But yeah it totally sucks. I remember there being talk on TL about this months ago and rakaka.se made some charts ![[image loading]](http://www.rakaka.se/images/7774-rakaka_prize_money.jpg) Wow, MLG is earning its respect. Now I see what is the reason why IEM lag behind in terms of good players coming to its tournaments and the tournaments quality, the organization is just much poorer. MLG FTW. That's very interesting. Now we know why MLG has a smaller prize pool too, because they actually have the money in an acccount ready to send out to the players when the event finishes. That's how everyone should be doing it.
I really think other organizers should take example from MLG. It's not about prize money only, it's not about bringing just a few top Koreans, it all about top-notch organization which one can smell from kilometers away and ultimately will attract both players and viewers.

In HoN there was an organization who held a tournament. The winners waited months then started asking about where the money was. The organizer said that it was unprofessional of the players to complain about their prize money and thus revoked the winnings.
Pretty funny.

I guess some kind of player organisation who brings such things to public would be really good, also guys like ESWC would not be able to contact ClouD via PM, trying to threat him etc, if a "player union", who is more anonymous would speak out such things...

Instead of the big checks, an equal sized piece of cardboard with "IOU <insert amount here>" written on it would be more accurate.

That's just the problem -- apparently, some of them are not. No one is advocating a boycott of well run tournaments, where contracts are honored properly. But if there are sponsors who benefit from exposure at a tournament, but refuse to pay out, then they're not only not helping eSports, they're hurting it.
|
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but how about the sponsors/money providers putting the money into a trust account, where the players can be assured the money is in a 'safe' place?
|
I am glad to hear NASL paid... while there were some mishaps, they are really doing their best to run a professional tournament
|
You know, I expected NASL to be on the list of tourneys that had trouble paying out...only because they never revealed where the money came from, and at the time, it was a LOT of money.
But they've proven many skeptics wrong...it appears they had their stuff together and the prize pool ready.
Props to NASL! (And MLG/GSL)
Imo, there is no reason why a tournament should have more than 2 months delay. ESL is absolutely ridiculous. And although it's nice IPL is responding to players, I feel like for such a major tournament, they should have the money ready sooner. I know there is beaurocracyinvolved, but they can start the paperwork before the tournament starts to cut down on time.
|
Also, I kinda especially feel bad about NASL and the Korean withdrawal.
It seems that the problems that players had with NASL are not remotely as bad as the problems they are having with other tournaments...just more public.
I hope this helps players see which tourneys are legit, and which ones aren't, and support/participate in those that are legit.

SotG talking about this now.
|
Awesome that it is getting the recognition it deserves. Something needs to be done.
|
SOTG <3 This is rediculous by sponsors. There HAS to be more media on this topic where tournaments don't pay their winners in the tournament. I don't understand how ANYONE or any company can scramble to get money after the tournament has run..
|
Wow, I always thought players were literally payed the second the tournament ended. Hell, why should it be any different than that? Despicable.
|
YES bash the tournaments that are not paying the players.. it's good for esports, there's too many tournaments as it is right now, and the players will appreciate it
|
Just read this because of SotG.
This is atrocious. I hope Cloud and every other player get their money!

If a large group of tournament players feel the same about the monetary reward for performance (much in the same manner that other professional athletes do): it would not be crazy to create an e-sports players union, largely centered around the timely payment of rewards. Because players are individuals, with associations (teams/clans) existing but the team/clan not being payed together for performance (except 2v2's and other "team" oriented games, i.e. Counter-Strike), a players' union would not be an additional burden on tournament organizers so long as tournament organizers are operating in a proper manner. IF it is found that specific tournaments are not operating within the bounds of timely payment, then the members of the union could, in effect, strike and shutdown that tournament. If the professional players want their sport to grow, same as other sports, it would be in their best interest to seek legal counsel and treat it as a professional association of athletes, casters, and tournament organizers. This is something that should be reasonably worked out with a clear understanding prior to the tournament. These tournaments are livelihoods to many people. Up till now, e-sports have seemed an illegitimate and unprofessional athletic association. I think this is largely due to a lack of organization by the players themselves and not seeking proper representation in a manner guaranteeing action as a group. If you want to be treated as a professional, demand the same professional regard of those persons you work with (organizers and fellow players).

I suggest making a site and keeping track of the prize money debt to put the thieves to shame. I'd be more than glad to code the site and make it happen. Exposure = action = results.
sc2tournyshame.com sc2hallofshame.com sc2thieves.com event-thieves.com or whatever haha

Any professional must have a contract Or at least keep a copy of their agreements. And never enter a tournament without clear payment terms.
For those already having these issues please refer to your local labour ministry or family lawyer.

The biggest question that popped up for me was why a important thread like this was never spotlighted.
