Also, what's wrong with Backwater? I think it's a fairly decent map.

It's not like tournaments will stop using it, and they even said themselves that they could reintroduce it later on. I'm excited though, two of my down-voted maps are removed now, so I have some freedom to get rid of other crappy maps. I don't know anything about the new 1v1 maps, gotta go look up info on them. Well, first of all ladder tries to pair players of equal skill against each other. If you are on a losing or winning streak, you will get matched against "better" players, but Blizz has the data to remove this "skill difference" from the data and get statistics for equal players. And yeah, you are right. let us look at pro tournaments: According to the GSL finals contestors I really believe that Zerg needs a huge nerf or special zerg maps for PvZ and TvZ with spawning locations being as far away as they were on Steppes of War. Otherwise Zerg is just too strong. I'd agree on using tournament and ladder data jointly, but only looking at tournaments is dangerous, since one outstanding player might cause several people to believe something is imbalanced.

My issues with tal'darim and shakuras tho is the free expos PvZ, unlike other maps. The rocks on the third for tal'darim should seriously be removed - otherwise Z can't grab their third when P FE's I doubt that the rocks on tal'darim will be removed considering according to blizzard its already quite a zerg favored map (win rate statistics wise) - if the rocks were gone, it would only make it worse. I personally think Blizzard knows zerg macro is a bit too strong if there are no rocks preventing an instant double expo (especially if its an easy area to defend); otherwise there would be many games like recent GSL ZvP terminus games where the double expanding zerg just gets to 180+ way too quickly and crushes the Protoss without breaking a sweat (such as the Min V Genius game and a few others).

Sure, Scrap and Metalopolis might be some of the better maps Blizzard has come up with but they're 18 months old... new maps will definitely keep the game more dynamic. Too bad they didn't add one or two more GSL maps but I guess it was to be expected. Hopefully the new maps will surprise and aren't all completely horrible. Also, what's wrong with Backwater? I think it's a fairly decent map. Many people hated Scrap, so I don't know why you're treating it like everyone loved it, lol.

Metalopolis isn't a zerg favored map at the highest level so Blizzard's argument about that was plain wrong. My post detailed why their 'high level' ladder stats are irrelevant compared to TLPD. If zerg is OP or not overall is completely irrelevant. Even if zerg is OP, it only further proves that Metalopolis is indeed not zerg favored.

Metalopolis is ancient and a huge portion of the games on it were played at a time that is completely irrelevant at this point. If you want accurate stats you need to parse only the more recent data. At that point I'm not sure if the sample size is really large enough to be entirely convincing one way or another.

As for most of the rest, it's good riddance, pending what comes next, of course. I hope Metalopolis returns in the future though, it is pretty fun and familiar, but of course without close spawns, which make for games more Steppes of War than Steppes of War itself.

It simply means the map is balanced for tournament use. Nobody has the statistics for the imbalances on ladder except Blizzard, so we can either take their word for it and accept it, or create conspiracy theories. Metalopolis is balanced in tournament play. Blizzard states that metalopolis is not balanced for ladder play and removes it. That's all we can conclude from this
