Everyone who watches LoL plays LoL. The majority of people who watch SC2 don't actually play it Source? There is 30 mln +/- people playing LoL. And only 2mln playin sc2.

![]() I think there is space for multiple games to exist and the communities to support them without hurting each other. I'm an SC2 fan, not LoL. I assume it works the other way around.

For sure we would have massive increase in viewer count. Fact is LoL has every day much more stream viewers than sc2 has. Without any big tournaments or announcements by Riot. It has simply the bigger player base. Sc2 fans should not always try to talk other games down, they can nicely exist next to each other. you should probably articulate your facts first, cause they're not true

WoW has a little over 10 million active players, so LoL would have around that.

I thought it was 30 million accounts, most of which were alts and it was only a couple million unique accounts. Well, sure. There's alt accounts in there. But 5-6 multis per person? Not really - the "leveling up" and champion purchasing makes it pretty strongly favoring just having 1 account (or perhaps 1 smurf account and one main, so you can smurf when playing with newbie friends rather than dragging in high-leveled opponents into the game who will crush them - not a very fun newbie experience). But how do you argue with 1.3mil logged in at the same time? (There isn't really any point in being logged in to multiple accounts at the same time) http://na.leagueoflegends.com/news/community-grows-32-million-players There's a lot more stats here than just # of accounts registered - take a look! By the way, this is a massive influx of new players within the last four months. Those year-old inactive accounts are a drop in the bucket. I suspect the opening of the Chinese server, coupled with a chinese team winning at IEM China not long ago, has aided this. If LoL starts winning over the massive chinese gaming community (again, F2P model helps here) of course then they're going to have some beastly numbers to show for it. LoL's newbie experience is a lot better than HoN, for sure. Starting players off at 1500 Elo is a huge mistake, and making a new player put up with 20+ games of feeding hardcore and being harassed by their own team before they get the hang of the game (even SC2 has a way better newbie experience than that. And SC2 isn't much of a newbie-friendly game. Shit, I'd argue even BW has a better newbie experience than that!) DotA1 is primarily a who-you-know whether you have a decent newbie experience or not. DotA2 i expect will be implementing much of the same system that LoL has, where you start off picking whether you're experienced or not, Because it has a friendly newbie experience, a lot of people have at LEAST tried out the game. As such, many players who do so are at least somewhat interested in watching top players play the game (out of curiousity, out of desire to improve, etc... you all see the popularity of streaming SC2 - LoL has the same effect.) even in disorganized "solo-q" settings, there are players who hit 20k viewers. When you remove that disorganized pub play atmosphere and put on a tourney that players have practiced for, it's that much more interesting to watch. Now, there IS much more downtime in LoL than SC2, and I don't think the current casters are great at filling airspace, so we'll see how the scene improves. But I think it will be going places, especially with Riot finally getting a publically available observer mode running.

It's obviously not going to so I don't see why people keeping hoping it to. I'm pretty sure MLG is going to add Lol to the circuit after this though, 90k before games even started is massive and I wonder how much it ended up finally getting. And this is mostly NA since none of the EU teams were participating in the event.

The competition will mostly be between LoL and Dota 2 in the foreseeable future, with Blizzard's Dota also being a possible contender depending on how they market Blizzard Arcade. LoL already has a successful platform across the world, so it is really the task of Valve and Blizzard to make something happen. A business model like LoL's will help - people, especially in poorer countries, will generally prefer F2P games over retail games or worse, games with subscription models. Assuming that Dota is eventually replaced, LoL is currently the game with everything going for it in terms of world-wide popularity, business model, and newbie friendliness. Until Dota 2 and Blizzard Dota can match that success, LoL is probably the safest market to go after, even if its not - in many people's eyes - a great eSport game compared to Dota/Dota 2.
