Q: You've returned to the Round of 4 after four seasons. A: During those four seasons I kept getting knocked out in the Round of 32, so finally making it to the Round of 4 again makes me happy. I will take this chance and win the tournament. Q: In the first game, you used a 2 barracks – 1 factory build. A: The reason I did that in the first game was because I had analyzed Huk's play. He likes to mass sentries, and I thought that if he did that he would not be able to hold this build.
Q: Your opponent used void rays in the second game. A: Lately Protosses have been using a 3-gate – 1 stargate build to be able to stop 1-1-1 easily. It seems like this is why Huk used this void ray build. Q: The third game was a macro game. A: This is what I had prepared for the Best of 5, but Huk had said that he would be able to stop any 1-1-1 build, so the Protosses who practiced with me asked me to 1-1-1 him once. So in the third game I did a 1-1-1 strategy. [T/N no idea what he's talking about here, he didn't 1-1-1 in the third game, maybe the questions got mixed up] + Show Spoiler [original Korean] +
Q: What do you think of Terran being nerfed in the next patch? A: It feels like there are a lot of patches, but I don't see any significance in preparing for them before they come out. After the patch comes out, I will see how things develop and practice accordingly.
Q: Do you think the Protoss buffs in the patch will be significant? A: It is only a range increase of 1 [for the immortal], so I don't know if it will be significant. But it would be good if the patch ended up stopping 1-1-1 builds.
Q: Whenever you got through the Round of 32, you won. Do you think you can win this season? A: I feel like I can win. I feel similar to seasons where I did win.
Q: Who would you like to play in the Round of 4? A: To be honest, I would like for there to not be a Terran top four. Since there will already definitely be a Terran in the finals, it would be good if July made it to the Round of 4. It's tedious when there are only Terrans.
Q: Nestea's 3 championships seem to motivate you further. A: When I see that Nestea has won three times, I feel more ambitious. Also, Nestea snatched 1st place in the point ranking with his third championship, and I want to regain it. I need to manage my point ranking for the Blizzcon tournament at the end of the year. Q: You won two tournaments, but one of them was a smaller prize pool. Is that not a shame? [T/N GSL World Championship was ~60% the prize money of a standard Code S] A: Prize money is important, but I don't feel like winning a small prize is sad or insufficient. I would settle for just that, but if I win again I will be happy.
Q: Marineking finished in second place in Code A, your thoughts? A: Ganzi is really good, so I thought that he would win. I watched the games thinking that, but it is still a shame.
Q: Anything else you want to say? A: I want to thank NSHoseoSan, TSL JYP, commentator An Joon Yung, IMSeed, IMReady, IMYounghwa, and Ji Hwang. I hope that Yoda and Losira will have a good result in the Up and Downs, and I hope that JYP will rise to Code S.
Q: After four seasons, you have returned to the Round of 4. A: I'm really happy. It took me six months to get back into the Round of 4, but it felt even longer. During that time I realized what it's like to be truly inactive. Q: You won the first two games with aggressive management. A: Those were the strategies I prepared. I thought that if Ryung lost the first game, he would try to play safe in the second game, so I prepared accordingly and that turned out to be correct.
Q: You had a chance to win the third game, but lost. A: The third game depended on mind games, but I didn't do well. I should have not produced zerglings and pulled drones, but I made too many zerglings. My desire to end things quickly lost me the game.
Q: Thoughts on the fourth game? A: All the games turned out the way I figured they would. It's just that I fought too hastily in the fourth game. I planned to use mutalisks to hold the timing attack that would come after my roach pressure, but I used my banelings and zerglings too hastily. If I had engaged 20 seconds later I probably would have won.
Q: You prevented an all Terran Round of 4. A: This will be good for practice, but doesn't 3 Terrans being in the Round of 4 show that it is a strong race? Also, my opponent MVP is very skilled. I won't just practice hard to beat him, I must practice to the point of death in order to win.
Q: You will face MVP in the Round of 4. A: My opponent is similar, but now I don't seem to have any advantage. I hope that people will be able to get excited about all the games in the Round of 4. The matchups seem worthy of being finals. If I can beat MVP, I should be able to win the tournament. Even though MVP is usually a better player than I am, I won't just accept that. But MVP is very strong, so the games will be difficult.
Q: What do you think of the upcoming patch? A: There aren't any big changes to Zerg. But hellions need to be nerfed more. Right now, hellions are too overpowered. In order for Zerg and Protoss to survive, Terran needs to be nerfed. If Terran is weakened, the three races will be balanced equally.
Q: Fans who came to these games criticized your resource management, creep spread, and larva injects. A: I saved up minerals to get ultralisks. Even if I spread creep, Terran can scan and remove it so I felt like there was no need to do so, but now I see the need and will correct the error. I am confident in my larva injects.
Q: How do you feel this season? A: It feels like the Gillette Starleague. I felt similar facing Iloveoov in the Round of 4 to how I feel facing MVP now. If I can beat MVP, I can win the tournament.
Q: Lately you've been receiving a lot of interest from fans. A: It's really nice. I would like it if people stayed interested in me like this. In order to keep people interested, I will practice even harder.
Q: Anything else you want to say? A: I want to thank OgsTheStC, ZenexByun, ZenexHack, IMHappy, IMYoda, STVirus, STSound, and any players on other teams I can't mention in this interview for their help in practice. Also, in winning today I won a bet with Ye Joon Hee hyung. He is in America right now, but I hope he comes back to Korea quickly and keeps his promise.
July is one of the few players I've seen not max themselves out, and delay the terran while sitting around 150 supply and max on like 8 ultralisks. Then July can remax on ultra ling, which comes out faster and I must admit, is a refreshing style to see. Sort of like pooling for mutalisks on a much grander scale.
This warms my heart to see =)

LMFAO. Assuming he meant Game 2 ... 1/1/1 because his Protoss practice partners wanted to see how Huk would hold it? That's cruel, man. What happened to the Brotoss lovin'?
Also, July with the Eye of the Tiger. Good luck to him.

Wow I am freaking hyped for this semi. Hopefully we get some epic games and July practices teh way he says he is, because I feel MVP is gonna 3-0 easily if July is off his game.

not surprised at all. Watching Huk streams and recent tourneys also led me to believe he doesn't do anything but mass sentries and play blind

July is a true champion. Many players in Code S are just content to hang around, but July sees any season where he's not in the finals as a failure. You could tell since the group selections this season that he has the eye of the tiger again after going through a bit of a slump. Good luck to him! <3
I wonder why Julyzerg says that the changes to zerg aren't big. -15 seconds build time on ultralisks would have made the games way easier for him. If i remember (and analyse correctly) he stayed around 150 supply in most of the games and tried to delay the terran push as much as possible to get ultras out. 15 seconds less of having to stall and stall should be a big help to his build, shouldnt it?^^

What a boss nerd.
Seriously, this is a refreshing attitude compared to what I hear from a lot of other progamers.

Reading this put a banana grin on my face. I love July :D
I honestly feel that the winner of the Mvp vs. July game is going to take the tournament. Polt and TOP are both very strong players, but I don't think either of them can take a best of 7 off of either Mvp or July.
Also, if the Mvp vs. July match can be anywhere as sick as the July vs. oov match, it will have made my purchase of the season ticket all the more worth it .

dude if July beat MVP ( whose strongest match up for a very long item has been TvZ) that would be insane- but sadly I see MVP rolling him and then winning the tournament in 4:0 Code S fashion.
MVP countering Huk like a Boss. That is why Koreans don't release replays or play seriously on ladder. Does anyone know how Nestea's ZvZ is unbeatable? No, because all we have are vods.
A: I saved up minerals to get ultralisks. Even if I spread creep, Terran can scan and remove it so I felt like there was no need to do so, but now I see the need and will correct the error. I am confident in my larva injects
is this true
You can scan to reveal creep tumors which generate creep in an area at the opportunity cost of ~270 minerals per scan.

I'm talking about him actually starting creep spread. I'm no noob :<

I noticed this at MLG too. It's starting to show it's weaknesses, like when Coca just brought a Queen with his lings when Huk pushed out "A ha! I can throw darts over the FF at you!"

I found it funny how all the other protoss were:
¨Ahh so Huk has a counter to 1-1-1, please MVP do it we need to see it¨
*Huk dies*
I've noticed Protoss' like to pick on each other, like when Trickster made it his life goal for Rainbow to put Genius in his place...
Big fan of HuK but I'm kinda glad IMMvp rolled him with a 1/1/1 build on game 2. Having HuK claim he could beat 1/1/1 and then having him owned lets Blizzard know it really does need some fixes.

Also who would Ye Joon Hee be? I googled the name but got nothing.
Sorry, I've got no idea . His name turns up a few results if you google it in Korean but nothing that says who he is. He isn't a notable progamer though as far as I know.

Agreed. Huk always masses sentries. He likes to make 11 sentries and move out on the map with 2 zealots accompanying them. Then when caught by lings he either tries to ff all his sentries in a box to protect from lings or the lings get the surround and he loses 11 sentries and in essence the game later on as he'll never gg right after losing those sentries, but he never wins from that point.
I'm surprised July didn't mention the Ultralisk build time change. That would've made games 2 and 5 a bit easier for him.
Even though I think MVP will most likely win easily, and then go on to beat Top or Polt in standard one sided GSL fashion, July's style of play is much different from Nestea's. He could potentially pull an upset with clever, risky strategies.

This is speed dieting, people. Practise as if your life is on the line
JULY FIGHTING. If he manages to beat MVP, which he will(>_> biased July fan), he will win this GSL. You can never underestimate/count out Nada, July,or Boxer.

I think the stronger statement is that [arguably] the best Terran in the world decided to do it even though he is 100% confident he can win a macro game. Without a doubt it's currently overpowered, Protoss may eventually figure something out, but I honestly don't think so.
I'm very much looking forward to MVP vs July. MVP's scouting & gamesense better be spot on that day if he doesn't want to be baneling busted 3 times into gg.

:O! Sick hype, come on July you can do it!
I am actually rewatching those games right now. I'm so hyped

He has the balls to be straight and say what he thinks. He is far from being alone and telling he thinks hellions are a bad unit in SC2 atm might trigger good things from Blizz ! Maybe a different mech harass unit in HotS :D
I'm glad MVP used 1/1/1 against Huk, so he can keep his mouth shut next time. Bragging never helps.
Edit: I'm also glad MVP prepared for HuK and analysed him. If the best terran does special preparation against a foreigner, it means a lot imho. /Protoss player there
I won't just practice hard to beat him, I must practice to the point of death in order to win.
I'm picturing the day of the July vs. MVP match. July walks into the room. He looks completely emaciated and haggard. Clothes in tatters. Enters the booth. Proceeds to play the most insane Bo5 SC2 has ever witnessed, barely winning 3-2 in 5 straight hour-long games. The crowd cheers. MVP emerges from his booth, exhausted, disappointment written all over his face. Then, the studio gradually silent as moments pass: There is no movement in July's booth. A concerned mob of people run over, throwing open the door. There lies July, no energy left, fallen out of his chair. Staring blankly at the ceiling, his breathing grows ragged. As gaming witnesses the final moments of one of its legends, July laboriously utters his last words:
Great interviews! Thanks for sharing them. July vs MVP will be very interesting, and I'm not sure who I want to win. Really I just don't want TOP to win. MVP winning a 3rd time, Polt winning a second time, or July taking a championship all sound very exciting to me.

Alternate ending: July doesn't die, but falls into a coma that he eventually wakes up from with his friends, family, and team gathered around his bed. He proceeds to continue his career in progaming and after many, many years, finally passes away at a ripe old age having lived a full and happy life.

Sauron Zerg, nightmare mode, engaged. If he can beat MVP, I don't think TOP nor Polt can take July. July is someone you just cannot prepare for. Yeah he makes some mistakes, but once you have that weakness, your fucked.
I'm glad to see July is putting up some good results, but poor HuK. The lovable Canadian/American had a great run for being the only foreigner (please correct me if I'm wrong) in Code S though.
July has a better chance than any other zerg at this point to beat Mvp(as if that is saying much when he has already slaughtered all the best zvters) because of his unique style, and the fact that Mvp likes to take huge risks to get economic edges, like a super fast 3rd, and July loves to punish that sort of play.

You can't play July, you can only play the game. You don't know when he will bust you with units or when he will macro like a beast. Also July has fantastic macro...still incredibly hard for any zerg to beat Mvp or even take a game off him.
Mvp has some interesting practice partners. Love that he practices with JYP, I really see potential in that guy. And I too hope that JYP makes it to Code S.
Thanks for the interview/translation, was a good read.
I want July to win this Code S. He's always been the master of mind games (see his last OSL win), and if he irons out those kinks in his play, I think he can do it.

That's a programer for me. What a baller.
A programmer? xD Pro-gamer?
Remember Xeph's Progamer stream a while back? Yeah, it was basically the only way for us to see koreans play outside of GSL.
Except when I saw it featured I misread it as "Xeph's Programmer stream"
haha july finally gets convinced that creep spread is important! and fans shouldn't criticize july's resource management lol. his foolishness is way better than their smartest level.
I was like "Code S interviews?? When did they get this far where have I been?"
Then I realized you bumped the thread that is 25 days old to ask a question about a guy he obviously trained with or got some help from. You don't think Code S players train/work with/talk to Code B players?
Practicing "to the point of death" sounds funny unless you actually have tried to go for long periods of extended practice. Suffice to say that what he said wasn't much of an exaggeration. Regrettably, it wasn't enough to beat the terran titan.

MVP is a pretty manner guy. The way he talks about the other players and races is always respectful, even when their interests aren't necessarily the same as his. He's particularly impressed me with the way he's handled the current TvP climate. Plus, wishing Code-S on JYP is a nice touch.
Also is San back in NSH? I thought he left?
