This is tyranny I say. Because of the last sentence I'm assuming you're trolling, but they have already stated that group stage of GSL going forward will be BO3 and that they are taking additional days to cast every game, yet the entire last year was BO1 and people didn't hate on it until WCG did the same thing AND after this shitfest started. If you're going to throw shit at an organization at least be consistent.
no one complained? yes we did, hence why the fromatis changing lol...

So all the drama around players fighting for a code S spot at MLG providence was artificial?
The way MLG portrayed it that code S spot was part of the prize pool, not a simple possibility.
|
Funny how no comments were made on mlg articles about the Code S spot. If you had asked anyone before this happened if Naniwa was playing in Code S next season, 100% would have said yes.
|
I think GOMTV is right here even if the die hard Naniwa fans can't accept it.
I thought it was a slight overkill until they pointed out that the MLG second place was for Blizz Cup rather than Code S, now I can't see any issues with this what so ever.
And that wasn't really a punishment, they merely reconsidered who they were going to give the chance in Code S after Naniwas actions. Placing 3rd in both NASL and Blizzcon aren't that much worse results than what 0-10 has been putting out.

1. No apology for slandering naniwa live 2. The whole giving seed to Sen/Idra based on performance when we know its because of their fan base ( stop lying and be honest for once) 3. Lying about the whole Naniwa Providence Seed part ( if you never gave him a code S spot then how the heck can you punish him by taking it away).
Sorry but there is no way i will ever support GOM in the future. I for one will vote with my wallet and not buy anymore tickets and I will tell all my friends to avoid it as well
1)Slander? You mean the Mr Chae post? The person who first posted the crappy translation already said he got it from another 3rd party source. A more accurate translation is posted and is not slandering at all.
2) If they went purely on fanbase, sen would not have been chosen. There are many players much more popular than sen. 3) If you read the post, they said its 2 seed invite system. Naniwa was considered to be on top of the list of invites due to his performance at MLG Providence. However, they removed him from that list after that throwing away game action which makes sense. Second at Providence only guaranteed an invite to Providence which he was given.

I can't believe people are swallowing this up so easily. This is not a good statement and doesn't justify what they did at all, at least not completely.

the thing I also dislike is that idrA gets a code S spot when HuK has a chance of being dropped down to code A; HuK did better than idrA's 4th place finish at Orlando and he did better than him in Providence. IdrA gets a free pass to code S when Huk did better while having to fly back and forth between tournaments to play GSL matches.

I will still not be buying another subscription until Naniwa is in code S, one way or another

They think they're 100% correct and only blame NaNiwa. Hopefully Blizzard won't give the next SC2 contract to you but to KeSPA. That is probably because factually they are 100% correct. Having a "pointless" game in the tournament is not "good" but is not part of the issue. Naniwas unprofessional behaviour is. And Naniwa takes 100% of the heat and GOMtv none. Naniwa is the villain who should apologize and have his balls clipped. All this did is further empower GOM as a league above all of SC2 esports, intentional or not, and fans/players are willing to sit back and take it. GOM IS NOT AT FAULT. Bitch all you want, but GOM IS NOT AT FAULT. Thats why Naniwa/Quantic made an excuse and GOM is only writing an explanation. GOM IS NOT AT FAULT. Also: The punishment isn't really "hard".. A Korean probably would get a livetime ban for doing something like this... GOM had no rules against it. They had inconsequential matches. This NEVER happened in GSL, because when a match goes 2-0 you don't play the third. The one time it did happen it was blatant match fixing and punished. They hyped the drama towards Naniwa. Naniwa/Quantic are making an excuse because they'll probably never fight with a league to save face with PR, but the fans aren't reserved to that luxury. And I probably wouldn't agree with any punishment a Korean might have received.
Losing a match on purpose is against everything any competetive sport is, let alone a professional sport. He even got paid to play this match. If you need a written rule against matchfixing/dropping, i'm sorry for you.

GOMTV is awesome and they pay for Tastosis so I <3 em even more!

What a weak post by GomTV. It doesn't address at all how *everyone* assumed that the the highest ranking player from MLG Providence (that wasn't already code S) would get the code S seed. They only now say "yeah, we changed our system, he wasn't garantueed to get it at all." That feels like they're conveniently making up the rules to fit the situation as they go. All news-posts regarding the MLG/GSL league exchange (including official announcements by the two leagues) were pretty clear on the matter. And suddenly it's different.
GomTV is taking zero responsibility for their poor tournament structure. Letting two players that are frustrated as hell from being knocked out 0-3 in such a high-stakes tournament play a meaningless match directly after is just a terrible idea. Almost no player would give his best in such a situation. If the group ran over an extended period of time and the players had some time to cool down, it would be a completely different story. Like NASL groups or any round-robin group in sports like football. Hell, GomTV doesn't play out the meaningless matches in the Up & Downs. Why did this match have to be played?
Regardless of whether Naniwas actions were disrespectful or not, I feel that GomTV is taking the easy way out here and shifting all the blame away from themselves. And that is not the correct representation of what happened.

"I'm sorry but this is a blantant lie. According to the mlg exchange program agreement:
'At every 2011 Pro Circuit Live Competition after MLG Columbus, GSL placement will occur as follows: Code S status will be awarded to the highest placing player, within the Top 3, regardless of country of origin, who does not already have Code S status.'
You don't have any grounds according to your terms of the agreement to make alterations from Code S to BLIZZARD CUP. Two completely different tournaments."
From http://www.gomtv.net/forum/view.gom?topicid=212470&cid=0&kind=8 (post by Kitkatz944) What it seems like GOM did here was punish Naniwa by changing a rule because he didn't really break a rule. Cool cool.
|
Well this statement did absolutely nothing to change my opinion of the situation regarding GOM especially since their only reasoning is Naniwa doesn't conform to their idea of a programer. It was a pointless show match that he shouldn't have had to play in the first place and because he didn't play it out and therefore doesn't fit their idea of a progamer he doesn't get to be in code S? Only thing this statement does is clear up some of the misinformation that most people had already figured out anyways.
|
So it basically says that they're making an example out of Naniwa. Still seems unsertan to me if Naniwa did or did not earn a code S spot in Providence. It doesnt really matter though, he was gonna play in code S, as a direct consequence of this controversy he now wont. It comes off as a direct punishment, and it's indeed a pretty hard one.
|
this is a joke, let him play
|
This is a dangerous dangerous precedence that GOMTV has set....

well kinda obvious more viwership has a direct link, Idra = amreican and europe tuning in regardless of what happened with Nani and Sen means the Taiwanese country will probably buy vierwship.
Now who else is a big star outside of korea they will also probably in future be picked for "previous tournament" experience :D

1) There was no live slandering of Naniwa, it was a bad translation that has since been recanted by the guy who posted it along with an apology. 2) E-Sports is a business and bringing in fan favorites such as Sen and Idra will make GOM a lot of money, which is a good business decision for GOM. 3) Better communication should exist between MLG and GOM, but let's face it, GOM/GSL is the NFL while MLG is the arena league. Clearly the competition at GSL is vastly superior to MLG on the whole, and GOM/GSL can do whatever they want because they are the bid dog and they know it. Yes, the bad communication upset me, but I am still going to watch because I love watching the best. Just like spygate in the NFL pissed me off like crazy because I felt the NFL was protecting the patriots, but the NFL has the best content so I continued to watch it. 4) Even those that think this is unwarranted admit that although Naniwa maybe should not have been punished he did not go about this situation in the IDEAL way. Blame is to be put on both sides, on Naniwa and GOM/GSL. 5) Move on and enjoy January GSL with Idra and Sen.
|
so why idra and sen? why not stephano? did you even talk to him?
GomTv really failed to make clear that MLG Providence didn't give a Code S seed.
