im a protoss high gold to plat player but i dont actually think toss upgrades would have to be buffed, and i dont think the should have lowered the radius of EMP they should maybe just made it cost 100-125 energy instead so it would still be AS powerfull but youd have to w8 a little bit longer to get it and you could only cast 1per ghost
but the ups was noot needed thoo shield has always been way to expensive

is it now viable to get shields +1 before armor +3?

especially in a archon/zealot composition?

this is a protoss buff and a micro nerf. toss don't need to use micro to split before fights against terran ghosts now. at least less splitting. and faster upgrade further support a-move-deathball-style of play. i would have been fine if blizz found a good way to buff toss and/or nerf terrran but this is just stupid...

It's cracking me up reading through the early comments with all the misinformation.

So +3 weapons +3 armor upgraded Protoss save exactly 75 min/75 gas total.

This is nothing compared to the gas saved when ghosts went from 150 gas to 100 gas. You keep making ghosts all game typically, and you save 50 gas each time. Build 5 ghosts? 250 gas saved. Build 10 ghosts? Blizzard saved you 500 gas after the 1.3.3 (?) patch. That's a big deal. I still don't know why they made ghosts so cheap... was it for TvZ infestor problems or what?

So let's not forget, you only get upgrades once... you only get the savings once.

Keep in mind that the more defense you already have, the better a defense upgrade is. Going from +2 armor to +3 means you're going from taking 3 damage per shot from an unupgraded Marine to 2 damage, a 33% reduction. Going from +0 shields to +1 takes you from 6 damage per shot to 5, which is only a 17% reduction. Especially given that a lot of those shots will be reduced still further by Guardian Shield, it's probably still worth the investment to get the armor first.

Finally! We all know how much Protoss needed some buffs and EMP needed some nerfs. However, I don't find it very wise to reduce the cost of upgrades... As a Protoss player, I am pretty happy with it though :DDD

But... Then again... I believe the buffs should be different... Maybe some Stalker buff? Zealot speed increase? Charge time or cost reduced? It's not like Protoss players refuse to get upgrades but... Well, we'll see how that plays.

Actually it might be worth it more to split your army now as Protoss then it was before as with the old EMP radius you would often get your whole army blanked EMP:ed no matter how spread out it was (lategame).

Looks like a nice upgrade for Blink Stalkers vs Zerg? Or builds that use Zealot/Phoenix vs Zerg, since they can now get shield upgrades that helps both ground and air without paying 200/200?

This patch looks AWESOME to me because I think that it might make some strategies worth trying that involve going ground/air hybrid builds (I'm talking about carriers, yes.) earlier. Also the EMP nerf is clearly a buff for Protoss and I am looking forward to the metagame changing just a little awesome bit after this...

- Why dont you just Separate your units? .. separate your HT so the EMP makes less effect? do we terrans only have to separate them? isnt that unfair?

- Why dont you just make more zealots to face the terran line? ghosts are not cheap and either we cast them on zealots, or either we cast them on the other army

- Why dont you watch white-ra play? He uses Warp prism to save the energy of the HT and move them faster drops.. storm.. and pick them up again

- Why dont you use observers to see where the ghosts are, feedback em and then go back? (using warp prism)

There are plenty of options.. not only massing a huge ball and A-move..... Come on.. learn to play.. and if you know how to play and still have issues.... then improve your game

We terrans learned to manage our play against HT Storms... FF, Colossi that has never got a nerf.. and we still struggle against them... Against Dark Templars...

The change in the mineral and gas cost of ghosts was to make them easier to get while performing more gas heavy strategies (mech). Bio on the other hand isn't limited by gas as much as minerals and was largely unaffected by the change.
