To make myself clear, without the fans there would be no OSL/MSL/GSL, so there wouldn't be any "winnings" for any "pro-gamer" to win. Thus, to say "he doesn't care to entertain but wants to win" - it's flawed because without entertaining there would be nothing to win.

You are severely misinformed, yes the fans are half the reason GOM and GSL operate, but you are daft for thinking that it is the supporters' money that is actually funding all of these events.

They are called sponsors, and regardless of who they get to play, where they are from or how many fans they have, they will always get sponsorship from corporations such as Intel or AMD. If they were counting on ticket sales to actually fund the running of the event they wouldn't have an event to begin with because they need the money first, is this making sense?

And such corporations are utilizing the sponsor-ships of players as one way to attract even more consumers... as for ticket sales, the more tickets sold leads to more viewers which also leads to potential new consumers because a corporation's brand is being exposed to an audience through the player...

I'll try and make my point a little clearer;

Without fans, sponsors will not act; Without sponsors, fans cannot access these events because they wouldn't exist.

Who then is more important? (Why i said they are only half the reason

With your verbage, even if one is more important than the other (and hell lets say sponsors are important cuz they have the $$$$), theoretically one can't exist without the other.

lol without $$$$ the game wouldn't even exist

Some ppl like TLO have a personality that is public friendly, some don't, that is the real world. Expecting everyone to be like TLO is utterly ridiculous and shows a lack of respect for other people's personalities. There will be individual approaches to playing the game, despite what one fan may see as an 'ideal' personality in their eyes.

i agree with him. I could care less about a game between 2 players that doesn't mean anything in a tourney. I wouldn't have watched the game.

Good on you Naniwa.

A translation of this article was posted on PlayXP. Just wondering if anyone has translated the comments? They must be hilarious considering Naniwa's comment about Koreans taking things too seriously.

Like I said in another thread. I hope he just shuts up, manners up and plays. His whining and jokes are old. I'm sick of all his reasons and excuses.

He seems to need an interview every day to explain everything. Nani how about you win a GSL series or something else of note and then you can start talking again. Right now hes more of a distraction than a good player. He needs to stop playing the villian role and just foucsing on his play and he will get results.

He says he wants to just shut up and play, but his actions obviously dont show this. JUST PLAY !!!

i understand the logic, but its kind of dumb. It never hurts to get more fans and not risk (and we saw the result). People do not respect quitters

Shit like what Naniwa did is why people think E-sports is a joke. Its also leaves you feeling like really... OMG. I paid to see this! Yet in a few days Naniwa will think all is fine...he'll get paid from his sponsors still...still cash a check from people watching his stream...

Yup..

This is Esports...

This is the mentality why competative gaming will never be taken serious anywhere else.
if the gamers itself don't take it seriously, how do you except anyone else to do so.

Which would suck for alota SC2 fans here, so because of that, (and I don't blame Naniwa either... plus like he would know that purposely losing a game like that would spark fireworks) wouldn't a sponsor want to sponsor something that would keep ANY negativity to a minimum? Yes, because of what Naniwa did, he's built (or enhanced) some notoriety within the SC2 fanbase. Fans have every right to blame him and criticize his actions because that's within a fans right (especially if you paid to watch the show), as long as they don't do anything extreme like endangering people's lives.

Would you invite someone with even a small hint of build up notoriety to your sponsored party, knowing that there's potential for that person to screw up everything you prepared for?

you peaple should stop talking about respect as long as you dont show respect towards nani yourself.

it is his and only his busines what he does ingame. you can like it or dislike it, thats your personal freedom. still he can do what ever he wants to. i guess he was upset because he lost 0-3 and just didnt want to play anymore. hes not a machine but a human and if you lose an important match or tournemant i can totaly understand that he was very upset.

you peaple make 2 much noise because of this.

also, those players aint playing for you, but for themself, because they like the game. otherweise they could invest all that time in something else.

and its actually very sad 2 see that all you peaple have nothing better 2 do than bitching about something small like this.
and talking about respect. lol

its his game, his career, his reputation not yours so you shouldnt talk about other peaples busines.

if you like 2 watch naniwa play, than watch his games-> if you dont like 2 watch him play than just do something else.

also i would like 2 point out that its not true that a fan has some kind of rights...

you dont!

naniwa can do in his matches what the heck he wants.
also publicity is good, no matter if its bad or good, so hes not hurting esports at all.

also 80% of you trolls behave alot worse than him.

That doesn't justify what Naniwa did. Whether the game should or shouldn't have happened is irrelevant to how a professional gamer should approach an official match.

When professional sports teams have no hopes of making the playoffs they still play out their remaining games, because they're playing for their fans, not only themselves. What Naniwa did was childish, and his response in this interview is only further proof of his immaturity by trying to justify his actions.

Edit: And I can't believe he actually dropped Stephano's name in this interview ("but he did it too!") This isn't about Stephano. This is about you Naniwa. Grow up.
Arrested for what, baby? Being awesome?

I was shocked that people were so outraged about this. Sure, it would've been better for him to just proxygate or something but I don't think his probe rush deserves all this uproar. Reading some of the harsh words people were tweeting about Nani (particularly the koreans) left me very confused. So much drama over what seems like a very insignificant event. Ideally Naniwa would've just played it out but the game probably shouldn't have happened in the first place.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

bullshit, when fans invest their time and money to watch the tournament, anything that happens becomes their business as well. Like I said, no one cares if Naniwa does 7 probes or 10 probes during his own free ladder time. But when he does it in an official tournament, regardless of the circumstance, it's completely different.

Since in the end the fan gets to decide whether to like or dislike what he does... afraid to show your true account because you'll get exposed for contradicting yourself

There's nothing to take seriously. Naniwa did something inconsequential and the quick-to-pitchforks community got upset. Why shouldn't I laugh at the shitstorm? It's hilarious.
