Massive let down for the fans but it happens anyways. Handegg teams will end games just straight up early, ![]() And that's massive amounts of sponsorship money - player money - ad money gone. Huge implications for the teams and their supporters. And you know what? It's accepted. No one wants to see two dead men walking slap each other around for 15 minutes before a random retarded loss. I feel bad for naniwa going 0-2 and honestly. I'd be crushed if I were him. Good luck man. <3 What the hell is with everyone coming up with these terrible sports metaphors that have no relevance to what happened with naniwa. They walk amazing batters strategically because if they let them hit and they get a home run the team has a greater chance of losing then letting him walk a base. There is strategy behind that. There is no strategy to sending out 7 probes and taking your hands off the keyboard.

The inability to recognize that other professional leagues have matches that are played with no possibility of going to the championship, yet games are still not handed over to opposing teams is more alarming. I think you are referring to games where teams are eliminated from playoff contention (NBA, NFL, etc.). I'd have to disagree with you because in those cases the results of the games affect other teams (playoff positioning, draft positioning, etc.) while in this case the game was 100% meaningless and had no effect on other players.

Wearing your heart on your sleeve is one thing, but it is disrespectiful in the extreme to all those who watch and enjoy starcraft as a game not to provide said game. I watched Naniwa fail to gg in his GSL match out of frustration previously, and, while we expect him to be a prodigious talent, he has yet to build a legacy that is capable of overshadowing his current character issues.

To the comment above, Mr.Chae does not seem to be at all affected by this. In fact, he is already very excited about tomorrow's matches!

What's different in Korea is that I think they take professional gaming in higher regards than the western world; somewhat like how the western world see regular sports. Their mentality is that they will try to win and show good games.

He didn't rob me of anything, in fact i got a good chuckle out of the whole situation Then don't do some stupid strat and play one more game. How often do we get to see players like Naniwa and Nestea play? I don't care what is on the line because they have the talent to still make it incredibly entertaining. People payed to watch this tournament and he just wasted my money, that is worse than my time. The part where you are wrong is that there was something on the line, public opinion. You think this would be happening if he played a real game and said afterwards that the game didn't matter?

Do we know why young kids start to play starcraft or starcraft 2 after seeing SlayerS`BoxeR, Jaedong, Flash playing, and look up to them? Do we know why even the veterans of starcraft are trying to be like Slayers`BoxeR or White-Ra? Do we know why even now, some of iconic player who are not getting the best results and even getting worst results are respected most? Do we know why White-Ra can alone get a sponsor without needing a team? - Is it because they threw games, get aggresive all the time in tournaments or insult others (not meaning naniwa here, just trying to make a contrast for my point) or is it because they have this amazing grasp of professionalism? is it because they ignore their bad feelings during a performance and try best, even if it's an unnecessary match (BoxeR is one the best example for trying hard until the end) is it because they respect their work, their friends, their opponents and respect the "idea of respectful competetion"? Now, you can ask yourself, Do I want to be respected by the whole community like White-Ra or Boxer, Do I want to be looked up to regarding manners? or Don't I?... It's free to choose of course... But you should know that these names are there because, they added something from themselves whereever they've been to. -Hey Yo-Hwan Lim!, You need to play this unnecessary match sorry for this but this is the format of this tournament. -Hey it's no problem, I got beaten very hard by X, Y, Z, but whatever I will still deliver and fight for my fans, also because this is my job. The guy above get's respect, and gets recognized by sponsors, teams, tournament organizers because of his professionalism. The guy above will be loved by his fans. The guy above won't cause terrible discussions on teamliquid. The guy above knows what professionalism means.

I don't see a huge difference between giving up a game of starcraft and pre-agreeing draws in chess. They are both justified when nothing is on the line. If you are 'on tilt' in team sports you always have the team to cheer you up and a longer time between games. Therefore, the situation is more analogous to chess than to soccer.

In other sports such as tennis you might get suspended for lack of effort. Some universal regulation should be created by the biggest tournaments in order to prevent such an stupid thing - and other stuff like match fixing - from happening in the future.
