So basically MLG Providence code S prize was an unintentional bait and switch, made by GOM? wtf.

Bait and switches are illegal, in the US at least i think. This is not ok by GOM.

Uhh, bait and switch? What did they bait Naniwa to do? Are you suggesting he wouldn't have played MLG Providence if he knew that he couldn't win a Code S spot in it?

Nothing that occurred here is illegal, btw.

Nothing Naniwa did was illegal too, btw.

Agreed; I never said or intended to say otherwise.

Same here, I would rather them just say they revoked the code S spot due to his conduct than say he never had it. But the real question is wtf happened between MLG and GOM? Seems quite odd that MLG is willing to say that they didn't know about it but it's within their rights to due it. Shouldn't they be really upset with this? Why aren't they? I would like to know what the actual terms of agreement were originally that caused MLG to promise this stuff.

The way I read this release is that MLG is fairly upset at this development, and the way they're expressing their disapproval is by leaving GOM hanging out to dry like this. Their statement could have easily covered everyone's asses, but they've decided to release this statement instead. I don't think MLG is very happy with GOM at the moment.

IS THERE A RULES WHICH STATES THAT GOM CAN'T CHANGE THE PRIZE?! IF NOT, THEN THEY'RE IN THEIR RIGHTS.

(Me, trying to defend the way people seem to defend naniwa)

Seriously, noone is making sound arguments. Can we just get past this. Please. Let's all be friends.

Yup and it was sort of obvious that MLG were never contacted as Lee and other MLG representatives asked everyone to wait until they release their own response. -_-

So much attention to something so petty, shrug.

Haha yeah. I mean, this statement pretty directly says GOM was within their rights to act as they did.

That's really going to hurt MLG in later legal action against GOM.

It's not about Naniwa anymore.

No, it's about a sense of hurt pride and fanboyism. GOM has been changing the GSL format for a while now, well before Naniwa's game.

The foreigner community wasn't very well informed about the situation. For some reason, people assumed that he got both a Blizzard Cup invite and Code S invite for placing in Providence.

From GOM's perspective, I'd imagine they thought it was pretty clear when they said that the Providence top players would get into the Blizzard cup, it was instead of a Code S seed, which isn't too much of a stretch considering the LXP was only for the duration of 2011 and the next Code S is in 2012.

They thought of also invite Naniwa into code S January anyway, as one of the top foreigners (just like how Idra and Sen are getting in,) so everyone thought he was getting a seed from Providence, and we didn't hear otherwise until they decided he wasn't eligible for the invitation. I think the Koreans all knew what was going on, it just didn't make it to the foreigners.

They obviously made this decision before the Blizzard cup (or else Naniwa wouldn't have been there, ) and it was probably before Providence as well.

Regardless of whether or not Nani "earned" a code S invite, he threw it away by disrespecting GOM, his opponent, and the viewers. I hope GOM doesn't feel pressure to reverse their decision because so many vocal posters on Teamliquid don't understand the meaning of respect.

I'm really sick of this whole controversy because no matter how many level-headed evaluations are posted, there are so many people that will never understand.

Well it's the MLG prize that changed...so that makes it weird. MLG takes first responsibility since they were making that promise, we need to know what their actual agreement with GSL was.

In the very least it must have been a verbal agreement? If there was a contract involved then wouldn't it be within MLG's rights to take action against GOM? Was there no contract or do Korean contracts just not work like that? Maybe MLG feels so dependent on getting GSL players they don't want to say anything else?

I would like to know what the actual terms of agreement were originally that caused MLG to promise this stuff.

i doubt these huge organizations are going to let you look at their proprietary business agreements. MLG said they didn't violate the agreement and their opinion really is the only one that matters since they are the only ones that can enforce the agreement.

If you think so please leave these threads because you don't get the problem. It's about an tournament and prizes which changed after the tournament was played.

So GOM changed code S to Blizzard cup without telling MLG, Naniwa or the community? Everyone thought, rightfully so, that he had a code S spot.
I don't believe this, they are just changing their version of what happened to cover up mistakes.

Whatever happened, GOM should give Naniwa a code S spot and MLG, the community aswell as Naniwa an apology because they look really stupid right now!

Or if GOM just gave Naniwa some sort of warning, changed their rules, changed the tournament format, and carried on.

Well GOM invented a rule in order to ban Naniwa so I bet we can invent a rule for MLG to punish GOM. Seriously, professional misconduct from one party does not justify it for another.

Soon enough we will no longer see Koreans participating in foreign events and we will be right back to BW. Koreans are going to isolate themselves again with shit like this happening.

The way most of this community has been shitting on GOM I could really see them saying fuck it to any type of exchange program.

By the end of 2012 SC2 will be non-existant in foreign lands, just like BW was.

WTF. Counter statement or some correction needed from GOM's side imo. This fucking probe rush is getting out of hand.
