Imagine a second if Rafael Nadal came into his last match at the Masters of London and just threw the game away intentionaly because "there was nothing to fight for". Imagine for a second how people, press and sponsors would have react.
If you want eSport to go big, you have to act like a professional.
PS : What is pretty depressing is the attitude of you all that consider this not a big deal... That means everything about how low you think about our SPORT. thank you !

Now watch his reaction when one of the 8 best players in the world decides to just dont give a fuck about a match. In any other sport people would still fight to make the outcome a little bit better.

Anyone who doesn't think that professional sports teams don't give away games doesn't watch sports.
It happens all the time towards the end of the season in the NBA.

Nope i was a huge fan of naniwa before all this, i knew he had a troubled past but i thought he had changed. I have been a huge fan of his ever since he made that meatyowllegs account and got first on the ladder. Thing is hes lied and had a terrible attitude too many times.
We all know now that he didnt choose to leave complexity obviously they wanted him off the team asap for reasons exactly like this and he lies to us to save face by telling us it was his choice to leave the team (i kind of thought it was bullshit while i was listening to the interview but i wanted to beleive him)
Now he pulls a similair action, after talking trash to nestea at the press conference and telling him to relax, pretty much hyping up their games, he basically forfeits the game to save face (or what he thinks is saving face) because he knows he could easily lose face for a game that means nothing, and he doesnt want to lose face for nothing.

I think this is pretty much accurate for the majority of his fans. The problem is it's not just about his fans, it's about his team and their sponsors, and of course GOM. If GOM doesn't approve of what he did, then of course he can be in trouble. I don't know if they have any rules regarding situations like this, but even if they don't I doubt they'll let him off without any sort of punishment. And of course this can hurt his team if any of the sponsors don't appreciate what he did. He's there to represent his team, and if they don't think he represented it professionally, then it really doesn't matter what he thinks. They're the ones paying for him.

So you would like more effort in pretending? We're basically talking of how much of a poser you're supposed to be before it's ok to lose. Institutionalized hypocrisy is a result of and a problem with bad tournament-formats. I can't think too harshly on players that don't go along with make-believe games. It's a compatition, not a game-show.

Meaningless game but still people complain... i lol'd Its GOM TVs fault, not of any players.
Every single comment will make Naniwa even more popular, bad reputation = best reputation! Worked great with Idra haters!
feed him!!!!! ))

He's done some dumb shit, but his play has always made me stay a fan. And I will still stay a fan. But this is disheartening. In the professional world of sports, shit can happen, and I get that. + Show Spoiler +In a old Formula 1 race, Senna had the championship won basically, but not on lockdown (a no point race, while his main rival won would have lost it) so Senna basically crashed his opponent in the first turn on the first lap to ensure that couldn't happen. Disgraceful? Maybe. A Professional 'win no matter what' mindset? I think so. But honestly, fuck.... if the game doesn't matter, just do something dumb. Proxy dual stargate, or forge expand to his natural, or just 5 gate zealots. Anything. At least give a good time, or play an autopilot cheesy build. If you are too crushed to do something right, I get that... but you ARE a professional. And professionals do their job. I'll stay a fan... but a lot of respect was lost. Why is doing an "autopilot cheesy build" professional but what he did isnt? If he is a professional and professionals do their job like you said, wouldnt he have to play his absolute best every game? Because it sounds to me like youre saying he should have done some bs strategy where he more than likely would have lost anyway, like a probe rush... How is tricking the fans into thinking hes trying better than what he did? That makes no sense. Because.. it's the difference in letting substitute players play a meaningless game compared to a team lets say... shoots his own soccer ball into his own goal. Or they just all fuck each other mindlessly on the field. Okay not the greatest example but I hope you understand.
I understand what youre saying, but my point is youre going to get the same crappy effort either way, just one way the fans are tricked into thinking he actually cares. I would rather he did what he did than try some proxy gate or 4 gate just so it doesnt look as bad.

And that Rafael Nadal comparison is ridiculous, its nothing like that. Unless I'm mistaken, in the last match of a tennis tournament you are still able to win the entire tournament, but in naniwas position nothing he could have done that game would have made any difference in his tournament standing. Bad analogy.

BO5 Losing 3 sets = losing the BO5. Nadal would have played all sets and all matches in the tournament.
Naniwa did not play all matches in this tournament. If Naniwa instead withdrew (retired to maintain tennis analogy) from the tournament because he said he was sick/wrists were hurting no one would have batted an eye.

don't run meaningless matches if you don't want apathetic players..

They still field a team and do not hand the ball over to the opposing team.

Well I sure hope this is serious enough for some action, hurts me inside that Complexity dumped him on Quantic I'm a huge Destiny fan and I don't want this guy on the same team it's just ridiculous. Destiny however not the most skilled is the perfect example on how to play your games. Down 3-5 bases to a terran no problem keep playing til the end.

Im glad from what iv read no one is really shitting on Nani for doing this as it is respectable what he did. If there isnt anything to play for I personally wouldnt really "show up" either lol. Nani dosnt have the strongest mental state which tends to get a bit more fragile when he loses especially close games strung togather like that which is understandable as well. Like IdrA did he just needs to improve on that aspect a bit an he'll be owning it up in the GSL Good job though Nani an gl in the future

I see this mainly as GOMTV's fault although Nani should have just played some random all in like a 4 gate. No big thing still a fan of him.
|
People blowing things out of proportion because it's Naniwa, again. A match that decides nothing, why would I bother watching a 20+ minute drawn out game that's played half heartedly by both players? Oh well, like usual, haters gonna hate.
|
This was totally unprofessional. This whole event is for the fans, where the best gets to play each other. This idiot threw away the game that the fans wanted to see the most, rematch of MLG.
If it did not matter to the fans, gomTV would not even have broadcasted it. This is not just a random game. These players in Blizzcup were paid around $1000 just to play in the first round. This kid got paid and did not even fulfill his duty has a professional. This was not a simple one game, like ones you play in ladder.
It was unprofessional, childish, and this kid better not receive any code S or code A seed from MLG or ne other tournaments in the future.
|
This is a disgrace to all foreigners in the scene. He should forfeit his GSL status for such a lack of character. CoCa threw his match and he forfeited his status.
Give us Naniwa's head.
Not all foreigners are like this!

In my opinion Naniwa behavior is shameful, he is a pro gamer yet he keeps doing this like this. At MLG providence his calling the event a joke and now he goes and throws a game at GOM, He is taking prize money home for just attending he owed them and us to play out the game. If he keeps this up there wont be a team in Korea will to practice with him. Plus he owes his diehard fans better.
|
For people blaming the tournament structure, sure, it was not optimal. But naniwa knew this going in and he choose to participate. This is different from tennis where you lose the first 3 sets out of 5 because the rules state the game is over and you don't have to play. It is more like the end of a regular season like NBA where teams still have to play. Players still have to go through the motions.
