyone else was entitled to notification.

Sure GOM changed the prize (code S seed ---> blizzard cup spot), but according to their agreement with MLG (apparently) they had the right to do so. If their contract allows them to make a change, and they want to make a change, why shouldn't they?

Well this doesnt sound good
It reminds me of WCG Italy

I'll tell you guys something disgusting that happened recently in WCG Italy.
The company responsible for WCG in Italy told everybody there would be two Starcraft 2 slots available from the italian live qualifier for the Grand Final in South Korea. Since the competition is not that high in Italy and I'm the only known international player in the country everybody was aiming for the second place slot and many people came for this.

During the tournament, when the semifinals were about to be played, they informed everyone they changed the number of people going to Korea to 1 for Starcraft 2. They took away the prize from many people wanting it. In the end I qualified and the second place (StarEagle, very good italian player, worthy of representing the country in WCG Grand Final) got absolutely nothing. They took away the prize from him during the tournament he was playing. Problem is players feel powerless and we don't know what to do except informing people in this manner.

i don't understand people who keep saying things like this, can you honestly not see how the biggest ever foreign tournament not really having the prize it claimed it did is not a fucking enormous scandal? there doesn't need to just be an apology to naniwa, there should be an apology to every player who played in that tournament and to MLG.

Well this is really unprofessional. I am amazed how calm and grown up the MLG team is. I can imagine some people would rage at their "business-partners" for doing this, screaming and threatening. But MLG keeps calm, this is not sarcasm, I think this is a professional move by MLG, and I am positively surprised.

But MLG please make sure players and fans can be sure that what you declare as a prize really is going to be handed to the winner. Code S for foreigners is a huge prize, its fame, fanbase, its still the Mekka of sc2, to me code S would probably mean more than "just" money.

It might be legal in Korea to change a contract afterwards and withouth the contractpartner knowing and/or accepting this, I am not a good korean lawyer, but I am pretty sure, that even with the culture clash, this must be highly unrespectfull, not only in America and Europe but also in Korea.

I don't want to jump on the gom-hate-bandwagon but I really hope that the responsible persons at GOM realize how unrespected MLG and foreigner fans (and Naniwa) have to feel right now.

Naniwa did GOM dirty by not playing hard but it wasn't against the rules. So GOM does naniwa dirty by taking some backdoor technicality. eye for an eye standards haha

Get the feeling of GOM being this kid bully, they don't like Naniwa so they start to change the rules in order to punish him.
