Can someone please give us the exact details on the Hydralisk in HoTS? Is it still T2? Is it still Light? Is it the same cost? Does it morph into anything?

All we've heard on it is that it has a speed upgrade so far.

Also, the marine. Any chances to it's hp/range/dmg/cost/etc???

did you completely forget the replication unit? You can mimmick ANY unit, even those OP terran/zerg units. Toss now has an infestor.

Still, wouldn't hurt to have them lying around but I doubt you would ever get to use them until the late game, where you can afford spending 200/200 to copy a unit.

I guess you could turn them into a small flock of voidrays to snipe expansions and then put them back in your army as immortals.

Stuff like that might be nice to have as an option... but for 200/200 they probably won't be seen very much in pro play.

Like their ideas, I'm sure they expect some of them not to pan out. That's what betas are for.

But units that tell you what the enemy is making? How the hell is that exciting? If this ever becomes an SC2 staple it won't even be exciting for the Protoss player. Nice unit art design though.

also looking forward to zergs giving detect ability to a flock of mutas in zvp, they kill all observers in a fraction of a second and then 20 moving bane landmines kill a 200/200 ball

Excitement needs to be tempered. Knowing Blizzard, game might not hit shelves until 2 years from now and quite possible that NONE of the units showcased today are in the final product.

They like it because of the easy expansions. I hate it because getting 5 bases easily is probably a little too much.

The new nexus abilities are a million times better than chronoboost. PvZ expansions will be super-easy with the arc shield. Recall will allow your slow units to leave your base in early game. Nobody will spend energy beyond the first few on chronoboost.

It's easy to see how the new abilities will be used in PvZ and PvP, but it's less clear how good they'll be in PvT.

Ugh, don't like the new units at all based off my initial impression. Why don't they just get the real defiler and lurker back for example?

Meh, perhaps I'm just being too conservative here. I guess I will withhold any serious judgement until I've actually seen these ting in proper action.

I like that there's a defensive recall / retreat possibility for Protoss, but I feel it should COST MORE. In lategame Protoss is now able to dodge fights until they think its an engagement that favors them.

It also feels a bit like War3 , (portal back to main) ... and I don't really like that. Maybe the nexus should be destroyed after the recall, because as it is, Protoss will either recall away in the lategame or win the fight.

Gimmicky usually means a unit that doesn't do damage, or only does damage in very specific ways (e.g. the Terran Whirlwindy thing that only does damage if YOU come to IT).

Sounds like a Lurker or burrowed Banelings...
Gimmicky would be like DT rush vs Zerg, less and less common as the metagame shifts, not like the Terran thing.


Well we're talking about gimmicky units, not gimmicky strats.

Plus, I'm pretty sure the word 'gimmicky' had been used a billion times to describe both the Lurker and the Baneling before players got their hands on them and realized how awesome they are.

I seriously hope they will reconsider the scrapped units, it's so sad to see carriers gone for a glorified muta counter. And I can see a lot of these new units getting scrapped in beta. Especially the replicator, since it will be a pain to balance it I guess.

In conclusion, Zerg is happy, Terran is ok, Protoss is left to wonder what is to look forward to? They really put Protoss on the sidelines for this expo and it almost looks like they didn't try very hard on the Terran units either.
